This is my second attempt to respond to @Sparks Roverso will try to be more “partisan”. When you consider other things said and argued over recent years - the quite un fathomable love in for Ben Whiteman and the “I’ve got 15 year olds better than” *insert academy player name*… Slagging Dolan and Buckley, only praising two that could leave… I just don’t agree with those opinions. Compared to my own thoughts, utterly night and day. -
Attendances: A cause for concern

Telling people to do something they already know they have to do, most of us have done for 18 months, with an air of superiority? Speaking down to people as if their own concerns about safety aren’t valid? Definition of patronising Chaddy. You might not like that opinion, but you aren’t going to alter it. -

Exactly the type of preachy nonsense I’m talking about. Its as if you think you’re talking to someone who has no basic knowledge of viruses? I am aware / understand the intended message of “we have to live..” etc. I understand that people died because of it. Thats simply patronising. The sheer amount of mistakes made by those elected to take decisions to avoid deaths, is precisely why I have an issue listening to the slogans devised by the same idiots. Especially when it’s used to play down people’s fears and concerns. Let people decide if it’s safe for them. -

Banging head on brick wall…! You do you, I choose for me. Preaching, patronising is “what was the point in vaccinated if we’re having repeated lockdowns” etc I personally will be going if the match is on… But the whole point I am making is I won’t judge, or tell, or advise, or suggest to anyone here or anywhere what they should do or think. That’s why I hate that stupid slogan “we have to live with the virus”… I’m sure anyone who’s lost one of the 125,000+ would’ve loved them to live through it. Needless, preachy bollox -

No, that figure is from the podcast with Herbie and Glenn entwistle from 2017-21 I imagine during the covid closures, it was probably way higher for those short times, however the main income is ST and TV and that wasn’t impacted in the first season of closures (back of 19/20), but has been impacted since (2500 in 20/21) and this year (2500 reduced tickets) with people out of the habit or switched off a mid table finish. I don’t think we “can’t afford to renew”.. I think it’s more the plans have been altered partially due to low turnover anyway (ffp) and covid uncertainty. Glenn Entwistle (I think) made a good point that renewing someone like Rothwell above the top wage earner, means you’re renewing the rest of team within 12 months. Same with Armstrong. I believe there was an upgrade, probably one to make him our top earner - but I bet that wasn’t even half his signing on fee + wages over 3 years at any premier league or parachute club. The video also mentioned Brentford as a perfect example of team with similar turnover in terms of tickets, but far, far, less overheads with academy / facilities. A team promoted, as best example as we can use that it is possible to compete with parachute payments. They did it with savvy transfer business, and selling players on for huge profits. I guess this is our best chance to move forward, and I am unsettled about the proposition of losing these players, namely our captain, for nothing. Finally, I agree, many teams in this league will be well above 100% on wages - the difference is what the 100% figure is, for example when Kean was manager first season in the championship, we had 16m upfront to play with before even took turnover into account. That’s the biggest mistake in the Rao’s ownership, and one we’re still “paying” for. -

Why is it always so black and white in Chaddy world? You find me a post where someone saying “anyone who disagrees in shutting all football is dangerous?” That slogan is patronising, political point scoring and basically annoying AF -

It’s a slogan used to dismiss anyone with individual concerns. Its preaching to anyone who may not be willing to take the same risks. -

I don’t think that’s the issue. I think people can make their mind up. My problem with this thread is the constant “Johnson” quotes being treaded out “we have to live with the virus”…. Tell that to the family, friends and colleagues of 125000+ -

@JHRover the nixon link is/was Watt I think. The Benson one was LT. Both ultimately tabloid links, not worth taking seriously. I would be gutted too, losing the likes of Lenihan, Nyambe and Rothwell for nothing. Coincidentally- the best way to convince them to stay if we can’t offer the wages they’re after= promotion. -

Money doesn’t disappear It gets spent on wages. For every £1 the club earns in revenue, such as tickets, tv deal etc; It spends nearly £2 on wages. Why is this so hard to understand? -

