I’m afraid we fell back to some of our old ways tonight. far too slow out of the blocks, doing nothing for 45 mins. Fell behind and it showed this team isn’t suited to coming from behind. After a 2nd half revival the task got too much and we were very lucky only conceding two. The next few weeks are going to be even harder for a variety of reasons. Hopefully we will come again but tonight is a big wake up to what’s in front of us.

Not often I call out players for being lazy, but this is lazy football. They’ve all got to up their work rate. JRC and Gallagher standing out for the wrong reasons.
-
That was so poor. Do they know 2nd place is up for grabs? Can we not cope with it? Big questions.
-
Big game this. It will go some way to showing whether we can stay the pace.

Oh aye Tyrone. Three bat handles to decide if you were out or not. Quite often shout that out now when there’s an appeal on TV. Nobody knows what I’m talking about.

I would love to see footage of our 8-2 away win at Wham in 63. I know there was some because I remember the goals being shown on BBC news.

Who’s going to be brave enough to deny the much needed cash earned by the counties for the crowd attracting short game, in order to prioritise county cricket played in empty grounds in peak season? Hows that going to happen?
-
I can’t speak for Jim, but for me nationality doesn’t matter as long as they are the best. Explain to us why it does matter that they’re British - even if they are inferior coaches?

Saw a lot of it. Rovers weren’t at their best. We didn’t have enough quality possession at any point. Our passing through the side was not good enough. As a result we created very little. I think that fair. On the upside defensively we were very good. I’ve never been a fan of three centre halves, but it’s working well for us. With the two full backs it’s making a solid back line. Teams are struggling to get behind us or through us. Teams end up putting crosses in from deeper areas and those three lads in the middle just win everything in the air. With our ability to break quickly it’s quite a potent combination. Not brilliant football but effective football. A huge improvement on what we’ve seen for years now. -
We are just so far behind Australia on every front. So much for the ECB to think about on that. Do we have the right person in place to really get to grips and have the absolute determination to make the decisions that are going to take England to the top. Seems to me major surgery is needed.

It’s got everything to do with this thread Chaddy. You don’t even have to have played cricket, never mind been captain of your country to have an opinion of a player. I could, but won’t trawl back and get many very critical opinions from ex pros of Crawleys technique. I “think” only last week the ex England opening batsman mentioned Crawleys technique when he was talking about the England sides performances in the Ashes. I posted the link on here.

There were plenty of people inside football who backed Steve Kean.

Gallagher contract extension is easier to take when the teams doing well. Would it be so popular if we were struggling near the bottom and we were desperate for fire power? -
I got a ULCI in tech drawing. 🙂

I suspect you’ve been watching Atherton Nasser Keys discussing English cricket on sky? Anyway, you mention Michael Atherton. He IS a very intelligent man. Here’s a times column he’s written in the Times. It’s very interesting if you’re a cricket fan. Like you say, the ECB should use him in some capacity. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/f204e814-6969-11ec-98df-0bb0132add1b?shareToken=d84504dfc1d23d2eb6e3f1ff36b0f0f1#

Anyone mentioned the most important point about rovers form? 17 points ahead of North End 👍👏👌
-
Because if there’s a flaw in your technique, there’s a flaw. You won’t get away with it at the top level. The opposition will expose it.
-
Then maybe the coaching is also big problem and has been for a long time - as in that link I posted?
-
On top of that, here’s an excellent, thought provoking article that puts the blame primarily on coaches. https://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/120396/englands-test-batting-at-rock-bottom-with-deep-rooted-issues

Cricket is doing what football has been doing since the emergence of Sky, it’s following the money. There’s far more money in the one day games and that’s the big draw. Who is going to be brave enough and take the game against that? I fear, nobody. The counties and test cricket will not vote to deny themselves those one day receipts.
-
So, we set the replay date and Hull will have a fully fit squad, while rovers are ravaged by Covid but still above the required minimum numbers to force the game to be played. Whats the chances of that?
-
Hull offer an apology. Thats nowhere near enough. Those travelling fans deserve proper compensation at the very least.
