  1. I don't think Kaminski should come straight back in. Pears was brilliant when he stepped up in January. Since then he hasn't made any 'big' errors but he's also not pulled off any massive saves in the past few games. If anything Kaminski sitting on the bench will act as extra motivation for Pears which will hopefully see him find another 10%. That could be the difference when fighting for promotion. It's also a positive that Kaminski is given time to get back up to speed and that's not to mention the negative effect it could have on the squads mentality if they see an inform player harshly dropped for somebody who is a bigger name. I say let them battle it out. Kaminski needs to win the gloves back and he has the talent to do so. Competition is good.
  2. I'm not the best to comment as my memory is pretty vague, but my memory when he broke onto the scene was that he was raw, fearless and powerful. At that age he was so strong and so fast. The speed faded as he got older. But the other thing which faded for me was his style of finishing. He just put his foot through the ball and leathered it. As well as his power, that's where the Shearer comparison comes from.
  3. I can't believe so many people have got MGP's name wrong. And what's he got to do with getting to Birmingham and back.
  4. You've triggered one of my earlier memories watching Rovers. Seeing him flying at us like a 100 meter Olympic sprinter. We couldn't handle him that day.
  5. I can understand if the games are for qualifying. But it is extremely frustrating seeing friendlies scheduled, especially at this time of the year. The LT says he came off with a knock. Hopefully it was him being smart after receiving a kick, rather than a muscle injury. I can't imagine that sitting motionless on a plane followed by high intensity exercise is good for anyone's body. A recipe for increasing the possibility of injuries.
  6. You had me worried for a moment there but I think it's a typo. The squad i can see on the BBC website has been updated to show Che Adams has dropped out so it is the most recent update. But the still have Jack Hendry in there and he's the player Hyam was called up to replace. Panic over. (Unless you've seen something else that I've not)
  7. He's also been my man of the match in a good few games this season. At times he has looked like he needs 5 minutes to get up to speed when coming off the bench but at the same time he was a big part in us getting back into the game and nearly snatching a point off Stoke.
  8. God I hate international breaks. I'm so bored of waiting for the real football to come back again.
  9. Feel like with all the young players who've stepped into the first team setup we're really struggling at u21 level. Which is no bad thing as the primary goal is player development. Regardless of performance its good to see us picking up a point which could be essential to our survival. That needs to be the only goal between now and the end of the season.
  10. The longer it goes on the more I think he's best suited to staying at Rovers or possibly being at another championship club with parachute payments. Technically he's still quite clumsy. He's a decent finisher though. If he were to play at a higher level I think he'd need to adapt his game to being a number 9 who runs the channels. You can get away with being a nuisance whilst being less technically gifted as a striker. His touch is too loose playing wide and he makes up for that by being brave and direct. Against better defenders he'd have very little success. He is a good, promotion pushing championship player. The buzz around him is fading. Money wise. He's going to want to see a big increase in his next contract. I think he's worth pushing the boat out to say 30k p/w. Then it's up to him. I can see his offers not being of the calibre he may have been expecting and I think he will be in the championship next year (unless we are promoted), I'm just not sure whether it will be with us or another team who offers more money.
  11. At the time it was clearly a very bad career move for Nyambe to move to Wigan. Looking at it now I'm not sure I can think of any move that has been just that bad. Refuses to resign with Rovers on an increased salary as he thought he was worth more. No offers come in. Rovers withdraw the offer. He moves to Wigan on roughly the same amount of money for only one year. Struggles to get in their team. Club are rock bottom and the players aren't even getting paid. Meanwhile Rovers are genuine playoff contenders, possibly reaching the Prem. Even players who make bad career moves are usually getting a decent increase in salary. He needs to sack his agent.
  12. This part to me is what doesn't make sense. We'd be awash with money if we were promoted, coupled with fans being excited at the prospect of Premier League football. That in itself is a golden opportunity to actually slash ticket prices and rebuild our fanbase. Think long term strategy rather than squeezing a few extra £££, especially when those £££ are a drop in the ocean compared to other revenue streams.
