Brentford (h) - the Mowbray love in!
Bigdoggsteel replied to MCMC1875's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Walton saved a penalty against Hull earlier in the season. His handling from crosses is far better. My heart was in my mouth when Raya played. A lot of rose tinted hindsight with Raya. Great shot stopper, but regularly made blunders. -

Yet we will only be 3 points behind them if we win. I think the piece on Raya is very "grass is greener". Look back through match threads from last season and you will see plenty about him being responsible for us conceding goals. -

Because Johnson has worked extensively with the young players at the club. Ainsworth has been at Wycombe for a long time. A real luxury in management these days. He got promoted from League 2. If he gets them promoted again this season, that would be impressive. Long way to go though. -

I meant between him and Ainsworth -
We couldn't, but a club like Brentford could

Indeed,same thing.

You are grasping at straws with Smith and Wilder being young, but I do take the point. What I would do for an Eddie Howe style manager here now. Farke, Wagner the same. We deserve the excitement -
I am now firmly in the camp that Mowbray can't be trusted with a budget, unfortunately. So selling Dack to build a team, would probably end badly.

I agree it looks as if he has to go alright, but its not true that only younger managers get promoted, not true at all. Sure Warnock got promoted the season before last! Benitez... Bielsa doing well. It's not an age thing, it's an ability thing. -

How would appointing Ainsworth lead to anything but mid-table mediocrity? I don't get why some are fawning over him. If we are going for a younger manager, it has to be Johnson. -
Barnsley (h) - the Cauldron Of Hate part 2?
Bigdoggsteel replied to MCMC1875's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Well it would be the only thing that matters if we were always able to drag out wins even when playing badly, which we aren't. We can barely drag them out when playing well! -
Barnsley (h) - the Cauldron Of Hate part 2?

The problem is we will probably play well next game and lose. We cant seem to do anything in a straight forward way. Lack of cohesion. Always find a way to shoot ourselves in the foot. Mowbrays time is up,but I cant help but feel the end is going to drag. -
I think Travis himself would find that disrespectful. He has so much to his game, expecting him to keep the ball better is only wanting him to push on. I think he has tried to recruit the way he wants it in his head, its just not working. He seems muddled,no doubt. Which knows what's going on behind the scenes. We certainly need to go back to basics though it seems
-
I dint think that is fair. I would say he is positive about Travis overall. A little bit critical about giving the ball away, but I think that is fair. On Holtby the example was around delivering goals or assists compared to Rothwell. I would say it was positive about Holtby. I would be more annoyed that he questioned Rothwell. At the end of the day Mowbray has managed him badly. He was flying at the end of last season. He was electric. Mowbray killed that from what I have seen ,allowing for the fact we dont see him training. I thought Mowbrays interview was very honest. He has his faults for sure. Going off that interview he knows he is vulnerable I really hope he can turn it around. Them sacking him is out of our control. I cant go though another Kean saga. It would be an awful way to end it.
-
I would go for Bennett. Marshall would be better farther forward. Ideally Nyambe over both. Ya,that guy. Do you not remember him playing for us? Are you his agent? I guessed his agent must have been a very busy man.

Indeed and good suggestions. I would have to agree with Emnes and Joao being better options. Not sure about Raya though, a lot of rose tinted hindsight with him I feel. Walton has had a few changers, but he has also done well at times, especially from crosses. I remember the one at Preston too Raya is a great shot stopper, but has his flaws. I dont think there is much between him and Walton. I like Marshall. Good footballer, but struggles with consistency and settling in one place it seems. Steele? Man, are you ok? Think you should sit this next one out!

Why I oughtta But ya, it's not looking good at all. In some ways I wish it was just over now and we were put out of our misery. It's the hope that kills ya. It does tie Mick up until next April though, but I am sure he will have plenty of offers then. Not sure him and Keane will be linking up as a team anytime soon though!

Indeed, but how many of Coyles team(who left) would even make our match day squad now?
-
The main difference between Coyles team and this one is that back then we had a squad that was patched together by loans, frees and lads out of contract at the end of the season. Also, has anyone who left at the end of that season played at a higher level than league 1? I don't think so. We have a much better squad now, vastly better. It's just unfortunate the manager can't get the best out of them. Look at it this way, you put Mick McCarthy in charge of that Coyle team or this team and I bet you this squad does a lot better.

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/quicktest/18053918.mowbray-next-gladwin-return-training/ “I’d seen him playing in League One for Swindon and he was very good, too good for that level. Too big, too strong, too powerful, scoring goals. 8 goals in 47 games in League 1 for Swindon and Mowbray makes out he was one of the best players ever at that level. He is just basing his opinion on 1 game against Coventry, isn't he?

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. He won't get sacked if we lose. This will drag I feel, so hopefully he starts winning. If a loss guaranteed him leaving, I would consider it, but the thing is, you just don't know who would replace him..... -
If we get 9 points it will be, but I wouldn't put the house on it!
