v West Bromwich Albion (H) - 05/08/2023

Yeah I thought the lack of height up top especially against two absolute units in adjeyi and kipre would cost us. Anything going forward would come straight back but to be fair we just passed them off the pitch. Also the passing around the back line seemed alot slicker and actually had purpose, especially with them trying to press and win it back and getting nowhere near. -

I thought they were brilliant yesterday, I was really impressed. Leonard coming deep to win the ball was refreshing. Pleased for him and markanday who had a bad time of it at Aberdeen. Leonard should've had a hatrick it not at least the first one. All positive. I'd start Leonard again mid week and hopefully he can score again and go on a bit of a run. Still few players short but can't have any complaints about that performance. -

😂 I thought I was craking up then. I was sure it said £8. Had a good day out last season in that away end. Hopefully the weather is similar this year. -

Good for Luton I watched the game and they were brilliant in the first half. And Id say after watching all the play off games they deserved it overall. Can't help but watch those games though and think we would've won 😂. Such a huge missed opportunity and it really feels like it now having seen how the other teams performed. Also it would've been awful if mowbray left here and went up with another team the season after. And after how the Coventry fans and players celebrated the last minute handball I'm glad they didn't go up. -

Annoying but unavoidable if he does go, it's his club and where his family live. Just means we're going to be spending most of the summer replacing him rather than sorting out transfers. To be fair to Gregg the egg the one thing he has done well so far is getting JDT in the first place. -
Bradley Dack - Twist or Stick?
Danny O.Brien replied to bigbrandjohn's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Great post. Loved that season in league one (but one was enough) and he along with DG and mulgrew were the highlight. The manager must have a replacement in mind or Gregg the egg does. Because the easy and probably cheaper option would be to just use the extension clause in his contract. I saw a video of Dolan earlier with a certain Joao felix festired. I'm not sure he'd get in ahead of szmodics but it'd be a decent option off the bench. -

As sad as it is there's no way we could justify spending so much a week on those wages. And also no way he would or should sign a deal here for less. He'd be a worth a punt for most sides on the right wage and I hope he does well and stays for wherever he ends up. It's such a shame he got that first big injury. He was so close to probably getting a premier league move and for me was the best player in the championship at the time. -

Yeah I was always expecting kaminski to come back into the side. I don't see any area where pears is better? People rate his contribution and I've sat in the Blackburn end all season and don't see it. For me on his day kaminski is the only player he have/had this season who is premier league quality. I think pears has been a decent back up but I don't see how he has kept our number one out of the team. The only thing I can think is that he is off this summer. I think the major difference this season is we have been poor at times but very rarely have been terrible and been absolutely blown away. Even against top sides. Under mowbray we would go on 3/4 game runs of being absolutely useless. We need to back the manager or he will move on and be successful elsewhere. -
v Millwall (a) - Monday 8th May
Danny O.Brien replied to arbitro's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yesterday was a brilliant watch and just shows what we're capable of. I think if that game was 0-0 at the break, there'd be no urgency and we'd probably go on to lose 1-0 like we have already so many times this season. When you look back at the last month or so we should've won all if not most of those games. We had the hardest run in and I can't think of us being out played of many of those sides. I think with a decent striker up top we win more of those games and that should be our absolute focus this summer. It was those two late goals against Coventry and Preston that have cost us most. But looking back there have been other games we should've won and haven't. -
v Luton Town (h) - 1/5/23
Danny O.Brien replied to roverandout's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yeah Luton's front two will cause us problems. The rest of the team I'm not so sure about but they are on a great run. At home I'd be hopeful we can beat them. Just need to take our chances and get the crowd on side again. I know it's cliche but the atmosphere (until the goal) the other night was incredible. It had to push the players on. Beat these and go into the lady game of the season with a chance of the play offs and I think we'd all be happy with that. Team wise I couldn't see much wrong with the way we set up the other night. Diaz although poor in the first half I think played a lot better after the break. He should've gone down for a penalty but i don't blame him for trying to get a shot away. He's a due a goal and although he's been missing for large parts of this season is on his day still our best forward. I'd have put kaminski back in by now but I don't think that will happen now. -

Still hurting from last night. But as a performance especially compared to the game back in November. We were as good as we've been all season. Unfortunately that's football we have to be at our very best to have a chance of winning. A team doing as well as Burnley can win without playing well. That's why they are where they are. I don't think we're a million miles away from where we all want this club to be. Man for man we battled all over the pitch. Adam Wharton was absolutely exceptional again and bossed that midfield. Against far more experienced and 'better' players. With a proven goal scorer we would have won 3/3 games this last week. Fine margins. We go into these last two games playing well. Let's see where we end up. -

Danny O.Brien replied to Upside Down's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
My problem is that we've played well especially the last two games and not won. So by that logic we're due a bad result and they are due a performance 😂. I wish we'd of played them last Saturday instead of Coventry their form going into that game. If we'd of hung on those last two games. And we were sitting comfortably on 69 points with less pressure on the league. Tonight would be seen as a free hit. We're expected to get beat. Now all the pressure is on us because not only do we desperately need to beat them to stop them winning the title at ewood. Now we need a win to keep our play off chances alive. Performance of the season so far needed tonight. We need to make it a scrap and not give them time to pass it around us like at turf moor. We need to battle from the first whistle and get the fans on side. -

