Most L1 and L2 clubs have no real ambition to be in the Premier League, so power grabs and politics up there means bugger all to them as it’s a different planet already. Not going to the wall in the next 6 months is their priority, so of course they’ll be all for it - which makes the opportunism so brazen.

Just play less internationals full stop, then you don’t have to make up a convoluted competition to replace friendlies. All you need is Qualifiers, a few warm up games before a tournament and the tournament itself. Having three two week breaks to the season by November is beyond tedious and the majority of fans dread international breaks from what I can see.

The big rise in CL fixtures from 2024 will be the Super League in all but name.

Personally think the 9 club voting rights part of it has been in there purely as a bargaining chip. Howls of outrage, so they ‘back down’ whilst getting everything else they want - smaller league, competitions scrapped allowing more free time for lucrative pre seasons and CL fixtures etc.
