  1. Fake? Howard Kendall was here for 2 seasons Asia. We got promoted from division 3 in 1975 and then duly got relegated again. We got promoted from division 3 in 79/80 and remained in division 2 for 12yrs until 1992 (Yes we went Wembley in 87 and lost in the playoffs) Gates down to 5000......It was a period devoid of much success as the record shows. Mowbray got us promoted from division 3! The original point 99? and TS made was asking what is the point if you feel Venkys have taken the club as far as it can go, I made the point that we've had baron periods in the past, I felt abject despair under Saxton, but the point is you support the club, its in the blood.
  2. Gents I hear you, I really do. Todays Blackburn Rovers are much improved on the days of king rat, Agnew, Shaw and Singh. Saying today is different to 70/80’s ignores that fact 5/6 clubs in this league have millions at their disposal, we can’t compete. On a personal level I’ve accepted that under our current owners we have gone as far as we can, regardless of who the manager is.
  3. I respect the views of every poster who wants to change the manager, my view is it will change nothing. If you supported the club during the 70's/80's you'd probably have given up based on your comments above, we couldn't even pay the milkman at one point, it was 20yrs devoid of much success, but we enjoyed some and loved every minute when it happened. If you come to terms with the current predicament, the facts as we have them, then you'll be in a much better place. Nobody on here can change the manager, but more importantly nobody can change the owners and thats where the real problem lies.
  4. 1) As fans of Blackburn Rovers we support our club through thick and thin, good times and bad.
  5. To be honest with you Hoochie after king rat, Coyle, Singh, Agnew, Shaw et al, I'm glad we have a decent guy at the club trying his best for Blackburn Rovers. Will he take us up, probably not, but he won't take us down either, we've reached our level under Venky ownership, its doesn't get any better than this in my opinion, regardless who the manager is.
  6. Nobody on here can actually sack Mowbray Gavlar, the only ones giving Mowbray more time are the owners.
  7. Mowbray will always be judged on here by the Gallagher and Brereton signings, ignoring the Dack and Armstrong rabbits he pulled out of hats, selling them alone would eclipse the money spent on Gally and Ben, he's not done badly in the transfer market as far as I'm concerned. Defensively we've been rubbish, he's changed the keepers, brought in numerous players across the back but he can't seem to get it right, but he's consistently let down by injuries and Lenihan in particular, who is a much better defender than he shows week in week out. We can't compete with the top 5/6 financially, we're looking around for scraps, championship midtable is where we are and where we will remain, I agree with you on that point Gavlar.
  8. When we can't compete with the likes of PNE for a league one midfielder, that tells you the ambition of the club, the ambition of the owners and that we'll be plying our trade in this division for the foreseable future, regardless who the manager is. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/18997262.finances-ruled-rovers-move-league-one-midfielder/
  9. Me too, kit looks late 70’s early 80’s under Kendal, where is that pic taken?
  10. I couldn't agree more, its just that moment in time, very special indeed. You don't need an account to look at this facebook page, hope you've got a spare 2/3hrs! https://www.facebook.com/groups/blackburnnowandthen/
  11. Great contrast Colt. I pulled the photo from 'Blackburn now and then' - taken from Mill Hill flats, Easter fair 1972. I couldn't possible ask Riversider28 for royalties, or could I 😀
  12. My dad said that in 1990 when I told him we'd tried to sign Gary Lineker - 😃 But yes DeeCee, its hypothetical.....
  13. Leeds spent much more than that, you are cherry picking again. But.... If Mowbray sold Armstrong for £30m and reinvested that £30m in players, would you argue he’d spent net zero? Had nothing to spend? Or sack him he’s wasted a fortune?
  14. His record thus far doesn’t support your faith in Hughton, but time will tell marton, you could be right. Again you’re cherry picking, Mowbray has been with us 4+ seasons - Leeds have spent well over £40m in that time, we’re not even close EA.
  15. Like I said, Leeds spent over £40m getting out of the championship, Mowbray has spent peanuts in comparison. You can cherry pick all you like, but the facts remain the same.
  16. Did I read recently that Hughton had only won 4 out of 17 games? He could well be sacked shorty? Why do think they'll be ahead of us with a record like that?
  17. Leeds have spent over £40m on players in the championship since Mowbray has been in charge of us, massive amounts, which puts our mediocre outlay into some perspective. West Brom had pots of cash from the Premiership and Udders and Cardiff are below us in the table, championship sides. The grass isn't always greener sadly...
  18. Go and look at how much Villa spent, how much Leeds spent, Wolves had the super agent and world class players to pick from, West Brom had millions, Cardiff had Warnock and are a championship side, Huddersfield are also a championship side. I can give you 17 teams that don’t fit your sunny uplands narrative year on year, of which we are one.
  19. Or inherit someone else's, who'd be a chairman eh? Notts Forest twisted, Sheff Weds twisted, Middleborough twisted several times, Bolton twisted, Stoke twisted, Sunderland twisted, all failed, some very badly. Be careful what you wish for, another Owen Coyle could be just around the corner.
  20. I think the losses column is more telling than GA column to be honest Sparks. I understand why some want Mowbray sacked, if you can't beat Sheff Weds at home on the back of the season they've had you're going to struggle, we were extremely lucky against Rotherham also, it doesn't look good for our chances of a play off spot. I said he needs time in this league, his players need time to adapt to this league and he's now had that time and despite gradual improvements he's not going to take this side to the next level. All that said, we can't compete with the likes of Watford, Swansea, Norwich, Brentford or Bournemouth, all clubs enjoying the trappings of recent flirts with the Premiership, in Brentford's case massive transfer fees, big wages, refreshing the squad year on year, so that leaves 1 spot on that basis. Reading this thread the alternatives to Mowbray are either pie in the sky or perennial failures, for now I think I'd stick and hope for the best.
  21. Haven't we improved our league position/point total every season we've been in the Championship?
  22. Just watched the first 2 episodes on your recommendation den, funny.
  23. Day of the Hillsborough disaster if memory serves me correctly.
  24. India look like beating Aussies after the debacle in 1st test, should set things up nicely. No Virat either.
