That *was* the January Window
Danny O.Brien replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Can see the Gallagher transfer being this January's what if talking point come next summer. Last year it was the O'Brien deal, the year before it was the rothwell money and who we could've got in with that money. I have little faith any money from the sale of Gallagher would be reinvested. As much as it pains me to say I'd rather have him then some money we won't get to spend on a replacement. -

I think Elliot was further along in his development than Moran is even though he was younger. Elliot is brilliant but I thought he'd have progressed more than he has at Liverpool. Moran is good no doubt and better than what we have. Maybe Elliot benefited from the lockdown situation and playing Infront of empty stadiums. Elliot was brilliant here and I was excited when we got Moran. Hopefully he can kick on and produce like he was starting to before the whole squad seem to have had a slump. -

I like Moran he's just a little lightweight in an already lightweight team. I think he definitely has the ability to be a good player, just a shame for us he isn't at that level consisitanly yet. -

We have steadily been getting worse and replacing quality with kids or short term loans. Look at that squad that came up and maybe I'm looking through rose tinted glasses because of the promotion season. You had goals all over the pitch. Dack and Graham were excellent. Mulgrew chipping in with something like ten goals that first season back. We had a genuinely good squad and had goals all over the pitch. Since then we've been too dependent on first Armstrong, then brererton and now szmodics. We can't keep going like this and not expect it to catch up with us. If anybody else in this squad gets more than 7 goals this season I'll be seriously impressed. -

He's shite same as telalovic unfortunately. People talk like they're 18/19 and learning. They're both mid 20s and should be further on by now. Dress it up however you want, take away szmodics goals this season and I dread to think where we would be in the league. We have been overachieving pretty much since we came up from league one. The owners refuse to back the manager. Despite a promising start last season and early this. -

We offered more money than Plymouth were willing to. We got him on a free with the potential to sell on for a fee further down the line. It was a calculated risk but I just don't see him ever improving unfortunately. Bear in mind this deal was done very early in the summer before all the budgets got cut, because of the whole Indian tax thing. Knowing what we know now surely the club could've used the wages elsewhere. -

The 10k a week we offered that they wouldn't I'd imagine. No way any club comes in for him and offers those sort of wages. Best we can hope is a loan away and whoever takes him pays a percentage. -

Fucking stupid decision to loan Travis, if we aren't getting a fee then it only weakens us and strengthens them. -

Not sure on the result but surely szmodics is nailed on to score? Away, in the cup and in London. Does anybody know of anywhere local ish showing the game tonight? Do the blues bar usually announce it on the day if they're showing it? Cheers -

Scott was good in a back three and it decent in the air. As an actual footballer he is terrible but he is an older head and not bad back up for this level. I thought he had a much better second half but was really poor in the first. Semir was desperate to score last night but was just a yard or two off. Shows passion and was desperate to take the penalty which could've been the kick start he needed. Tronstad was excellent and actually looked alot better moving the ball forward too. Moran brilliant and should've had a hat trick. As for the draw, I keep envisioning szmodics scoring at Stamford bridge. He loves an away goal. -
Best bit was all the bollocks before from the owner and the investors. Talking about how much of a feel good factor there is around the club and what a special community Burnley is. That all went to shit before kick off when they booed taking the knee and was only made worse over the course of the match. The lighter thrown from pretty much the second row on live TV 😂. As for their performance I think they did alright for the most part in the first half. But are serverly lacking up front. I think that Lyle foster might be more useless than Gallagher. Some of their new signings looked very inexperienced. If you look at player for player who they've brought in to replace the loan signings. For example o'shea for harwood-bellis and the lad playing at left back for maatsen. They looked like downgrades but most would against city. I think with how good of a season they had last season it will always take time before the feel good factor disappears. But all the talk pre season about top ten finishes at a minimum and the fact they think they're above a relegation battle is hilarious. The Luton game would've been a realistic chance at three points and it being postponed could be really bad timing for them. They've got as tough a start this season's as anybody. Hopefully a few more results like last night and the players start to doubt themselves and the fans turn on the tippy tappy football. Great start to the weekend we just need to follow it up by winning today.

