‘*Enter manager here* admitted/revealed/confessed that...’ It’s just the standard local rag/red top journo style of writing.

Have the landlords of the boozers been consulted? They must be delighted that their supposed representatives are asking people not to come and put decent money behind their bars. All very Royston Vasey...

‘At least he took Burnley to the Prem’ Be a good title for his biography...

Sorry what? I didn't recall a fee at the time, but is that what it was? Looking a the bloke's very patchy career spent largely in lower and non league, on what planet was he worth that kind of money?
-
That's all very well Stuart, but what's it got to do with Alan Shearer?
-
The establishment of those nonsense areas like 'Merseyside' and Greater Manchester' haven't helped Lanky solidarity, unlike Yorkshire that kept most of its boundaries and identity intact.
-
The strength of Lancashire (proper Lancashire) in being THE hotbed of the game in this country, with so many league clubs is also its weakness. If the professional game was being established today and it was done on catchment areas etc, you simply wouldn't have all the Lanky towns getting licenses. We have lots of town clubs, full of heritage, all attracting ok crowds, but with little chance to grow. Plus, a load of smaller league clubs too. Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough on the other hand are the only league clubs in the whole north east of England stretching from the Scottish borders to Leeds. A combined club for the Lancashire towns will never happen, of course, for a myirad of reasons, but it is in theory a great idea.

Difference is Liverpool have no issue in liberally spending 7/10/15 million on unproven teenagers, I would say it's a massive risk for the modern day Blackburn Rovers.
-
Oh I agree. But 7 (SEVEN) million for another unproven kid?
-
Looking at 2018's madcap marketplace makes Armstrong at £1.75million look the deal of the century.

Always annoys me that a lot of Rovers era Shearer is edited out of highlight reels. 'Geordie Hero' etc. WE had the ultimate Shearer, our edition had everything the later version had...plus pace. Injuries robbed him of it, turning him more into the target man that a lot of folk only seem to remember.

Yes boss!

Well I can only apologise chaddy. P.S. can you sort them out on the Kasey Palmer thread while you’re at it, they are not discussing the Chelsea loanee, which is a strict violation to the very clear thread title!
-
Sometimes topics move away from the thread title, so what? If anything happens transfer wise the thread and it’s contributors will be all over it. I enjoyed a trip down memory lane, made a dull thread a bit interesting on a Tuesday afternoon.

That says more about the footballing nous of those people, I would suggest!

I never expected any different away followngs wise. We've just had a season with a load of new grounds, loads of derbies, big boys in a league, going for promotion etc. Going back to mid/lower table at a level we've been used to, at grounds we've played at year after year means they will simply drop back to the standard.

Not sure about that, my impression this summer was that it was all a bit tongue in cheek...

In a nutshell, how we went from English Champions to relegation in 4 years...
-
Me and my Dad came away from Highbury thinking we were on the verge of something, battered them. We played some great stuff in the first half of 97/98, alas 1998 as a calendar year was a disaster for Roy and then Jack made a horrendous decison in appointing Kidd. Jack was spedning big trying to catch up, but it was two years too late
-
Don't blame you one bit, but the reality is that crowds are going to be hit across the board, especially in winter. We have a sizeable percentage of our fanbase that live away from Blackburn and travel fair distances, a decent proportion just won't bother now for night matches, which then starts to impact on how valuable their 23 game season ticket is too. Very short sighted move from the EFL.
-
No, only league games.

Oh I do, well worth a gamble for me, but just not sure TM will...

Excitement and flair, simple as that, our fans have been starved of it for so long that when they watched him in full flow, however fleeting, it was a joy - bums off seat player. Not sure he'd be reliable for a tough Championship season though and as Mogga likes his 'defensive wingers', not sure he'd want him at this level...

Season Tickets 2018/19

Sorry to quote you Rev, but I just remembered this post from the time. Looking at the figures from open day I estimate we've probably sold an extra 1,000 or so. Thinking back to the buzz around the club from Doncaster through to Oxford, for me the club has missed a big opportunity. I wasn't expecting sales of 12,000; it's mid table Championship at best for us at the moment, so it's not going to pour them through the gates, but I certainly had hopes for the 10,000+ that Waggott himself was targeting. But why? - Price? - Delays in getting them on sale? - Has the whole database been targeted to get them back in the tent? - Lack of signings? Combination of them all? -
The bloke should be one of the biggest names in English sport, but show a picture of him to youngsters and I bet most couldn't even name him. That's what hiding cricket away for a decade and a half has done to our summer game...
