2025 Summer Transfer Thread. 😂
Exiled_Rover replied to Upside Down's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
He was a very good player in his time, but his legs have clearly gone. He'd be nice as a bench option, but you know they'd be signing him as a regular starter. -

No thanks. Give Toth the gloves or try to upgrade on him. -

If we were a properly run club Hedges, Forshaw, Weimann would all be thanked for their services and shown the door. All way past their best and weak squad players. As we're not they'll all be announced as major signings in the summer. -

Besides popping up with the odd goal he was a passenger when on the field. Simply couldn't keep up with play at times. -
I'd never heard of Montgomery until he ran out at RB for us. He wasn't highly touted at all. Markanday would be a waste of a wage - we should have sold him in January, he's not physical enough for this level. A bit like ACD; you can be as skilful as you want, but it's a boy playing against men athletically. It's painful viewing.

I think the bit at the end in bold is the problem when fantasy squad building. We need to generate millions of £s a year in transfers just to stand still financially - they're going to sell some of our more established stars to do that, so the squad will be even weaker than we fear before we can even think about adding to a terrifyingly weak side.

Tracking our (outbound) loan players 24/25
Exiled_Rover replied to BRFC4EVA's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I watched a game or two of his when he was at Bristol Rovers - he was tidy on the ball and tenacious in the tackle, which is what he's always looked like when he's run out for us. From what I gather, the Bristol Rovers manager (I believe they were relegated and he was sacked) was instructed to play his own players over loanees - so regardless of how good or bad Garrett was, he wasn't going to get much game time. We should have asked that question before loaning him there. I can't comment on his Tranmere loan. -
Carter's injuries have come at the wrong time for him and the club. He was really pushing on for a PL bid - now we'll keep hold of him, I think he's missed his window.
-
That was Broughton's plan - and it makes sense on our budget, but yeah you can't have any passengers in that 18. Hedges, Forshaw, Buckley, JRC et al would have to go.
-
I'm not sure why everyone is obsessed with the CB being left footed. Can he pass the ball accurately 15-20 yards to a teammate? Great, I don't care what foot he does it with.

The catchment area is huge - we have fans from Cheshire and Cumbria. The problem is we no longer market to them - hell we no longer market to fans out of the Borough, even though that's where a good number come from. -
I'd shift him on if I thought the money would be reinvested into the squad. We know it won't be, so you're just serving to weaken the team.
-
Renew Hedges, but sell Gueye. I clearly don't watch the same games as other fans. You're not getting anything for Leonard btw - two long periods out with a back injury, nobody will touch him.
-
Eustace laid it out on the table for everyone to see. He's a snake though, apparently.

It's quite satisfying really as Nixon was really crowing about this coup on Twitter when he was in full Waggott brown-nosing mode. Dennis has been a disaster of a signing and I'm glad he'll never darken our door again -

Only question for me would be how far away the crop of Academy CBs are - I gather we have a few quite good ones. I wouldn't want to block their path by signing Sanderson. If they're years away then fair enough, he's a good squad player. -

You're already down to the bare bones of the support. They'll renew come what may. -

Pretty sure they failed to pay an instalment on Brewster to pay for Ahmedhodzic. -

Pretty sure he was offside too. -
He did, which means there wasn't really one - he's 23 and been an established first teamer for years.

Your end of season summary
Exiled_Rover replied to den's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Before the summer started I thought we'd get relegated this season - we scraped survival by the skin of our teeth and clearly needed serious investment in the playing squad. We knew Szmodics was going and we had more than an inkling that the transfer fees for him, Raya and Wharton wouldn't be reinvested into the squad. Credit to John Park, he did an excellent job with an incredibly limited budget, and provided Eustace with JUST enough options to craft a functioning team: Gueye Ohashi Cantwell Weimann Batth (my player of the season) Beck Hopes were raised heading into January, however, once again the powers that be (whether that's the three stooges or the Rao family) refused to back the manager who, by that point, had absolutely flogged the squad. The inevitable injuries to key players left us in terrible form at the start of the year. Roll on the January window and the predictable disaster it turned out to be which, coupled with a refusal to extend the contracts of key players and the manager himself, ultimately led to the story of the season - Eustace walking out the door to join a smaller, relegation threatened club. Both managers did a credible job (as much as I dislike Ismael, 5 wins on the bounce and 7 undefeated is nothing to be sniffed at) and the players (mostly) played to the best of their abilities. I think they have to take some blame for clearly sulking after Eustace left, but ultimately the squad isn't good enough to challenge for the Playoffs. So looking forward to next season, I'm back in the same boat I was last summer - we need serious investment in the playing squad. We've got to do it this time without Park who left Rovers in November. If the January transfer window is anything to go by I'm not hopeful. -
I think he'll end up at one of the mid-table muddle teams - QPR / Bristol City / Millwall et al on better wages than we offered.
-
He was playing against borderline PL players - they always have him in their back pocket. He simply doesn't have enough in his locker to trouble them. Case in point that shot right at the GK when unchallenged 20 yards out. He should be burying that.

They've still got the PL money - they won't be offloading players to the likes of us. -

Based on the last few games, the big mistake was persisting with Pears. Evidently Toth is an actual GK - they had us convinced that he wasn't because they refused to play him. How many points did Pears cost us AGAIN this season?