Oh definitely it's not a bad thing at all it's just I think most fans want him to be as passionate and bothered as them. And the truth is he is but in a professional capacity which is totally different to us fans . -

Yeah jdt overall I've been happy with for the most part. Look at some of the players we've lost in the last couple of seasons. Off the top of my head. Armstrong, Johnson, holtby, downing, nyambe, lenihan, rothwell, bell, Evans, Bennett, williams, graham and mulgrew. Not saying they were all brilliant but they were starters and squad players. Vastly more experienced than what we currently have. We hopefully have at least three really good prospects coming through. In Wharton, Phillips and Leonard. It's an exciting time to be a fan of this club with just those three breaking into the first team. The fact we're anywhere near top six with our squad is incredible. It doesn't mean that we should be like oh well we wer never expected to get in the play offs. For the last two years we've been there or there abouts. We're as good as Millwall or Luton. The manager should be desperate to make top six and then it's the lottery of the play offs. I think he's just comes across as calm whatever the result. Which can be frustrating for us as fans. But must be reassuring for such a young inexperienced squad. I'll wait until the season of finished before judging him as a manager but there has been far more good than bad this season. -

All keepers can be rash especially in situations such as last night. I'm saying play your best player and give yourself the best chance. Case and point haaland missing a penalty last night. But still you put your best player forward to give yourself the best chance. -

Positives from tonight back upto sixth and a good result without playing particularly well. Wharton absolute class and man of the match hopefully he gets a good run in the side between now and the end of the season. Diaz HAS to be dropped after tonight surely? Other results went our way and there will be loads more shock results, in this crazy league. And most importantly it is still in our own hands. Negatives firstly us being caught offside so many times, especially in the first half an hour or so. Diaz needs benching if not for his own good. He looks lost at times and you have little szmodics next to him charging everywhere and winning everything. If you could combine his talent with Sammies graft you'd have a hell of a player. Conceding like that right at the end was sickening. Especially as we've held leads so well this season for the most part. The same can't be said under mowbray where you were just waiting for the other team to score and then probably go on and lose the game . Ref had a good game until towards the end and I thought let the game play out. The handball was ridiculous but again we invited the pressure by not getting out and them putting in corner after corner. For me pears needs to claim one of those and fall down on the ball, hoof it and the whistle goes. I know a certain Belgian international sat on the bench would've done. -

As said previous id revert back to a three man midfield. Defend deep with hyam hounding gyorkeres all game. We need to nullify him and keep him out of the game as much as possible. Double up on him if needed with Garret/Travis. Have Wharton turning and spraying the ball out wide. Use pace up top ie Thomas/Dolan and szmodics. Just keep firing that ball in behind over and over. Go direct from the start get the crowd on side. Nice early goal to quieten the away fans. Big huge massive season defining game tonight. -

If we win tomorrow and at the weekend it takes the pressure off next Tuesday. Not for fans but as in league position. Both of the next two games are far more winnable. So let's win them, then the burnley game is more of a free hit. It can't be as bad as the reverse fixture (🤞🤞🤞). -

Don't get why when we played so well against a resurgent Huddersfield (I know we only took a point). He decides to switch formation the following game. We looked as threatening and dominating possession wise because apparently how he wants us to play. As we have all season. Now is the time to ring the changes stop just fucking drifting through games and have a go. Stop playing players out of some kind of loyalty or stubbornness. Absolutely start kaminski. Pears has been decent and had a good run. But play out best keeper. Arguably the best keeper in the league on his day. Get Wharton into that midfield alongside Garret and Travis for me. Have Travis go box to box. I know I'm a few days late after the Hull game but we need to see some urgency before it becomes just another close season. Start Leonard, Thomas and szmodics. Drop gally and Diaz. Use all five subs if needed and with time to do something to actually affect the game. Or we'll get absolutely battered by both Coventry and Preston. Leading into a potential humiliation against the dingles. And breath -

Danny O.Brien replied to arbitro's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yeah we should be aiming to win all of our home games. The two exceptions being Norwich and Burnley. Norwich and depending on how the table looks just not being beaten might be enough. And Burnley are burnley I'd love a win but just couldn't stand to see a repeat of November. Reading are shite with a shite manager. But have a couple of decent players who could hurt us if they turn up. Make a couple of changes to freshen things up. 2-0 rovers. -
I think it's brilliant that the first teamers and u21s are interchangeable. Especially with what seems to be such a talented crop coming through. It keeps first teamers match fit and shows a clear pathway to the first team for the youth side.

If we really want to finish in the top six we should be going for a win here. But absolutely not getting beat. If we can keep up our home form and take points away from home we will be there abouts. Especially if they're missing as many players as last weekend. -
Yeah I like him he's different to what we have and can put the ball in the back of the net. I can't be doing with the pointless flicks that never find anyone or pirouettes on the halfway line though. We saw all sides of his game last night. Good and bad. But he scored and nearly had another goal earlier on. No idea how wasn't man of the match.