Hopefully alot of the players will still be hurting from the result there last season and will want to prove a point. In this league you can't tell how a game is going to turn out but I'm hopeful we will be more consistent this season. If we want to be competing at the top we need to steamroll teams like this. But given last season I'll take a win. -

Yeah I thought the lack of height up top especially against two absolute units in adjeyi and kipre would cost us. Anything going forward would come straight back but to be fair we just passed them off the pitch. Also the passing around the back line seemed alot slicker and actually had purpose, especially with them trying to press and win it back and getting nowhere near. -

I thought they were brilliant yesterday, I was really impressed. Leonard coming deep to win the ball was refreshing. Pleased for him and markanday who had a bad time of it at Aberdeen. Leonard should've had a hatrick it not at least the first one. All positive. I'd start Leonard again mid week and hopefully he can score again and go on a bit of a run. Still few players short but can't have any complaints about that performance. -

Good for Luton I watched the game and they were brilliant in the first half. And Id say after watching all the play off games they deserved it overall. Can't help but watch those games though and think we would've won 😂. Such a huge missed opportunity and it really feels like it now having seen how the other teams performed. Also it would've been awful if mowbray left here and went up with another team the season after. And after how the Coventry fans and players celebrated the last minute handball I'm glad they didn't go up. -

Annoying but unavoidable if he does go, it's his club and where his family live. Just means we're going to be spending most of the summer replacing him rather than sorting out transfers. To be fair to Gregg the egg the one thing he has done well so far is getting JDT in the first place. -
Bradley Dack - Twist or Stick?
Danny O.Brien replied to bigbrandjohn's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Great post. Loved that season in league one (but one was enough) and he along with DG and mulgrew were the highlight. The manager must have a replacement in mind or Gregg the egg does. Because the easy and probably cheaper option would be to just use the extension clause in his contract. I saw a video of Dolan earlier with a certain Joao felix festired. I'm not sure he'd get in ahead of szmodics but it'd be a decent option off the bench. -

As sad as it is there's no way we could justify spending so much a week on those wages. And also no way he would or should sign a deal here for less. He'd be a worth a punt for most sides on the right wage and I hope he does well and stays for wherever he ends up. It's such a shame he got that first big injury. He was so close to probably getting a premier league move and for me was the best player in the championship at the time. -

Yeah I was always expecting kaminski to come back into the side. I don't see any area where pears is better? People rate his contribution and I've sat in the Blackburn end all season and don't see it. For me on his day kaminski is the only player he have/had this season who is premier league quality. I think pears has been a decent back up but I don't see how he has kept our number one out of the team. The only thing I can think is that he is off this summer. I think the major difference this season is we have been poor at times but very rarely have been terrible and been absolutely blown away. Even against top sides. Under mowbray we would go on 3/4 game runs of being absolutely useless. We need to back the manager or he will move on and be successful elsewhere. -

Danny O.Brien replied to arbitro's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yesterday was a brilliant watch and just shows what we're capable of. I think if that game was 0-0 at the break, there'd be no urgency and we'd probably go on to lose 1-0 like we have already so many times this season. When you look back at the last month or so we should've won all if not most of those games. We had the hardest run in and I can't think of us being out played of many of those sides. I think with a decent striker up top we win more of those games and that should be our absolute focus this summer. It was those two late goals against Coventry and Preston that have cost us most. But looking back there have been other games we should've won and haven't. -
v Luton Town (h) - 1/5/23
Danny O.Brien replied to roverandout's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yeah Luton's front two will cause us problems. The rest of the team I'm not so sure about but they are on a great run. At home I'd be hopeful we can beat them. Just need to take our chances and get the crowd on side again. I know it's cliche but the atmosphere (until the goal) the other night was incredible. It had to push the players on. Beat these and go into the lady game of the season with a chance of the play offs and I think we'd all be happy with that. Team wise I couldn't see much wrong with the way we set up the other night. Diaz although poor in the first half I think played a lot better after the break. He should've gone down for a penalty but i don't blame him for trying to get a shot away. He's a due a goal and although he's been missing for large parts of this season is on his day still our best forward. I'd have put kaminski back in by now but I don't think that will happen now. -

Still hurting from last night. But as a performance especially compared to the game back in November. We were as good as we've been all season. Unfortunately that's football we have to be at our very best to have a chance of winning. A team doing as well as Burnley can win without playing well. That's why they are where they are. I don't think we're a million miles away from where we all want this club to be. Man for man we battled all over the pitch. Adam Wharton was absolutely exceptional again and bossed that midfield. Against far more experienced and 'better' players. With a proven goal scorer we would have won 3/3 games this last week. Fine margins. We go into these last two games playing well. Let's see where we end up.
