The fact that Warnock is still managing and getting results 40 years after starting in management just shows that he is capable of adapting and moving on. In fact since Mowbray got his sole promotion from this division Warnock has achieved a further 2 promotions from it.
-
Chris Hughton has a better record than Tony Mowbray in the Championship where despite managing for a much shorter time in the division he has double the number of promotions and top 6 finishes. Hughton has also had far more success in the top flight where Mowbray had one season played very open football and finished rock bottom. Those are the facts, I'm not really sure how anyone could spin them to prove that Mowbray is a better manager.
-
Would that not also apply to Mowbray? The only times he has achieved top 6 finishes was when he managed a very good West Brom side. Hughton took over Brighton when they were 21st in the league.
-
Since Mowbray last got promoted from this division, managers such as Alex Neill, Phil Brown, Owen Coyle, Alex McLeish, Paul Lambert, Nigel Atkins, Brian McDermott, Malky Mackay, and Ian Holloway (X2) have all achieved promotion from the Championship. The game has moved on from 13 years ago when Mowbray got his sole promotion from this division, since then he hasn't even been able to muster another top 6 finish. He'll have us mid table and we will go on little runs and flirt with the play offs but that will be as exciting as it gets. As for Hughton since Mowbray last achieved a top 6 finish Hughton has achieved 4 top 6 finishes including two promotions. He also unlike Mowbray has done some decent jobs in the top flight.

I still think that is where he will end up. He's had a few decent performances this season but nothing outstanding and like with the team as a hole his best performances have come against 10 men. Technically there is no doubting him but physically he is just not cut out for this level of football. If he was 17-18 then I would say fair enough he's only young and growing but he's already 21 and he had the same problem ever since he got into the first team which is that he is too lightweight.
-
He'll be playing in the lower leagues if not non league in a few years. There are a lot of players like him down at that level good on the ball but unable to handle the physicality of the game and ends up getting bullied. Yesterday the Brentford lads down the left were going past him like he wasn't there.
-
Buckley at right back was dreadful yesterday, he desperately needs a loan in January he is not even close to being ready to play at this level. So many times they got past him like he wasn't there including for the second goal where his defensive effort was pitiful. Thankfully Frank took pity on him and took off Canos and Henry and focused on attacking down the other flank which allowed us back into the game.

They got past him far too easily and too often including for the second goal where his defensive efforts were poor. Thankfully Frank took pity on him and took off Canos and Henry and focused on attacking down the other flank which allowed us back into the game. On the positive side though regarding full backs I thought Bell did well second half, much better than Douglas who had a nightmare first half. -

A well earned and hard fought point after being put into trouble by the skipper. Very poor defending from Lenihan and highlighted his biggest problem as a player which is that he still hasn't matured and is still making bad, rash decisions. A number of excellent performances, Ayala had his best game in a Rovers shirt, Rothwell was excellent and Nyambe filled in very well at centre back. I thought that our standout performers were Gallagher and Johnson whose work rate's were phenomenal. Delighted for Davenport to get his first goal and I liked the look of him when he came on he looked to have plenty of energy and a bit of bite about him. Buckley at right back was an aberration, he desperately needs a loan in January he is miles and miles away from being good enough for this level. Also a special mention for Kaminski coming to take a high set piece in stoppage time to ease the pressure, that is the sort of thing that we have lacked between the sticks for many a year. -
Rovers v Millwall. Wed 2nd Dec 7.45pm

We don't score the winner without Johnson on the pitch none of Rothwell, Trybull and Holtby would be making the tackle that he did to start the counter attack. With Travis out injured Johnson is our only midfielder who likes the physical side of the game. A midfield of Rothwell, Trybull and Holtby lacks any real physicality. -

