  1. The thing that upsets me is, I don’t think we did (and just think how brilliant he was). Come ages 26/27/28 he’d have been possibly keeping Rooney from being an England regular for a bit.
  2. It comes to something when the genuinely awful idea of the 24/7 title is one of the only things I actually enjoy (R Truth is doing well with it imo, in the spirit of Crash Holly), the other thing being Firefly Funhouse. The stupid wildcard idea has killed both shows. The same 10 people dominating 5 hours per week is booooriiiiiing.
  3. Doesn’t get more European than... err... Blackpool...
  4. You’ve been watching George Carlin haven’t you? ’Place the turkey in a pre-heated oven... that’s stupid, there are only two states an oven can exist in. Heated or unheated!’ ’This programme was pre-recorded... well of course it was! When else are you gunna record it? Afterwards?!’
  5. The question you need to ask is whether any of the players we had under Hughes would’ve started every game in a top 6 side? I’d say Friedel, Bellamy. Nelsen at a push. Therefore, that team was far more than the sum of its parts and worked bloody hard.
  6. Obviously I’m a touch younger than you guys. My WWE love is from 2000 onwards, and I always used to put stock in what made me laugh: 1. Rock 2. Jericho 3. Stone Cold Knowing what I know now in terms of the history of wrestling, and watching old episodes of Raw in full, and appreciating just how much goes into a wrestler: 1. Foley 2. Jericho 3. Bryan I think the ability to reinvent your character is so underrated in wrestling. It’s like ‘getting over’ several times!
  7. Same way many failed MMA fighters do well in wrestling, by being great characters. In fairness, most wrestling fans I know would absolutely pop for Punk and not particularly care about his UFC record. Most don’t seem to care about Brock’s record, or Swagger’s, or Barrett’s, or Del Rio’s either.
  8. Technically the ratio of blue to white would be 1:1, or half and half But yes, quarters.
  9. I just hope to God that the 4 red stars (with six points) for AEW All Out really are a reference to CM Punk. AEW currently boasts the world’s best wrestler (Omega), the world’s best tag team (Young Bucks), the world’s best-known innovative character wrestler (Jericho), the hottest thing in wrestling (Moxley), and could well be welcoming one of this centuries most natural promos (Punk). WWE’s seeming lack of reaction is a bit disturbing. The stupid wildcard rule has just pushed so many wonderful talents off the card entirely this week: Bryan, Rusev, Nakamura, Murphy. Yet I still watch...
  10. Calling it now: Brock shouting ‘Friday’, isn’t a reference to cashing in at Super Showdown. It’s a reference to cashing in at the first Friday Night Smackdown on Fox in a few months time. It’d be the most WWE thing ever.
  11. Rumour just in that the home kit will be half blue, half white.
  12. Perhaps in that navy design the logo should be a deep red. This kind of colour? https://images.app.goo.gl/mtB7iewoeyz3pmXk8
  13. Hogan’s finisher made no sense to me. Arms like pythons, surely a choke hold would’ve suited him better, or an elbow drop? The best finisher ever is the Stone Cold Stunner. Easily. The guy kick provides the cue for fan and wrestler, easy to pull off (sit down) and easy to sell (fall back) without actually hurting anyone. My favourite ‘stunnee’ was Scott Hall in the brief, awful WWE NWO run. Rock oversold it far too much. Modern finishers, I struggle with. I like Moxley’s (so glad to call him that again) Dirty Deeds, as it harks back to Jake The Snake’s DDT rather than just being your usual WWE watered down one.
  14. Graham, Bennett, and Evans have all been involved in promotions to the PL.
  15. Not only is it a weak-looking finish, it’s bloody dangerous when it goes wrong! I don’t think it’s actually killed anyone who forgot to tuck their chin yet, but it’s broken many necks!
  16. Plain white Bet10 logo and I’ll adore it
  17. It’s a way to walk where you favour one leg more than the other. But that’s not important right now...
  18. I liked that it gave almost everyone in it a solid ‘highlight’ of some sort, but that also played into it’s downfall. A good way to introduce most of a brand new undercard for most though. DoN itself was frenetic, and fast-paced, with sheer variety of match type. To get a 5-star match out of Cody vs Dustin (Goldust) just shows you how badly WWE dropped the ball 3 years ago with those two. Young Bucks vs Lucha Bros was a great tag match, Omega v Jericho was great. Moxley’s debut was perfect. I think they will aim to be a show that offers ‘something’ for every wrestling taste, whereas WWE do that by splitting levels. Main roster offers one thing, NXT another, 205 another. I reckon I can live happily with the cast of AEW and an hour of NXT.
  19. Is this the point where I slit my wrists? Or is it the point where I think ‘That would quite literally have been an unreal signing, who shall we try for next’?
  20. I just hope this is one signing that we may come to know as a backup signing, after signing another 3-4 quality first-trainers. It seems Downing no long plays wide, but in a more central playmaking role. I sort of wonder if he’s coming in as backup, and as a better quality mentor than Conway to our wingers/wide midfielders? I’m not against replacing Conway with Downing, but I hope it’s not with a view to starting often (unless he turns out to be good enough).
  21. 98k buys is an amazing first effort! Looking at up to £3.9m on the first go (although that assumes all American buys, which were £40 rather than our £15).
  22. ‘Paradigm shift’, you’ve been watching Jon Moxley this week haven’t you?
  23. I do think AEW will really threaten WWE’s U.K. market share come autumn. Better quality wrestling on free TV, or paying for another subscription to watch the same thing you watched for the last 20 years?
  24. I think they’re confirmed as TV-14, simply so they have the freedom to go ahead and make their product look more real. I think they’ll let bits of swearing and violence occur in TV, but only when it makes an impact for the story (like Dustin, although that was a Guerrero-style botched bleed, surely? Great visual though and perfect for the story).