1. You’ve never taken Nixon or tabloid links seriously. Why start now? 2. You know about FFP but you’ll ignore it despite countless examples and discussions on our finance. 3. You know, if Diaz had signed a new deal twelve months ago you’d say the same about that (what you said about SG deal) 4. I know you’re articulate and clever enough to understand it’s easy to extend a contract on wage they’re already happy with, than agree a new one with a boost. 5. We know that you’ve got lofty expectations, but there is absolutely loads to be excited about when you simply consider the last 3 months. Squad, players developing, tactics working, goals, points, and momentum. Merry Christmas JHR -
Neither of those are on last years accounts so should be after April 2022

It all comes down to Ultimate team on fifa - Burger King on here shirt instantly makes them a choice for that generation. Absolutely agree about the potential for something similar to this.
-
It’s called wages. The average since 2010 at this club seems to be spending £2 on wagers for every £1 that comes into the coffers.

You’ve no clue how it would turn out, only an opinion - which can only be subjective. Plenty of players have come from those leagues and worked well in England. I don’t know enough about (or care enough) about Benson - if he comes, he gets a fair crack of the whip like everyone else. If he’s crap, he won’t play, if he’s “smoking”, it’ll be another bargain addition to the squad. Goodwillie was a multimillion pound signing on big wages. Only involved due to agents being the same as those advising the club. To compare a potential signing in the present, with a past criminal / fraudulent deal, orchestrated under complete different regimes…. Says 3 things; 1. No memory 2. No understanding of what went on back then 3. No ability to view a scenario without having to find something you can base previous understanding on. So yea, basically - just stereotyping an entire country’s league and anyone of their nationality as “shit” because we signed DG and their league standard isn’t as good… still think it’s pitiful, but do carry on trying to convince me I am wrong. -

We’ve had the same discussion about many players in the past. Signing someone who has scored plenty of recent championship level goals is also going to cost an absolute bomb. We’re not in that market, and only the “stupid” would suggest we should be. To tangent this even further - brexit is also a nightmare for buying European players now. I’m not sure of the exact rules but I don’t see many more TKs down the pipeline. -
Individual nuances or phrases for this only ever get repeated if they’ve been successful. Where does low block come from? The way it’s described here reminds me of watching football Italia in the 90s, when they’d call it a Catenacio
-
Was just a general comment not aimed at you. I actually started my post this morning saying it’s refreshing to read discussion without the “SWAG” stuff or “sweeping generalisations” and here I am making my own.. In terms of your point here - totally agree. I’m now 30 years into my Football addiction and it started in the Riverside
-
Perhaps - I only briefly dip into this discussion. The game has moved on entirely though - was a good example on Matt Mills Undr the cosh, where he’s talking about coaches don’t want opinions from players anymore or captains digging team mates out for mistakes. To me this is why coaches need to have more control and specific guidance / instructions about their tactics. Im not talking about swapping names (for Example a False nine is a fucking number 10!!!) and acronyms, I’m talking about making a lot more in depth than the Clough 442 + “stop Stan Bowles”

My turn for a sweeping statement; the parents today can’t be arsed and would rather put YouTube on a tablet…! 😂

if I had a sweeping generalisation called stupid too - I’d take it on the chin… or just keep it in my head? Faroe Islands compared to Scotland… bit of a misnomer but it just proves why stereotyping is nonsense. There’s plenty of talent in Great Britain who play outside their home nation. Also the way the UK nations are linked - you do realise that Hedges came through an academy in the English leagues at a team based in wales? Their name, nationality, cost, wages - all relatively unimportant. It’s how they play. Twas ever thus -
I think he was referring to players being more aware and understanding of the individual expectations of their role. Not simply getting top grades in their GCSE’s For instance, when I played football - my role was the person who keeps the ball out of the net and boots it to the strikers head from the ground or out my hands. If id played for the same u10-u16 team now, (over in ossy, great to see them still going, and I know the manager / coach, they even have a GK coach in once a month now) I would’ve been taught slow and quick transition, organising defences on corners and free kicks, playing out from the back and positions out the box. In 1996, If the same manager had seen me stood ten yards outside my box like Tommy K - would’ve been hammered from the touch line 😂 The game has changed.

Again - it’s such a stupid idea to completely write off a nation because of your view of its level of quality. You’re free to that opinion, and I’m free to point out how bloody stupid it is. -

Such a stupid response. Remember when we just missed out on Mcginn from Hibernian? Well, considering the “state of the league”, he helped fire villa up and now will end up going to United for 50m+
