Gallagher lacked that burst of pace to be a top striker, he was always a clever footballer though.

I’ve never seen any striker score more goals in off the inside of the post. Like Jimmy Greaves he always went for placement and rarely power. RIP Gerd.

No mate, that must be Mike England. He started out at right back for the first team, played a few games at inside right, got established in the team as a left half, made the centre half position his own when Matt Woods called it a day and later on played successfully as a striker in a crisis. The only positions he didn’t play were on the wing and in goal, if Mowbray had have been managing us then he probably would have got a run out on the wing with him being 6 ft 2 ins tall.

Yeah, no matter where you played him he wouldn’t look out of place. Mike England was the same.

Little Oxford Utd away later on in the 1960’s with the best Rovers team I ever saw. Several opportunities in the Jack Walker era when we seemed to get good away draws only to lose the replays at Ewood. I was right behind the Pedersen header at OT. I thought it was going in right until it went past the post.

I agree Stuart, Yorke was a major flop. Not only did he fail to shine but he had a really bad effect on Andy Cole.

Nobody’s saying Carter or Magloire should be regular starters but they would handy to fill in when Ayala goes missing or Lenihan gets suspended. That’s even if we do get a loan centre half in.

I agree, it won’t be the first time we’ve loaned out centre halves and been left scraping the barrel.
