I just use the ZapMap app. I think there is the ability in the car's satnav for it to direct you to the nearest charger but I never used it - I preferred to make my own decision. I guess there might also be an issue of whether the information in the car is up to date which is important given the constant change. I think your range estimates might be a bit pessimistic but perhaps that's wise in your situation. I probably would say that you would get better than 130 miles from a 180 miles full battery, but that also depends on your driving style. Just like ICE cars the faster you drive the faster the fuel disappears.

One Zoe must have been a 2017 as we sold it last September after 6 years. I can't remember the exact mileage but less than the one you're looking at - maybe 25K? It's certainly true that the battery had not lost any range when we sold it, but based on the dealer's numbers rather than any manufacturer claims. It was a second car for most of its time with us but for about 6 months it was our only car when my son had his car nicked and he borrowed mine. So mostly it was used for local journeys (up to 50 miles from home). A couple of times we took it down to East London and had to charge on the way. The hour I quoted was based on getting enough power into the car to complete the journey, so was probably to c80%. In any event you should not charge an EV beyond 80% in faster public chargers for two reasons. One, I believe, is that it could do long term damage to the battery to regularly charge up to 100& on fast chargers. The second is that chargers slow down their charge as they get above 80% so it will take longer. In any case, remember that when public charging, you just need to put in enough to get home, both for speed and economy so apart from journeys like bringing it up from Dagenham time is less of an issue. Have a look on ZapMap for chargers near your Mum! Octopus do have good EV charging rates but you need to look at the whole package, for your other energy needs as well. The article gives you a good starting point.

Right bluebruce - back now from a heavy family weekend in the south east - I wasn't too far from Dagenham this afternoon! Ideally with a Renault Zoe you would want one of the newer ones that have a CCS charger. The Zoe that we we had was one of the early ones that only had a Type 2 charger, which meant that you could not do a rapid charge. Not a problem when home charging, when it can easily be charged overnight but a bit of a pain when for example a drive to London meant a stop for an hour to charge. In contrast today we have driven back in our MG5 from Maidstone to Preston - 260 miles with one stop at Corley services for a 20 minute charge. The car was ready before we had time for the toilet and to eat a sandwich meal deal. I suspect though that you might have a Zoe with just a type 2 charger there though. It's fine as long as you are aware of the limitation. On battery range I think your salesman has it about right, certainly for an early Zoe. I would say that the best we ever got from ours was about 210-220 miles and that was only in high Summer. In mid winter it could be down to 130-140. Average around 160-180. Stated ranges are always quite a bit higher than real world experience. We never got anything like 250 from the start. I'm not sure that you're right about further battery degradation. We certainly had none in 6 years of owning the Zoe from new, doing probably less mileage than you will. All the evidence I've seen seems to suggest that battery range is holding up better than expected at first. I tried to put our Zoe through We Buy Any Car - they offered me £3K and I sold it for £6.7K privately! Obviously they will buy any car, but often will only offer peanuts. So, overall I would not be concerned about the battery and if you can live with those numbers you'll be fine. The dealer does sound a bit odd - I don't know if there is anywhere that you can check previous ownership and whether it's been in a serious accident? From your previous posts I have some comments. Firstly bear in mind that electric cars will be subject to vehicle excise duty ("road tax") from next April and at the moment it doesn't seem that there will be a discounted rate for EVs. That might change with the new Labour government but no promises. More positively you might want to look at energy providers who offer cheap charging rates for EVs. Have a look at this article - https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/ev-energy-tariffs/. I'm with Ecotricity and get a rate of 8p per kwh between 1am and 6am, so my home charging is dirt cheap. Ecotricity won't be the cheapest overall - I'm with them for environmental reasons as all their fuel is renewable but charge a bit more than other companies during the day. The car will also be definitely be cheaper to service but probably more to insure. Hope this helps but come back with any more questions. I'm around all this week. I thought about doing this as a pm but thought that the general discussion might be helpful to others too.

Blue Bruce - as we have had electric cars for 7 years and a Zoe for 6 of them I have some comments for you but no time right now to write them. I will post again in the next couple of days.

That’s a bit of a “how long is a piece of string” question. I used to take minutes of meetings as part of my job and many of those were somewhat more contentious than these, so that experience helps. But it can take the best part of a day and because I might have other things to do that could last over a few days. At other times I might be able to finish in a few hours. Hence my comment above that I can’t predict exactly when a given set of minutes can be completed and published.
-
The minutes come out anything from a couple of days after the meeting up to two weeks later. Firstly it depends on how quickly I can write them. I try to be as quick as I can but often life gets in the way. Then the attendees from the club (and there have been quite a few recently) get to check them for any errors or clarifications. This can take a while especially in close season when holidays intervene. Then I give Forum members a day or so to do the same on the final version before they get published on the club website. I will pre-empt any questions about what gets changed by saying that amendments by the club tend to be corrections of fact, amendment of typos etc rather than complete re-writes. One thing I can say about the current management team is that almost nothing of consequence is changed from my initial words. There is hardly anything changed in comparison to John Williams’ days when he would take out whole chunks that he decided he didn’t want to make public. I wasn’t at the meeting last night so I can’t comment on this set of minutes. Back to enjoying a gorgeous day on a Cornish beach.

