What a fantastic first ever win last week and now a first ever series win for Ireland in New Zealand. Absolutely superb performance. New Zealand have a lot to think about.

I was wondering why Lancs didn’t declare at tea, or just later. When I thought about it though, that would have meant giving Somerset around 8 hrs to bat where they could have put Lancs in real trouble. By declaring overnight they’ve taken defeat out of the equation. Batting longer yesterday allowed Lancs to get max batting points - plus is it 8 points now for the draw? Somerset 48/3 I think they probably went about it the right way.

Good day out at Southport today. Keaton Jennings 318 was the fourth highest by any Lancashire batter in history and the highest by any Lancashire batter since 1990. Lancs close of play score was a tremendous 624/9 Theres an outside chance of a Lancs win but this pitch is an absolute featherbed. If Lancs want to win the league they won’t want many more of these.

Stunning technology. It’s difficult to know what to say about these things. The scale of all this is just simply beyond anyones comprehension. I’ve also heard people say these photos look no different from many Galatial photos seen over previous years - which to most people won’t. what staggers me are the people who just aren’t interested in these things - beyond a quick glance. I just don’t understand that. How can anyone not just stand in awe? We earthlings in the main, can only look and wonder. The chances or probabilities are that we on earth are the only intelligent beings in the entire universe. In one way that belittles our own lives, yet on the other it makes us all so very special. I don’t disagree with any of that Glen - but want to add there’s still every opportunity to get out of this league with the right owners, the right manager and the right blend. You don’t have to be the richest club. look at Blackpool, Bolton, Burnley and Wigan just for starters, they all did it. Don’t let the Tony Mowbrays of this world talk us into believing there’s nothing that can be done.

I said “IMO, that team wouldn’t win many games in a season and would be in big danger of relegation.”. I didn’t say it was a foregone conclusion. yes, there will be signings but we aren’t just supplementing a decent squad as in some other seasons. We are needing experienced, quality players just to get us competitive and I’m worried whether we can get them.

Please don’t trivialise other opinions that the current squad is simply not good enough. I didn’t say relegation was a foregone conclusion.

It’s not about other squads, it’s about ours.

Right now, with our current squad I reckon we’re on course for last place in the league. I don’t remember thinking that before. Lots to do.

This has been an incredible collapse by Lancs. They have just lost 8 wickets for 43 runs after Salt and Buttler gave us a good start.

Even with the “euphoria” (steady on) of the JDT signing and everything else, why do I still live in dread of who we actually sign? The scars run deep.

I started watching rovers in 61 or 62. I don’t ever remember selling our best players and improving.

He didn’t build a squad because it’s not possible outside the PL. Any decent players will be off whenever they get a sniff of the PL. Thats what annoyed me when Mowbray used to say he had a five year plan. Some fans believe it’s the way to go as well but it’s impossible. A manager at Rovers has to go with whatever he has at any point in time. There’s just as much likelihood of next season’s squad being worse than this years, as there is of it being better. Rovers manager has to treat the squad at his disposal as the best squad he’s going to get. It’s too easy to have plans lasting years. Only one person benefits from that.

In Alicante at the moment and haven’t read the thread. First impressions of the appointments are “wow, what a change”! From an expected new but not very different man at the helm telling us the same job saving “facts of life” of how we can’t expect anything much better than what we have now, to a manager who openly tells us his aims are for the Premier League. How nice and uplifting is that? Not only that but he also wants a team that plays on the front foot, a pressing, possession based game. Brilliant. There’s more as well. He’s bringing an assistant manager and a “performance director”. That sounds to me like a team that has ambition. On paper at least that’s as much as I could have hoped for. Of course none of that means anything. They will all be judged solely on what the fans see on the pitch. He has a big task now, at this very moment to replace the players that have left - and at the end of all this he will only be as good as the players he brings in. He and his team have got a harder task than most managers in that his knowledge of the standard required in the Championsh and the qualities of any potential British players will be limited.
