  1. Staying in this league is their idea of “ achievement “. Promotion ? Why ? Whatever for ? So the full glare of publicity can be shone on them and their dodgy dealings ? I don’t think so.
  2. Nobody in their right mind will make a move for Wharton until he’s back playing again. That’s not likely to be until after the transfer window shuts.
  3. Esther Phillips - And I Love Him
  4. Winterbottom had to do whatever he could with the players the selectors chose. Sir Alf put a stop to that. Regarding Southgate as a bloke I really liked him, great son in law material. He came over really well as a human being on “ Desert Island Discs “ recently. As a coach he just didn’t have that X factor that separates the top achievers from the also rans. He could have coached England for the next 25 years and we still wouldn’t have looked like winning anything.
  5. There’ll be other clubs interested so we can forget him. Players only come here when there isn’t a realistic alternative.
  6. It was a strange appointment in the first place.
  7. Derek Martin - Daddy Rollin’ Stone
  8. I can’t see a way back for them in the short to medium term. There’s too much wrong with the whole set up at the club. I can't see them going down but they’re a long way from being a force again.
  9. Graham Oates, Graham Hawkins, Mike Hickman, The Don, Stuart Metcalfe bringing up the rear on the right. Could have been from a corner.
  10. Me too, right behind the goals in the second half.
  11. We only miss him because we have to play Beck in his position instead of further forward. Pickering is deeply average as a left back. Beck will be twice the full back Pickering will ever be, he’s got pace and aggression for a start.
  12. You pick your games ! One of the classics, along with the 7-2 demolition of the mighty Spurs.
  13. When I was a kid it was all Spurs, then it was Leeds, then Liverpool. Kids at school in Rochdale being Spurs fans ? I take my hat off to the kids who were Rochdale fans down the years.
  14. Leeds were better on the ball than us at Ewood.
  15. He didn’t have the luck he deserved.
  16. I was expecting a Berkovic or Bohinen style player when we signed Cantwell. The sort of player that says - “ Give me the bloody ball, I’ll sort this out “.
  17. Much as I hate the chicken chokers results like this have been going on as long as I’ve been watching Rovers. In my first season 60 years ago we were drawn away at Fulham in the FACup. We got a good 2-2 draw. On the Monday we drew the dingles in the next round if we win the replay. Come the replay at Ewood a 0-1 shocker in front of a good crowd. Just never turned up. Since then if I’d a £1 for every result like todays I’d be rich.
  18. We’d get over run with Cantwell back there. The lad must be the slowest player at the club.
  19. Howling’ Wolf - The Red Rooster
  20. Before Tronstad arrived I was usually pulling my hair out at the number of free shots opponents had from in and around the “ D” . Quite a few ended up in the back of our net. That doesn’t seem to happen anything like as often now. Of course in could all be a coincidence but I think it’s down the player patrolling that area.
  21. He’s not a bad passer of the ball either. Let’s not forget he’s playing in the hardest position on the pitch. Anybody doubting that - have a go yourself.
  22. Almost any club in this division could be seen as more attractive. None of them are run by idiots like the chicken chokers. The next calamity is always just around the corner. The only reason for him to stay here would be that he’s really unlikely to be sacked. If we’d have gone down last season Eustace wouldn’t have even been near to the sack.
  23. We wouldn’t see enough of the cash to do anything other than get beaten every week.
  24. We’ve got the Leeds away match before the Burnley game. I agree about Travis. He was the one player we really needed.
  25. Gally was 6’4” but who would you rather play against, the likes of Gally or the likes of David Speedie or Paul Dickov ? It’s not how big you are it’s how big you play. From what I’ve seen of Leonard he’s not a physical player, doesn’t really lead the line etc, not a particularly energetic presser etc. He’s a penalty box operator, ok for bringing on like we did the other day when we needed somebody to find a space in a crowded goal mouth.
