Problem is, that if he is at a level that will get action from Premier League clubs we simply won't be able to make an offer that matches what he will be expecting from the Premier League.

JDT was appointed manager after Greg became DOF - quite possibly it was Greg who got him the job. But surely JDT would have known the score regarding transfers before accepting the job ? It was up to him to clear up the situation in the job interviews.

People getting worked up about Broughton not giving interviews for some reason but I don't see Directors of Football at other clubs doing so ; it's not part of the job spec and potential transfer and loan deals should be kept confidential if you want them to go through.

The combined contribution of Zeefuik, Davenport, Poveda, Chapman, Magloire and Brown was minimal so it's really a loss of 7 who actually contributed. We've signed 3, had Carter back on loan , have Dack and Markinday hopefully fit now to contribute in a meaningful way and have young players coming through so the reduction in quality is nothing like what some are saying.

What he wants is the only thing that's relevant. If he wants to run his contract down to the summer there is nothing the club can do.

But you can't move the player on unless he agrees to it.

It gets him under contract which puts the club in the position of deciding if and when he leaves, and for what fee, rather than him walking at the end of the season and the club at the mercy of a tribunal regarding his fee.

I don't understand this rant of yours. I didn't foresee that he would reach the level that he now has and have never said that I did. The point is that the sort of contract offer that he would definitely have accepted just over a year ago could not be made because at that time his performances had not justified it - therefore the club cannot be criticised for not making such an offer. I agreed with your original post on this. You are literally the only poster on here that has complained because I agreed with them.

I don't know if we are in the market for 2 centre halves. We seem to be after one on loan from Liverpool. I will trust the manager to make the best decision based on what is right for the club - but I can't agree to people demanding he doesn't pick a player simply to screw the player and his advisors or Spurs.

Yet we developed a 17 year old for Liverpool. Surely we do what we think will lead to the best results on the pitch - which this season might mean promotion.
