  1. The first time I saw Wharton play it was his distribution that impressed me. He didn't get too ambitious, he kept it down to 20 or 30 yard passes into midfield or to his full back and the passes were nicely crisp and accurate.
  2. We're capable of winning all four of those games after the Barnsley game but we're also capable of losing them all.
  3. Boro are going to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
  4. Our goal difference is worth a point.
  5. Players who can carry the ball like that and pull defenders out of position are a nightmare to play against. I just wish he would do it a bit more often.
  6. Yep the guy who scored their goal looked a handful in the air. Not so good on the ground though.
  7. In 12 years. 1958, 1962, 1970.
  8. I don't mind the leading goalscorer being single minded in front of goal, you've got to buy a ticket to win the raffle.
  9. Looks like we rode our luck a bit there, great goal from Speedo.
  10. Pele Maradona Cruyff Messi Eusebio. Thanks for the memories Diego.
  11. There'll be a reason why the bookies have the game at evens matey. Our inability to overcome gritty teams who come here meaning business.
  12. I'd gave Trybull another game in that defensive role, I'm not sure that's Johnson's best position. Other than that I wouldn't make any changes.
  13. I noticed that from the highlights, we'd no need to get involved when the game was as good as over. " Winners are grinners " and all that.
  14. Just like everyone who's a Rovers fan I'm delighted that he's making a significant contribution on the pitch. I think the sort of " free role " he plays now suits his game. Picking the ball up in deeper positions and running with it, he can do that. Hugging the touch line as an old time winger or playing right up front as the focus of the attack isn't where he wants to be playing. However I'd like to see him making the same sort of impact in the games were we're up against it before I start jumping up and down.
  15. If you look back at the highlights when we break out in the move were Armstrong hits a long shot just over the bar Nyambe is busting a gut to get up into the right wing position in case he's needed. For the Dolan goal although we've broken away down field if you look into back play another Rovers player ( Gallagher ? ) is also busting a gut coming in off the right wing to get involved with play, just in case. That level of effort, commitment, and willingness to make runs when you know you're unlikely to get the ball is all I ever ask of Rovers players. If we can do it against the better teams we'll be in with a shout.
  16. That's what it amounts to, with the full backs operating as part time wingers. Both of Brererton and Gallagher look better players when they're not isolated on the wings and are playing more towards the old inside forward role. From what I saw I was really pleased to see the enthusiasm and willingness to run off the ball. That's half the battle. We were taking the ball on the run instead of taking it stood still.
  17. Ok Barnsley lost 1-0 at home to Brentford last night but recently they've been on the up. They won't be push overs. I'm expecting a really tough game on Saturday. Play like we did against Preston and we should have enough to win. The issue is - can we put in two really good games in a row ?
  18. Maybe Barkhuizen can't play on the right hand side.
  19. Definitely, do that regularly and the goals will come. Stay out wide and nothing happens. He was picked out well though, no thought of a shot at goal, put it on a plate for the lad.
  20. I liked how Dolan was busting a gut to get onto that cross. If you're a winger get right into the box when the ball is on the other flank. That's what he did and he was rewarded with a tap in.
  21. Another idea that hasn't been fully thought through.
  22. I'm not talking about a winning mentality in as much as a " roll your sleeves up and match our opponents physicality " mentality when it's required. He's signed too many who don't relish the physical side of the game. Several guys who have a history of injuries, they aren't likely to be putting it about. We're not aggressive enough both in our play and our manner. If we were a rugby league team we'd have opposition wingers pushing our prop forwards around. It comes directly from the manager, he's signed the players.
  23. We need a few who are prepared to fight fire with fire when the things get physical. I can't think of anyone in our squad that fits that mould now Travis is out. We've nobody who you'd be getting rid of the ball quickly if you heard their footsteps coming up behind you. When we get bookings it's for the pointless stuff like kicking the ball away or arguing with the ref, it's rarely for giving an opponent a bit of a bone shaker. Even Travis came up through the ranks, he wasn't a Mowbray signing.
  24. He hasn't signed the type of players that will buy into that.
  25. It is when it's done properly. We've had some right old rubbish in recent seasons.
