v Derby County (a) - 8/3/2025

I agree, but looking at our other options for wide right I don't see anyone standing out as a better choice than him. ACD hasn't really done enough to warrant starting, and Hedges is having an awful season. Weimann wide right perhaps? Doesn't have the legs for it IMO. You could bring Brittain further forward and move JRC into right back as one option, but can JRC be trusted at right back these days? -

Derby 1 - 0 Roves. Nyambe 90+5. Come on, this is the most Rovers mess it up fixture of all time 😂. Very cynical of me yes, but I just feel like its inevitable. A touch of Millwall away about it. Predicted team: Pears Brittain Carter Hyam Ribeiro Travis Tronstad Dolan Weimann Kargbo Gueye -

Take the point and move on. Weimann is a very good option to bring off the bench. Relief. -

Only Derby away next as well. Nyambe stoppage time winner written in the stars 😂 -

Valérien Ismaël: Blackburn Rovers Head Coach
sharpysharps86 replied to DE.'s topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Wishing Ismael the best of luck. He's going to need it working with those above him. It feels like a short term appointment, but then you look at the length of contract and think how weird it is that they've given him that deal when he's never lasted long anywhere he's been. Trying to figure out why Rovers do the things they do will lead you to a padded room though, so probably best not to dwell on it. I hope it works out of course, but equally I suspect we will all be back posting on the next 'new manager wish list' thread in a few months time 😂. He doesn't come across as someone that will take any nonsense, so I expect him to run out of patience with Waggott, Suhail, Gestede, etc. by the time the summer transfer window opens. -

Toth looks even worse. -
Absolutely fair, I too am glad he isn't Rovers manager anymore. Was simply making the point that grouping him in with Coyle is just massively incorrect IMO.
-
I'm all for bashing Coyle, but I don't think its fair to group Mowbray in with that clown. Mowbray ultimately got us back up to the Championship and steadies the ship. Absolutely no comparison between him and Coyle. Obviously I wouldn't want Mowbray now, and he definitely had his flaws whilst at Rovers but lets not re-write history and suggest he was anything like a Coyle or dare I say a 'he who must not be named'.

Looks like there will be a new head coach on the touchline for this one. Hopefully it brings some needed changes from the starting 11 against Swansea. Norwich are quite indifferent away from home by the looks of it, but I think this one might just be a score draw. 1-1. Gueye for Rovers, Sainz for Norwich. The team I would go with: Pears Brittain Carter Hyam Ribeiro Travis Buckley Dolan Dennis Kargbo Gueye If Cantwell is fit then I can see him coming in. Hopefully Ohashi gets some minutes and maybe Tronstad on the bench with a bit of luck. It'll be too soon for him to return to the starting 11 I imagine. -
Is that new as of today or just the story from yesterday evening? Honestly just want it sorted now. I it is going to be Ismail then just get him in and get on with the job.
-
Reading the latest LT article, I didn't realise Ismail had WBA in 5th spot when they sacked him. I suppose they expected to be higher than that though having just come back down from the premier league. Did they replace him with Steve Bruce? The obvious concern is that he doesn't stick around long at any club, and it probably won't be long before he falls out with someone above him, so we'll probably have a another new manager / head coach thread by Christmas 😂.
-
Not surprised if its between Wagner and Ismail. Both pretty uninspiring but can't say I expected anything else. They are both at least better than Karanka in my mind. Trying to see the positives in either of these appointments: I'm not fussed about style of play. If it's Ismail and he likes playing hoof ball...so be it. Had Venkys stuck with that there Big Sam fella who played a similar style then Rovers might be in a very different place than the one they find today. If its Wagner....well I remember his Norwich side comfortably taking Rovers apart at Ewood in JDT's first season. His successor at Norwich isn't doing any better, and he's done something that Rovers haven't managed since 2012 which is reach the playoffs on multiple occasions, winning it once. He also managed to beat Ipswich so he's at least won a local derby too, something none of our recent managers / head coaches seem to be capable of when it comes to Burnley. Probably as good as its gonna get for us at this stage and with the money on offer for any potential head coach. Meh.

Play offs - hypothetical scenario
sharpysharps86 replied to Paradoxlens's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
There's only one real 'league title' in England...and Rovers won it at Anfield in May 1995 🙂. We've seen things they'll never see. -
If the article is 4 and a half years ago then that more than likely mean the average salary has increased further. Parachute payment clubs or not, you have to keep up paddling up to the surface or you'll eventually sink to a lower level. What is your basis for 600k being decent by the way? Genuine question and not trying to be funny. Do you have any stats or facts to back that up or is it just an opinion / hunch?

Unfortunately Lowe had already made it fairly clear in the Plymouth post match interviews that Kargbo wouldn't be starting. Simply read between the lines of his comment on AK needing to work on the defensive side of his game. -

Ah yes, the definition of someone being a prick. -
I'm taking the Nixon story with a pinch of salt. There is probably truth in the salary info, but the other stuff about Lowe's chances of staying in the job getting a boost, and Adam Owen's involvement, etc....I think that's the part of the story where he's whacking the wasps nest amongst the fanbase to make the story sound more interesting. Plus, how have we suddenly gone in Nixons mind from interviewing final candidates in London to 'now struggling to bring someone in'....it doesn't make sense. He's used the names of Cooper and O'Neil, who last managed premier league clubs. Well Rovers are unlikely to be able to match their previous salaries anyway. To me this is a story to backtrack on the same person strongly naming Karanka as a final candidate only for LT to pour the coldest of water on that. The salary figure is obviously not great in comparison to what most championship level managers are on, but is anyone that surprised by the club being cheap about it? I'm not. On another point, I doubt Lowe even wants the job because when it inevitably goes tits up, he'll be shown the door as the scapegoat.
-
This team seems to fight for it more when they're up against it....but when the pressure releases a little bit and here's an opportunity to really kick on they just never take it. I suppose this is what a lot of fans of other clubs say though. Such is life at a good chunk of championship clubs....no less frustrating though!
-
Leicester had a genuinely better chance with Cooper in charge. Obviously his face didn't fit (poor choice of words). Sadly it'll be 2 seasons in a row where the promoted teams all come hurtling back down. Makes me wonder why I'd want to see Rovers in that league again, knowing that they'd likely get stuffed every week....but then I remember its just about the only hope we have of getting new owners in.
-
And he was pretty awful in it too. Think he's well comfortable in the Soccer Saturday pundit role now anyway. For the best as well!

Well that was dreadful. Nobody comes out of that game with any credit in the bank. All very poor. The team selection was all wrong. It looked like a team picked with too much respect for the opposition and needed to be far braver offensively. Should've been a front 4 of Dolan, Dennis, Kargbo and Gueye to start. Hedges should be about 4th or 5th choice at this point. Best to move on as quickly as possible from today....but they really do need to make an appointment this coming week ahead of Norwich at Ewood. -

Gah. Sounds like we've had chances and done the usual away day trick. Hopefully they can claw their way back into it with a couple of subs.
