That was the only highlight from what was one of the worst seasons in history. Thankfully Souness took a machete to that squad and built up a proper team the year after and got the job done.

That was entirely the objective. Previously, a shit season could see you down and someone (although it was still very difficult) could go on a blinder and win the whole thing. Absolutely not a chance of either of those things happening now. Even shit small clubs like palace and Everton are safe no matter how shit they are because there will always be three teams that are just completely gash. That's before you even start getting into the complete lack of atmosphere and passion from the attendees.
