  1. I’d have fancied us with a better squad but not with that bench. It must have been the weakest we’ve ever fielded by a very long chalk. Atcheson, Bloxham, Montgomery, Duru ? Who are they ? What positions do they play ? No wonder the U-21’s are getting battered every week, they’ll all on the bench for the first team !
  2. When I saw the bench I was expecting this sort of performance. You can’t keep going for 2 games a week without being able to rest players .We’ve nearly another possible starting 11 better than today’s starting 11 out injured today. Just a couple of them may have made a difference if we could have brought them on for the last 30 minutes. We haven’t got the resources to cope with so many missing. Not many championship level teams have. We’re in for a tough ride until we can get some bodies back on the pitch. Regarding “ Kids “ some players are “ Kids “ all their lives. Wayne Rooney was a man at 17. It’s not just about chronological age it’s about attitude.
  3. Maybe JDT was worried he’d get red carded. When you’re the only one putting it about you stick out like a sore thumb. When everybody’s at it you.‘vee got a chance.
  4. My team talk if I was the Sheff Wed manager before the game - “ Get stuck right into these, they’re a bunch of kids and they don’t like it up ‘em”.
  5. You’ve only got to look at our bench Jim. It’s not an eleven a side game anymore, your subs are crucial and I’d never even heard of most of ours !
  6. I remember reading many years ago ( 1960’s ) that the coming tactic/way of playing was going to be “ The Wheel “. Players would all be completely interchangeable and play wherever the ball took them. As you say basically a team of midfield players who could all run a bit, pass the ball a bit, shoot a bit, tackle a bit, head the ball a bit etc. I remember Les McDowall who was the manager at Man City at the time tried it for a few games. He packed the City team with what were known as “ wing halves” then. Defensive midfield players today. After they got hammered each time by teams playing the more conventional game the plan was abandoned.
  7. The Seeds - Pushing Too Hard
  8. Brownsville Station - Smokin’ In The Boys Room
  9. The Standells - Sometimes Good Guys Don’t Wear White
  10. Put JRC at right back and slot Gilsenan in in midfield and you have a full team.
  11. We can’t be unhappy with an away draw, especially under the circumstances.
  12. My 3 tickets dropped through my letter box yesterday ! How’s that for service ? Well done all at Rovers.
  13. For old timers - the new Jim Baxter ?
  14. Been there, bought the tee shirt etc etc. Games are only easy when you’ve made them easy. No game is easy at 3-00 pm on Saturday afternoon. Take these lightly and we’ll come unstuck.
  15. MGP for me. He even let Arteta poke him in the eye and did nothing. A nice lad who was Rovers through and through but not an ounce of aggression in him.
  16. He didn’t even have to look, he just knew where to pass that ball. It’s really hard to play against players like that, they don’t give you a clue what they’re going to do with the ball and they rarely do the obvious thing.
  17. Only a class player can make plays like that. He knew where the ball was going way before it arrived.
  18. I remember watching “ Fash The Bash “ in a League Cup game at Rochdale. He was up against an old school centre half whose name escapes me. Could be John Bramhall. Two really hard men who had a game of their own with no ball involved. Being at Spotland I was stood right by the touch line and I got the full effect. It was brutal.
  19. I couldn’t agree more. I shudder to think what the previous manager would have done in this situation. I can’t believe we’re still winning games with the depleted squad.
  20. Dionne Warwick - Anyone Who Had A Heart
  21. The Axe was a hard man, nobody would have relished coming up against him. The sort of player that if you kicked him you’d hurt your foot.
  22. If we’d anything like a decent squad to call on I’d fancy us for the three points. But we’re down to basically the last eleven plus kids. Every game we’ve played recently we’ve lost a player. And not for the odd game either, long term injuries. We need some players back urgently. We can’t expect the same 13 or so players to keep performing under these circumstances. I’d take a draw now, remember draws ?
  23. I think JDT likes Gally because of his size and he values him as much for his defending in our half as his attacking play in their half. We always seem to be a much smaller side than our opponents, probably because we usually are.