I still think that Pogacar will be the one to beat, although it’s not quite as obvious as it looked like being in the first few days. Tyrone - the first thing to understand about road cycling is that despite the fact that individuals win races, it’s very much a team sport. In any grand tour there are only a handful of riders that can win, even though there may be better all round riders in the race. For years Peter Sagan was the best rider in the world but he could never win the Tour. Likewise Mark Cavendish could either despite being probably the world’s best ever sprinter.

I know that there have been suggestions about setting up such a group for a little while now but it hasn’t happened yet (or if it has I wasn’t invited!). We have our next Fans Forum next week on 16th, postponed from tonight mostly because of me.

A new if pretty obscure county record that. This Lancs team is the one with the most test wickets in championship history - 700 for Anderson and 530 for Lyon. The previous record was also a Lancs team and also the only other with over 1,000 test wickets.

2024/25 Season Tickets

Matty - you yourself said that last year’s early bird total was 7,300. I would guess that “smashing” that could be anything from 7,500+. -
Oh well that's all right then, as long as you can do what you want it doesn't matter about anyone else in society. As I've pointed out above, over time you will have less and less choice about what cars you can buy on the market. It will obviously be a while before used cars become rare or unaffordable but it will happen. In any event, disregarding all the environmental reasons about moving away from ICE cars, EVs are just so much better to drive. They are a complete revelation.
-
Yes, the figure is 22% for 2024, gradually ramping up so it will be 80% by 2030. For every car that they fall short of the target they will be fined £15,000. How the manufacturers will react to this no one knows as yet but we soon will. Ford, for example, who only sell one EV currently, have threatened to reduce sales of ICE cars in the UK and sell them elsewhere to avoid fines. I guess other manufacturers, who have enough EV models available may well massage pricing to encourage EV sales and depress ICE sales. I would be very wary of buying a Nissan Leaf now. It has been around for a long time now and its technology is somewhat dated. But particularly it uses the CHdeMo system for rapid charging. That's effectively the Betamax version of charging - nothing wrong with it but nearly everyone else uses the CCS system so it's going to get increasingly hard to find the right charger on the road. There are lots of other better options now. Have a look at the reviews on electrifying.com for some ideas.

It was an early version Renault Zoe, which it had to be as it was 6 years old. It had a range of over 200 miles in the Summer and had hardly lost anything, but it could only charge on a type 2 charger. Never a problem for us when it was a second car and we could charge at home but a bit more chalk when we went down to one car and had a couple of long journeys. Hence our change to a more modern, longer range and faster charging car, an MG5.

Actually the 10 minute city (5 minute or 15 minute) is designed so that you can get to everything you need within a 10 minute walk, cycle or public transport journey, not a car journey. I've just been listening to the latest version of The Bottom Line on Radio 4. The British boss of Vauxhall was on and he was pretty bullish about the transition to TVs. he said that Stellantis would have an EV version of all their produce range by the end of this year. It's not so much the 2035 date by when every new car sold in the UK will have to be electric. It's the scaling up from now that will change the market much quicker than that - this year manufacturers will have to sell 22% of total sales as electric cars and it continues to ramp up every year - by 2030 it's 80%. By then it will be pretty difficult and probably expensive to buy a new ICE car. Whilst there are as yet not enough very cheap used electric cars there is already a healthy market at the mid level. we sold our first EV last September for £6.7K. Not a bargain but within the range of a great many car buyers.

They always record two programmes from each location so there will be another one on Sounds.

Not TV but I've just listened to the most recent two episodes of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. They were recorded in Blackburn and some of the funniest I've heard in what is always an outstanding show. Don't take offence to the digs at Rovers - they do them everywhere they go. The Mornington Crescent game in the second episode, played under Lancashire rules is an absolute classic.

I'm not sure where you got those numbers from. Last season we sold 9,116 full season tickets and a further 300 other packages. -
Non-league football
only2garners replied to Bamber Bridge FC's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
My grandad used to walk to Ewood from Club St, by the Hob Inn in the 30s. He had enough money for the ticket to get in or the bus fare but not both. -
Non-league football

My Mum's family were from Bamber Bridge and were all Rovers fans. The level crossing was always the dividing mark - those to the north were North End fans and those to the south Rovers. I suspect that there might have been a Catholic/Protestant split historically. I ended up being a Rovers fan despite not living close to Blackburn, or for that matter Bamber Bridge, due to the family link - Ewood was the first ground I was taken to when I started to show an interest in football. I was at the Czech Republic game but you wouldn't have seen a Rovers shirt as I've never owned one. -
Whoever loses is in financial trouble. Southampton lost £87m in the last year.

No, that’s Camus you’re thinking of.

I should point out that I missed some comments in the minutes that should probably have been recorded re season tickets. There were a number of comments by Forum members about the necessity to make ST prices as affordable as possible in the current economic climate. It’s a point we have made in most meetings and indeed We Are The Rovers have also made in recent times. My error was spotted by one of the Forum members but unfortunately just after I passed them to the club for publication. Happy to set the record straight.