Not the best of performances but a good 3 points against a dogged Millwall team. I thought that Kaminski was rather very erratic last night, it's probably the worst game I have seen him have. Bell was very poor defensively as was Ayala who with a better ref could have cost us two penalties. Lenihan was very solid although he could also have quite easily conceded a penalty as well. Nyambe was good defensively and a danger going forward. Johnson again showed his importance to the team last night what a brilliant tackle to start the counter for the winner, it's these sort of games where he shows how valuable he is, as against sides like Millwall Holtby never really seems to fancy it. Holtby's performances have been a disappointment for me this season with the exception of Derby the only times he has controlled and dictated the midfield has been against 10 men. Elliott is a class act by far the most talented player the club has had since relegation from the Premiership. I did feel sorry for Gallagher last night he earnt himself a place in the starting line up but the role he was given just did not and never will suit him, if he is going to play then he has to play through the middle. I didn't think the triple subbed helped us originally as after it I though we looked disjointed but in the end good work from Downing and Rothwell contributed to the winner. As for Buckley I'm now sure what he role was exactly but not for the first time he looked like a lost boy out there. -
The thing with Pele was that at the World Cup's he won he played in comfortably the best team. Just look at the players he played with during his 3 World Cups wins. In 58 he played with Djalma and Nilton Santos arguably the best full back paring in the history of the game. He had Zagallo and Garrincha wide (personally I always thought at their peaks Garrincha was better than Pele). In midfield there was Didi and Zito and then he had Vava upfront with him. The bulk of the 58 side then went and won the World Cup again in 62 with Pele not playing at all after the second game. Take Maradona out of the 86 Argentina side then I don't think they would have won it. Probably the only other World Cup winning team that could be considered better than the Brazil teams of the 58 and 62 World Cup's would be the Brazil team of 1970 which was arguably an even better side. Again Pele was surrounded with world class talents like Gerson, Jairzinho, Carlos Alberto, Rivellino. Whereas the 86 Argentina team had good players but other than Maradona they only really had one other player that I would class as world class and that was Valdano.

Unusual for me but I have to agree with @Gav for me he is without a doubt the greatest to ever play the game. A true genius as a footballer and a great man who never forgot what he came from.

On the 23rd of last month Mowbray was hopeful Ayala would be fit to play at Coventry now a month on he is still isn't back training. I do have to question whether our fitness and medical teams are up to standard. Mowbray gives Ayala update ahead of Preston North End trip | Lancashire Telegraph -

Visually though Bell isn't a much better defender than anyone. He is awful in one on one situations and most of the time doesn't even attempt to stop crosses coming into the box. -

Who is our key midfield player? Holtby? Travis? Only the other day when he was out injured it was Rothwell now because he is back its someone else. Lenihan is a first choice centre half and he is not injured and it can't be a surprise to anyone that Ayala and Williams are injured their careers the last few years have been littered with injuries. As for Dack he has been missing for 11 months so it was hardly a surprise that he was missing and we have had two windows to find an alternative to him -

Swansea had a few out today with Covid and injuries but no excuses from them they went and won the game anyway. We are no different to any other club, in this season all clubs are going to be hit by Covid and in such a condensed season by injuries as well, the difference is Mowbray uses it as an excuse to let himself and the players of the hook. -

We don't have the players to play 4-3-3. We have played it ever since we came back from lockdown and have 25 points from 21 games playing it. Hopefully once Dack is back that will be the last we see of the system. -

Another disjointed performance, no real shape, no cohesion, in fact we looked like a team of strangers which is rather worrying when they have just had 2 weeks together on the training ground. We looked what we are a mid table side with some talented individuals. Kaminski was good. I'm still not sure what people see in JRC to me he is an academy version of Elliott Bennett, jack of all trades master of none and very suspect defensively. Douglas has been disappointing so far although a decent header to set the goal up. Lenihan was haphazard again today and Wharton was by far our best defender, there's no thrills with him but he is a very solid no nonsense defender. In midfield Trybull was very poor, personally I'd like to see Davenport given a start over him to see what he can do. Johnson looked off the pace as he very often does after a break. Rothwell showed glimpses but not enough and as so often with him an end product was lacking. It's the midfield 3 that create big problems though far too often this season there is a lack of understanding between the 3 and what their roles are. For me it's time to ditch the 4-3-3, although I have never been a fan of it. The front 3 were all pretty non existent. Good to see Gallagher get a goal he's never going to be a 20 goal a season man but play him central and get him in the box and he can get you 10-12 goals a season. Two goals this season and both have come from come a ball in from the left hand side and Gallagher standing central to the goal finishing, he is a striker and will never be a winger. Not sure we only made two subs, I thought Dolan should have been brought and as I think he would have troubled them late on. At the end of the day a mediocre point for a team that are heading for a 3rd successive season on mid table mediocrity under a mediocre manager. I think he was booked for his reaction where he ran up to the ref and was shouting right in his face In that case we should get Coyle back as he has been promoted from the is division more recently than Mowbray. -

Wouldn't bet on Ayala clearing up he was supposed to be in with a shout of playing the the Coventry game, yet a month on and he still isn't fit. -

Which is why our start to the season has been disappointing as a team. Usually when we go on a decent run of games in involves Lenihan leading the defence well, which is why he is important. -
