  1. I remember back in the season before we won the league (or maybe the League winning season, I forget), I “acquired” some tickets for the away game at Old Trafford through a Bury fan at work who got them straight from Neville Neville. They turned out to be with the United players’ wives and an injured Dion Dublin in one corner. We were robbed that day with a Paul Ince equaliser in Fergie time from a corner that never should have been. So I do have a soft spot for Bury.
  2. As an ex HR Manager it seems to me perfectly sensible and good practice to both look to develop your own talent through succession planning and to test the quality of that talent against the external marketplace from time to time. That will obviously take a bit longer than just appointing internally but do you want to do a job well or just quickly? Like most others on here I have no idea about the relative merits of the individuals concerned but recent recruitment seems to have gone well so I’m prepared to trust the interviewers to make a good appointment.
  3. I've been debating all week whether to go tonight or not. I don't have a ticket but I was pretty confident I would be able to get one on the night. I think the weather forecast has made my mind up to stay and watch at home. Right now the Met Office has it as a 60-70% chance of thunderstorms between 5 and 9pm. One big thunderstorm on the ground could be enough for it to be a wash-out.
  4. I was born in hospital in Southport which was then very much traditional Lancashire as is Liverpool, the majority of Greater Manchester and the Furness peninsula including Barrow. It doesn't matter what the people of Liverpool, Manchester and Southport thought about it, up to 1974 they lived in Lancashire. Anyway, whatever boundary you give Lancashire the answer to your original question is still clearly Tom Finney. He could play anywhere and to boot was a wonderful human being. After retirement he would happily come to the opening of a crisp packet if it was in a good cause.
  5. I presume it was Greg Coar, Joe. If Rob Coar (no relation) was there I doubt he would know more than Steve.
  6. There's nothing wrong in raising a point that on this occasion a number of people had to miss the meeting. As it happens everyone had to my mind a good reason why they couldn't make it. You just seem to have used the point to suggest that two members should be replaced. Why two?
  7. Why would I not refer to it by it's name though? The financial rules are known as Financial Fair Play - it seems to me much clearer for anyone reading the minutes. I should call them something else because you have some irrational point to make?
  8. So you want me to write abusive slang in a publicly available set of meeting minutes Vinjay?
  9. Vinjay - of the 8 who were unable to attend the last Fans Forum meeting, two were unable to attend due to illness, two were at a funeral, two had last minute work commitments, one had a family commitment and one was on holiday. All 8 have a good attendance record at the Forum. Which two of those do you think we should replace?
  10. Clearly a turning wicket Matt. They were 77-0 with Onions and Gleeson bowling. Maxwell and Parkinson came on and cleaned them up for 50. Jennings and Davies have got Lancs to 48-0, although Sussex have only just brought a spinner on.
  11. Irrespective of how good a manager Bruce is or isn't I have plenty of disdain for him. This is the man who has walked out of contracts with clubs twice (maybe three times?) and then had the gall to complain that Rovers fans have no loyalty when we were campaigning for Kean to go.
  12. Now you should know Roverite that a calm and reasoned post is not what this thread is about.
  13. Well it's not gone well for me. I knew I would miss quite a number but the count is already 8 home games missed, with no doubt others missed later.
  14. It relates to Vinjay's unhealthy obsession with the Walker Trust K-Hod. What has the size of the company got to do with quality Vinjay? I would choose a smaller company for excellent food.
  15. Unfortunately we're stuck a long way away on Brereton Boulevard.
  16. I too would love to find a way of encouraging more people to take out season tickets rather than picking a few games a season. Everyone these days has lots of other pressing demands on their time, be it working, looking after children, family events or like me being retired and able to travel for longer periods. Tomphil - It would be great to have an incentive for those marginal fans to get them over the line, but any scheme like that would just give an incentive for many existing ST holders to attend fewer games. I can’t see giving fans a good reason to pick and choose working. Another point we have to contend with is all the midweek games on the Sky red button. It’s difficult enough for many to get to midweek games as it is and a real problem for anyone with young kids, so offering any sort of “incentive” is just going to greatly depress actual attendances, further downgrading the match day experience. I would be delighted if a scheme could be found though.
  17. I can empathise with the sentiment and could benefit from such a scheme myself. I already know I will miss several games this coming season as I’m away for the second half of August and 6 weeks in Feb/March. But just offering a free ticket for a future game for any you miss will mean hundreds suddenly unable to get to Ewood on a cold wet Tuesday night at home to Charlton but all wanting to bring a mate to PNE at home on a Saturday
  18. It is the end of June Stuart, or at least pretty much, 1st July.
  19. The only really relevant numbers will be on 1st July, the claim your seat deadline day. For me, and presumably most others, there is absolutely no point in buying before then.
  20. Philip - South Ribble (my local council) has been a basket case for a number of years now. The ruling Tories have been a bickering shambles, including accidentally handing over power to Labour for a few weeks earlier this year. Labour took control in the local elections and presumably the new Labour leader intends a clear out.
  21. They are still going into the Championship, just like I said on Sunday. - see above.
  22. It used to be the decider to see who got promoted - winners of north v south. Last year Rovers lost to Charlton and did not go up automatically (or any other way as we now know). I can’t see the point now that both league winners go up, except it’s another trophy.
  23. The Championship. It’s the equivalent of doing what the men did last year, except of course they had dominated their division for two years before but not been allowed to be promoted.
