Rovers fixtures 23/24

Rigger… -
I never buy food and drink at any football ground, so I can see Chaddy’s point. For me personally it is all about the game and being amongst my fellow Rovers fans, the highs and lows of those 90 minutes - THAT’S my ‘match day experience’. Obviously plenty of others do want a pie and a pint as one look at the concourse from about 2.30pm until after half time tells you - so of course the offering needs to be vastly improved, for professional pride, for offering a service to those paying good money and yes, increasing revenues. But I don’t think ‘well just watch it at home then’ is the response just because you don’t partake in food or drink there, or couldn’t care less about half time ‘entertainment’. Winning football and/or a good price is what gets people to Ewood, the rest is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.

Burnley are at home on the 4th May, so we’ll be away last game presuming 4th May is the last game of the season in the Championship. -
Well obviously, but a Lancs CCC owned one.

Think so. Cardiff, August 2014. Which is really odd considering we are on A LOT, and Sky pretty much always show a Friday Championship game. -

Nah, Sky don’t do Friday night games at Ewood… just every other possible time and day you can think of! -

2019 last time we had a home game on Boxing Day (with fans). -
Ha he does I believe, he did take me off for a while, it’s great for getting the last word in, which is verrry important on a message board. 😁 Generally though as long as it’s not abusive (and the Mods should clamp down on that sort of stuff anyway), anyone that does that obviously doesn’t have the courage of their own convictions…

Good gag that Phil 😁

It is absolutely pivotal for the future of the club that the pretty much half of Blackburn that has thus far taken very little interest in BRFC, for a plethora of reasons going back decades, does so going forward. In a way we are pushing against an open door as there is big interest in football within the community, just not, as yet, big interest in the Rovers. More and more of our ST base no longer lives in the town and it is always a challenge to keep a scattered fanbase in the tent, the longer distance fan starts by not making a mid week, that turns into not making an odd weekend game, turns into no ST - we need a solid core of Blues within the town. The community engagement the club has undertaken this past couple of years has certainly had a big impact in social and traditional media, I imagine the social media team are cockahoop with the amount of ‘impressions’, Yasir is certainly earning his corn . Though the proof of the pudding will be in a substantial increase of the Asian community through the gates in the short and medium term. I am certainly seeing more Asian young lads in the Blackburn End, families in the JWL than say, five years ago, but it is an improvement from a very low base. Because as worthy (and essential) as the engagement is, it can’t exist merely so Rovers can help to bring the disparte communities of the town together or for online acclaim, as the social media bandwagon soon moves on to something else. A club’s number one aim is to win matches, as that is what ultimately improves football clubs, and larger Ewood crowds containing Blackburners from every single neighbourhood and walk of life will be a pivotal part of that.

Presumably it will be the end of the classic Lancs out grounds when they build that new one in Leyland.

Excellent idea that Leeds 👌

They came back a week earlier on the 13th June last summer as the season started a week earlier (so also 6.5 weeks)… so it’s an ‘extended’ pre season this time in what context?

There aren’t 5000 folk staying away because of Venky’s. We all know that. Of the fans that stopped going between 2010 and 2012 many did so because of the results of their decisions certainly, but most of those fans, if they haven’t ever been back by now, are just long out the habit. However there are also plenty of floating fans out there that would be interested in lower prices. We had 10,000+ ST holders in this division in 2019, so why couldn’t we get to c12k if prices are reduced? PL glory hunters stuff is a red herring, nobody expects PL numbers at any price whilst in this division. But higher than the present pitiful figures? Course we bloody can.

Oh dear 1864 more commercial improvements that never happen, funny that. I don’t worry too much about the more peripheral stuff as a new broom on the commercial side could well look at all this stuff. It’s having such low crowds for so long that is the existential worry. Swag leaving the club urgently needs to happen, but of course why would he leave a number as cushy as this?
