I think I heard recently that England had only won the Ashes back once, since the 1980's, in Australia, which shows how tough and frankly how dominant the Aussies have been over the past 40yrs! Listening to TMS team, the coverage in my opinion has been really poor this time around, they all thought we were nailed on winners and when reality struck, they all spent the rest of the time telling us how bad ‘bazball’ is, as they’d been duped by positive press and media too! I’m unsure what will happen next with the current setup, I hope they keep the same people in post, as the past 4yrs has been tremendous for English cricket, but they have failed at the final hurdle and that may well see a change of the guard. All that said, I’m still looking forward to Melbourne test and more sleepless nights.

Excellent knock from Crawley, a player that has been picked over the past few years with eyes firmly on this ashes series. Australia have 5 of the best bowlers in the world, look at the number of wickets Starc, Cummins, Lyon, Boland and Hazelwood have taken. We have Archer, who is world class on his day, our 2nd highest wicket taker is Joe Root, let that sink in! All the populist nonsense about us being 'under cooked', not enough warm up games etc is rubbish, our real issue is this current crop of players, career wise, have not had enough cricket in Australian conditions. To add to that, I think it was K-Hod who initially called this out and he's spot on, if you don't take catches you don't win matches. I would concur and no amount of warm up games helps with getting the very basics right. Lets face it, in Australian conditions, we are a long way behind this current Aussie team, especially with the ball, its that simple.

I went to see Richard Hawley tonight at Sheffield City Hall. A more humble, down to earth chap you’re never likely to meet, he can hold a tune and play a guitar too!
