  1. There’s a clue for you - Liverpool/ManU away. Not played off the park by managerless Stoke at home for 45 minutes.
  2. Caulker might be the nasty bastard we need to sign to fight fire with fire. Phillips will be playing on Adrenalin as a young player. Sooner or later that runs out and you’re back to playing a 17 year old kid, however good he may become in seasons hence.
  3. If not winning, being hard to beat. At the moment we are easy beats.
  4. That starting 11 was beyond “ Mowbrayesque “ , it was beyond belief. It was guaranteed to see us behind at half time.
  5. Another game lost in team selection ? How more can the coaching staff afford ? Another game were we lost after going behind. Any stattos out there like to tell me how many games we’ve won after going behind since we last got promoted. I reckon It could be counted on the fingers of one finger. That stat tells me all I need to know about the fighting spirit at the club.
  6. Dack as a number 9 ? Really ? That’s worrying me from a managerial point of view. What ever tools you need to play up front on your own, he hasn’t got them. And that’s before he got too cruciate injuries.
  7. Bloody hell. Do I not like that back 5. If there’s a weaker pair of full backs in the league I haven’t seen them yet.
  8. I can’t afford to buy any wine these days, I’ve been following his tipping advice in the football forum.
  9. It’s just like when we got promoted. The massive feeling of euphoria, sell out game for our last match etc - all were dissipated within a few months.
  10. Play Dack up against centre halves directly and you lose his ability to evade his marker and ghost into goal scoring positions.
  11. That never ends well.
  12. I used to work with a bloke who had a big welding rod hammered into the wall above his work bench. Over it was written “ Mistakes I Have Made “. It had about 300 to 400 betting slips impaled on it. I can sort you out with a similar welding rod if you like.
  13. What do they know ? Playing temporarily at centre half will help his development immensely. You get a real understanding of what it takes to play there. That can only help his game as central midfield player.
  14. David Helliwell was going to be the new Bryan Douglas. I saw him make his debut in place of Dougie in midfield. He was really impressive that day but he was very slight and never filled out. He drifted around the lower leagues. Maurice Whittle had a good career with Oldham. Roberts was an Aussie goalkeeper.
  15. That’s a brilliant result given the side we had to put out. Well done boys.
  16. That’s only because they made your glass too big.
  17. I wouldn’t have taken the job in those circumstances. It’s a ridiculous state of affairs. How it should work is the manager says to the DOF “ I’m looking for a left winger, see who you can find “ . The DOF comes back with a short list of likely options and the manager decides if he’s interested in any of them or not.
  18. Mick was a very under rated player. He wasn’t flashy but he was always a steady performer. Never 9/10 but never 5/10 either. A terrier like tackler and he always found a blue and white shirt with the ball. We could do with signing one like him now.
  19. Yeah he started out there before he went to York and then Bournemouth. I’m sure I saw him playing for both those teams at Spotland. He was partnered with Phil Boyer at York I think. When he was at Bournemouth he had Harry Redknapp on the right wing and another good winger on the left. Alf Arrowsmith was going to be a top player but he got a bad knee injury.
  20. Ted McDougall playing for Liverpool along with Ronnie Moran and Gerry Byrne. Some good players in those teams.
  21. I’ve had to do that a few times back in the day. It was usually a booking, never a red card then. I accept things have changed a lot since the 1960’s and 70’s.
  22. I’d have marked his card and bided my time until the away game.
