  3. I saw him a few times, top notch player. He was part of the City team that ran us ragged in that 1-4 FA Cup defeat. My best memory is of a league game at Ewood a week or so before he left Bolton for City. We were winning 2-1 late on and Bolton wanted to sub off striker Bob Hatton and bring on another player. Hatton was dragging his feet, he didn’t want to go off. Franny Lee came running over and gave him a real mouthful, telling him “ Get the fuck off this pitch now ! “ This was right in front of me and I was a bit shocked to hear him swearing at a team mate.
  4. Mowbray was already throwing cold water on any ambitions the rest of us may have had the minute we got promoted.
  5. The Everly Brothers - When Will I Be Loved
  6. What a great goal. Looks to be a good standard of football.
  7. Gally ? He’s the most injury prone giant I’ve ever seen. Then in another code you see that French scrum half wanting to play with a fractured cheek bone.
  8. I agree with you regarding Hill in the defensive midfield role. He looks mobile enough to play there.
  9. Irma Thomas - Time Is On My Side
  10. When I heard we’d signed Tronstad I thought he’d be the player to play alongside Travis and let Wharton play further forward. So far he hasn’t made the grade. At the moment it’s like playing Berkovic or Bohinen at the back instead of where they could do the most damage.
  11. The Johnny Otis Band - Willie And The Hand Jive
  12. I’ve only seen him play in the flesh for 30 minutes at Accy but I was underwhelmed to say the least. It’s not fair to judge a player on that basis but I saw nothing that I could hang my hat on in that time.
  13. It’s way past that point. Their reputation is in the gutter. They stopped worrying about that years ago, if they ever did.
  14. Regarding the “ some height “ and “ a midfield grafter “ I was expecting Tronstad to be that player. He falls down in the height category ( mods - am I allowed to say that ? ), we’ll see if he’s a grafter when he gets a game. It’s starting to look like JDT isn’t impressed so far.
  15. I’ve heard all that before. The 1966 team with Ronnie, Dougie, Mike England, Fergie, Keith Newton, Andy Mac, was “ too good to go down “. But they did. Same old story - not enough goals at one end and a keeper not doing his job at the other. Look at the players in Kiddo’s team, he had the best squad by far in the Div once we’d been relegated but he’d have taken us down again if Jack hadn’t have fired him ! No such thing as “ too good to go down “ and this team at the moment certainly isn’t. Some teams have the smell of relegation about them. We’re not there yet but we must be a cause for concern.
  16. I don’t think we ever had the money to sign the players capable of playing to “ his style “. That was obvious right from the start. In that case you have to modify your style to fit the players you actually have.
  17. I think the “ test “ then was “ show us your bank account “. After that there was nothing.
  18. When you’re playing the top of the pile who’ve just come down from the Premier League and all your recognised strikers are out through injury you need to be more circumspect. Of course you can be more attack minded against the lesser teams in the league when circumstances allow.
  19. The Staple Singers - Respect Yourself
  20. He seems to only know one way of playing. You set up to make it hard for your opponents, try to negate their strengths. We should have been set much more conservatively today. Packed the midfield and made it hard for them to play through us.
  21. They won’t be looking forward to visiting Luton. You have to win the fighting before you can win the football.
  22. And there in lies the crux of the problem. What happens when the teacher leaves the classroom ?
  23. They’ll kill the club that’s for sure. It’ll be a slow lingering death.
