He never rated Hyam and Leonard in the first place and Miller will step up at centre half. The lad from Iceland is a massive improvement on Leonard ( that bit’s true ) so what is everybody bitching about again ? -

It’s the timing of it. He wouldn’t get in my best 25 Blackburn Rovers centre halves but without a replacement it’s a crazy deal. Especially when the fee is minuscule and will just disappear. -

How do you think Simon Garner would have gone on playing up front on his own in this team ? -

I look on the bright side, it’s international week next week so they can’t ruin my weekend again for a while. It’s come to something when I look forward to us NOT playing ! -

That’s what separates the real players for the also rans. Decision making at speed under pressure. Getting it right. I can’t for the life of me understand why centre halves try to pull players back in and around the penalty area. Let the player go, loads of things can happen. The striker can shoot wide, hit the keeper, stumble over the ball etc etc. Pulling them back only ends one way. Even if your keeper saves the pen you’ve still got to play half the game a man down. Dumb footballers = Dumb football. -

They’ll never have a better chance. I’d even fancy us getting something there today so is the shambles at Old Trafford. -

He didn’t Phillip. Neither Pele or Ronnie Clayton played in the 0-0 draw between England and Brazil in the 1958 World Cup. It was a result of Brazil failing to score that they brought Pele into the team. Wolves Eddie Clamp played in Ronnie’s position. Bryan Douglas played in that game though. Ronnie did play directly against Pele in the away friendly against Brazil in the following year. -

Go on YouTube. The goal was for Sheffield United v Ipswich. If you didn’t know it was Tony Field you’d think it was Messi. A brilliant bit of skill. Incidentally I was browsing the racks in TKMaxx years ago and I came across two replica New York Cosmos shirts by “ Umbro “ , one home and one away. “ Pele “ and “ 10 “ on the back. I just couldn’t leave them there. I was hoping to get the great man to sign them one day. Too late now. -

Hunter was part of the Bobby Bell transfer. Bell came as a £20,000 make weight in that deal and we sold him about 3 weeks later for £55,000 to Palace where he hardly ever played. A Jim Smith master stroke, even if we lost Hunter who was top class, as his future career at Ipswich proved. -

I remember Jim Smith, who was the Derby manager at that time, telling the story about how Rovers bought Dailly. His chairman had heard through the grapevine that Rovers were going to bid for Dailly, so they had a meeting and agreed that they wouldn’t accept a penny less than £2 million for him. They nearly fell off their seats when in the conference call over the phone Roy Boy’s opening offer was £5 million ! They even managed to squeeze another £250,000 out of us !
