So we sign Ayala, who is basically a sick note. We got really lucky with Wharton coming through. Centre half is a key position and we were nowhere near strong enough in that area and we still aren't. Signing two kids was a ridiculous move when we needed a senior pro. If we do get relegated this season it'll be because we were weak in the centre of defence more than any other single reason.

It's a worrying time. From a current form point of view we must be bottom of the pile. Unless we can get our act together we're in real trouble. I can't escape the feeling that things have gone badly wrong behind the scenes. Why are we prepared to let Williams leave when we're really stuck for experienced centre halves ? Are the " injured " highly paid experienced players really badly injured ?

I think you're right. I said the other day he only stumbled across the Graham/Dack combination almost by accident.

You can't knock anybody who's still a fan after the last ten years. The " fickle " ones have left years ago.

He knew a replacement for Graham would be needed at least 12 months before he left. I would argue 18 months to be honest. By no stretch of the imagination could you say either of Brererton or Gallagher were capable of playing that role, not now, not ever.