  13. There is a trend in international football where you'll be successful if you are cautious and make yourselves hard to beat. To be fair, the evidence points to this being true. The issue will only get worse with Fifa/Uefa expanding competitions whereby the best third place teams can qualify. Do not lose and you can progress. That then sets the tone for the knockout stages. I might be incorrect in saying this but I think Portugal won the Euros without winning a single one of their group games. It amazes me how the powers that be do not consider the impact their decisions has on the quality of their product. Its simply, bigger/more is better.
  14. In terms of the quality Italy possess, individually they're like Italian teams of old with a lot of good defensive players, although past Italian teams had elite defensive players. Going forwards they look woeful. No creativity, or flair players. It says a lot that they had a 23 year old Argentinian leading the line. Would he really have pledged his allegiance to Italy if he thought he had a chance of playing for Argentina... I don't think they're completely crap but they are a very poor side compared with Italian sides of old. It reminds me of England's so called 'golden' generation. Lots of players who can mix it up but completely imbalanced. Those players only looked good at their clubs when surrounded by foreign imports into the Premier League who were far more technically gifted. Mancini literally said this before the match. That kids don't play street football anymore and as a result they are technically inferior.
  15. I think I was watching a different game to most people. I thought the whole thing was poor. First half we only crafted one chance from open play, only for Grealish to slice it a mile wide. Outside of that we got a scrappy goal from a corner after terrible Italian marking and a gift wrapped penalty, again from a corner. I totally disagree with all the superlatives about the first half. In my eyes we simply passed it around with zero intensity and never created any sustained pressure. Italy however were far worse. Second half they upped the intensity and we couldn't keep hold of the ball. Which is no surprise, because as talented as some of our players are, non them bar the front 3 are agile, technical players capable of dropping a shoulder. Trying to tap it around our defense and a midfield of Rice, Phillips and Bellingham (who is phenomenal but still not of that ilk) was always going to result in us losing possession, as soon as Italy pressed us. We got the job done though. As poor as Italy were, it's still not an easy place to go. I just don't think that any aspect of the performance, even the first half was particularly good.
  16. One thing to note for this game is that every team in the top 10 (Watford) are playing each other excluding Burnley (vs Sunderland) and Rovers (vs big club). This round of fixtures literally couldn't be any better. Focus on ourselves and if we get 3 points it will see us making up good ground on the teams around us or increasing the gap between us and 7th. It's a golden opportunity. Edit: Coventry are playing Stoke but where they're in such good form my brain accidentally included them in top bunch of teams.
  17. Whether we like it or not, I think we're in a better the devil you know position with Venkys right now. We have an outrageous amount of debt owed to them, which makes any sale very difficult to navigate and comes with a lot of unknowns. If we look at their entire tenure it's been horrendous which has all been their fault. The bar couldn't have been set any lower. That low bar has gradually risen. Through luck at first, primarily with Mowbray. He brought about a new problem as they finally saw somebody they could trust and was handed the keys to the kingdom, which is no way to run a professional football club. He was a step up from what came before though. Where we are now, is the beginnings of how I'd like to see the club run, but deadline day did highlight there are still incompetent people hanging on in there. Nevertheless this seasons setup is a significant raising of the bar. The issue we always have with Venkys is we are one decent employee leaving, away from meltdown as there has never been succession planning. If Broughton were to leave I can't see us being swift in filling his void. We're also yet to see if JDT would be bulletproof like Mowbray was and Venkys fluctuating levels of investment are always a worry. All in all though, if new owners were to come in, this is the type of setup I'd want to see. The learning process has been slow, but there is evidence it has happened and evidence they have slowly worked out how to find competent footballing people who they're willing to trust. It doesn't mean we forget the past and the damage done, but for me they actually represent the option which offers hope of progression with the least amount of risk right now.
  18. My perception is that it reflects badly on the EFL should clubs fall into administration. I'm sure Sheffield United could avoid that next season if they're not promoted but only with a fire sale on players. As it stands, they have cheated this year. They've spent money they didn't have and have defaulted on money owed. That in itself should be worthy of a points deduction. As a means of saving face, my feeling is the EFL are pushing the issue as far down the line as possible in the hope Sheffield United are promoted, or have the ability to sell assets in the summer. It's crooked as anything.
