  1. I haven't really the energy to go over it all again. In brief he's a young unproven player that we want to lump a huge amount ( for us ) of dosh on. He could be the next Alan Shearer, but he could be the next Kevin Davies. It's too big a gamble that we don't have to make. You're making a lot of assumptions about this deal on no evidence at all. I like Mowbray as a bloke but he's far from infallible in the transfer market. If he was he'd be managing at a much higher level than Rovers. I think the bottom line is there's something about this deal that doesn't smell right.
  2. I thought our referees might have smartened themselves up after watching their colleagues in the recent World Cup. I thought most of the refs in that were excellent. Sounds like our guys are still giving cards out for nothing.
  3. That Henderson at Rochdale scores a lot of goals considering he's playing for a very average team. I'm surprised he's still there.
  4. Oldham away last season. He did brilliantly to get in up the bye line, took it around the keeper -then hit the post from about four yards out. My mum could have scored from there. Cost us a point for sure, maybe three as it was 0-0 at the time.
  5. That's a good result to top off a very good week for the club. It sounds like we played a lot of good football but failed to take advantage. We need to get better at finding the back of the net.
  6. If he's better than them, why not ? Follow that template and we're limiting our options a lot.
  7. The history of football is littered with boy wonders who just never developed. Big clubs have splashed out for them with very mixed results. Some times you get a gem, sometimes you waste your money. We had a couple years ago with Jimmy Corbett and Simon Ireland. Did either of them ever play for our first team ? We aren't a big club anymore and we can't afford to gamble. If Venkys have broken the piggy bank two of three top class championship players would do us more good than a speculative signing. You'd think that one of those two or three would be a success.
  8. Regarding b) we've already got two in Whittingham and Gladwin.
  9. I'd always take an away draw. I think we might get one today. edit . That was before I saw the team. I don't fancy us with that line up, losing by one now.
  10. Yes but are they any better than what we've already got ? If they are they should be playing . If not why did we sign them ?
  11. Neither of Evans or Smallwood are going to be good enough often enough in this league. That's why I'm scratching my head as to current transfer policy.
  12. At the moment we'd be lucky to get our money back on Samuel.
  13. If Armstrong repeats his Bolton performances his value won't go up at all. Let's see what happens out on the grass, paper talk is meaningless.
  14. It doesn't really matter how we pay for the fee. If it's all we've got I'm not happy splurging it out on one young player.
  15. We were a different club then. If Shearer had have flopped here we would have sold him back to Southampton at a loss and Jack would have got the cheque book out for another top striker. The current team needs strengthening in several positions and we're planning to blow most if not all of our transfer budget on a young lad who doesn't really play in any of the positions that need strengthening. I watched the video and I'm thinking he isn't a Graham replacement and if this lad comes here where does Armstrong play ?
  16. The point I was making is we put all our eggs at that time in one basket with him. And he never played more than a game or two.
  17. Those of us with long memories can recall managers betting the ranch on other young upcoming stars. Jimmy Kerr and Steve Agnew anybody ? Did they play 20 games for us between them ?
  18. I'm not looking at us in a few years time, I'm looking at where we're going to be next May.
  19. Not for me at that price. Walk away.
  20. There's a reason why " he wouldn't be on that much compared to other strikers in the division".
  21. Nearest player to Jimmy Greaves in recent times would be Micheal Owen.
  22. Moving to get rid of them and actually seeing them through the door are two entirely different things.
  23. Another aspect of play then was nobody came to " park the bus ". Teams came to win. If they got beat fair enough but they gave it a go. There wasn't the money in the game then even at the top level so it wasn't a life and death situation as it is now.
  24. Hull away isn't the same as Carlisle away. I expect the usual suspects to be playing on Saturday.
  25. I'd class Tommy Briggs as a centre forward Al. I was really talking about supporting strikers. I was there when Andy Mac got 4 against Spurs. That was some game.