  19. I thought this too. Ndiaye and McAtee were their most influential players with Doyle smashing the winner. Two of those are loanees. From what I can see it is win or a huge restart this year for Sheffield United. Probably not on the scale Huddersfield have seen but a reliance on loans whilst in an embargo is a risky position to be in. They have 3 major assets of their own in Amelhodzic, Ndiaye and Berger. Surely 1 or 2 of those would have to be sold. The part that sticks in the throat is that Amedhodzic being sold would see them turn a large profit, when they didn't have the funds to buy him in the first place. Well done EFL. The rules make no sense in that only administration sees a club docked points whereas simply not paying your debts doesn't. It's effectively a loan that if spent wisely is a quick way to either make profit or win the lottery of promotion. ----- As for us. On the one hand it's very encouraging that one of our lesser players is our only loan. On the other hand, if we'd played the loan market better, either at the start of the season, or in January we'd be in an even stronger position. Add wisely and play the loan market well in the summer and we'll be looking very promising for promotion. Personally I'd love McAtee. He missed some sitters but he was by far the best player on the pitch after Ndiaye yesterday.
  20. Thought we deserved to win. The Fodderingham double save, Hedges hitting the post, Gallagher having a total lack of awareness to get onto the end of a ball across the 6 yard box. On the ref, he totally bottled sending Robinson off. That changes the game completely. Twice now in the past month we've seen Shef United inexplicably not having a man sent off against us. It was also a stone wall penalty. Thier player did a Schmeichel starfish. On our performance we were good, though worryingly open at the back at times. If McAtee knew how to finish he'd be some player. I'm not going to give Jdt pelters for his subs. Multiple times this season he's switched to a back 5 and we've seen the game out. Conceding 90 seconds after the subs completely scuppered us. I felt their equaliser was more a case of a few players getting sucked into a little scrap and it fell to their fella on the floor who was able to scoop it out. The winner, regardless of laws of the game, Morton should hang his head in shame. He was fine and his rolling around cost us the game. I hope Boro get top 2. I think we can beat Sheffield United in the playoffs. And it would be sweet revenge. Though I'd rather they slip into admin and get docked points. That would be lovely for such a shithouse team who haven't even paid for half their players. Gutted we didn't win, but the game has come at a good time. We can still take confidence from our performance and most the players have a nice break now. Come back firing on all cylinders and the playoffs are truly there for the taking, especially after yesterday's favourable results. Many teams around us are due to play each other in the next few weeks. Birmingham, then Norwich, then Huddersfield and we will be half way there. Disappointing day, but onwards and upwards we march. We'll still be going to Wembley this year.
  21. As Rovers fans, one thing we can't stomach is a lack of effort. 90th minute and Morton rolling around on the floor, one game away from playing at Wembley. The lad had all the time and space in the world to let fly from exactly where Morton should have been. The subs disjointed us, but make it to extra time and we could reset. Mortons a player I won't remember fondly when he's gone.
  22. Yes it does. You commented that if Markanday were not pulling up trees in our u21's he'd have no hope in Aberdeens first team. The majority of Rovers fans will have seen little to zero of Aberdeen, so I've simply given a very recent reference point for people to gauge the quality of their squad, in the form of Clarkson.
  23. As a gauge of Aberdeens quality, Leighton Clarkson actually has 5 goals and 5 assists in 24 starts for them this season.
  24. Absolutely huge win last night. The manner of it, getting a late winner will do wonders for the atmosphere in the squad. Coventry, Norwich and West Brom all drawing was so important, finally creating a bit of a buffer for us. I'd take finishing 6th in an instant, so they're the main results I'm concerned with right now. To know that we'll be in the top 6 going into the international break is a big, big boost. Now we can go and enjoy the FA Cup game and come back firing against Birmingham in April. It really feels as though we come through a portion of the season, take a little mental break from the league and aim to come back firing. Regardless of how this season ends, we and JDT have done a phenomenal job. We're now 3 points better off than we were at this point last year and most importantly have momentum rather than being in freefall.
  25. Is anybody able to clarify when the cut off point for 10 bookings is? I tried searching for it a week or so back and found nothing. Losing either Travis or Thomas for 2 games would be an enormous blow.
