  1. Very similar to Algheros, loyal following possibly by people who don't know any better. That said I've never had a bad meal there, but get what you mean about the clientele/bulls head crowd. Bukharra is a cut above, very good, but I need a beer with my curry, so often end up in Darwen, tend to go to the Akash these days after years at the Anaz. I bet that was nice Colin, may take a trip over myself with the old dear, Debs
  2. Couldn't agree more Preston blue, we try it once a year also in the hope its improved, but it never does. Pinocchio’s in Walton le dale isn't bad, recently refurbished with some interesting dishes on the menu.
  3. The salt and pepper squid at Great Village is the best I tasted anywhere, but I still tend to make my way to The Man Lee in Darwen (not the place with the raw chicken by the way) been going for years and love it. Pizza - don't buy it Curry - Trishna Bolton Rd Kebab - Godfather fish n chips - HollyTree, but Oyster and Otter may take over that when I try the shellfish n chips.
  4. It was one in Drawen, I've since given up going because they served me raw chicken about a month ago. How about yours vintage? I got a bit bored with the menu a while back, but the food is always first class as far as I'm concerned.
  5. Never been Tom, but I did read they scored terrible on the food hygene page above, then again my fav takeaway did a couple of years ago but I still carried on going
  6. Went to Mangiamos in Darwen recently, half price pizza and pasta every Tuesday and Wednesday when you buy a starter, avoid the beer and wine and two people can walk away full for under £20. Its certainly not San Carlos standard, buts its much better than Algheros for me. Was told about the food hygiene standards yesterday and anyone who visits Borrocos in Edgerton should take a look before the next visit
  7. Plenty of competition around the area pal, so it will have to be good to attract the custom. Its on the list.
  8. 2 minutes from my house also, which is why I keep trying the place, but I won't be going again. Abbs - Has parmesan and pepper opened up as anything else? Used to like it there, always had fresh fish on the menu.
  9. Being gluttons for punishment, we decided to give Algheros, just of junction 3 of the m65 another go and wished we hadn’t. The place is always packed, the atmosphere is great, the location is great, but time and time again the food is simply disappointing. Ok the pizza and garlic bread was fine, no complaints, but I had Beef Stroganoff from the specials menu, and at £16 you’d expect decent cuts of meat and a familiar sauce, I got nothing of the sort, extremely bland and fatty meat served on the plate like a school dinner. Every time I’ve been over the years I’ve never been impressed, but the numbers coming through the door tell a different story, or they just don’t know any different. Needless to say we’ll not be going again.
  10. We went to Heathcotes bar and grill in Clitheroe last week and I have to say it was extremely poor to say the least. Its on the site of the Olive press, which we actually enjoyed, but was inconsistent in terms of quality and service. As for the grill, we arrived and the place was deserted, the walls are covered with Paul Heathcote awards and qualifications, so settled down to in anticipation. Waitress came over and took the drinks order, everything going swimmingly so far. Debs ordered the grilled fish, which first came in batter, so we sent that back, then basically she got 4 pieces of 2” by 2” fish pieces, cod, mackerel, sea bass and salmon, which was ok, but at £15.50 we felt ripped off, and we’d finished well before her food was returned. My son ordered traditional fish and chips, £12, and the fish was terrible, mostly batter, I got a burger which was fine, no complaints. All in all not a patch on Nigel Howarths establishments and we won’t be going again, shame really as the building is great, setup is great, but food isn’t good enough for the price and the choice locally, puts this Place well down the pecking order.
  11. Mate of mine that went last night, seen him several times now, is raving about Rochina, class act and far to good for reserve level. He's already talking about us struggling to keep hold of the lad after next season, given a pre-season he's going to be a right player. More suited to the David Dunn role, just behind the front two, than an out and out striker, which causes problems in itself formation wise, but a real gem in the making. Pity about the shoulder, but he's not ready for the first team yet apparently.
  12. When Blackburn was a good night out Ciren, terrible place now, run down and not a decent pub in the town centre
  13. I was only talking about Eanam Wharf today, was a terrible hole the last time I went in about 5yrs ago We visited the Calypso Carribean when it was at the Woodlands and enjoyed it.
  14. Agree fully, food is great and consistently so. Best place I’ve eaten of late is The Mulberry Tree in Wrightington, great menu and very reasonably priced. Mulberry Tree I've also rediscovered Cafe Rouge, not really my sort of place, but had 2 great meals there recently.
  15. Really saddened by this news, only saw him in the summer having a meal at a pub on the outskirts of burnley. One club man, captain of England, absolute legend. RIP Ronnie.
  16. Here here, not enough Characters in the game these days. RIP
  17. Went to see Proud Mary on Friday night, a band thats been around since 2000 with different members, but always kept the lead singer. A cross between Bob Dylan and The Band/The verve, a winning combination if I ever saw one. Quality gig at sound control in Manchester, about 100 people there, very intimate and really enjoyable. Saw an unsigned band also, Richard Dutton and the So So’s, good tunes and hope they do well, have a listen on myspace.
  18. Not as good as the Pet Shops boys on the other stage, what a performance and visually the stage show was fantastic. Never thought I’d say it, but I’d pay to watch them live. Tris – sort the tickets pal Agree with Oz also - Mumford and sons are a breath of fresh air, hoping to catch them live soon also.
  19. Can't get over the fact his dads in the band also Love the Mumford and Sons album, not usually my taste but its great.
  20. I heard that also, wonder if its an urban myth or it actually happened? I know my dad and 50 of his mates walked to Blackpool one Friday night after the pubs shut, some time late 60’s or early 70’s. Not sure if it was the game Rovers fans got banned from travelling away due to violence and an ammonia attack on the bpool fans? Or is that a myth also?
  21. FFS every thread...... Anyway, I guess it takes all sorts? I was knocked sideways yesterday when I read the write up on the pack horse Belthorn, 8 and 9’s all the way down. I went several months ago now and have to say it was the worst Italian food I had ever tasted, mate of mine found a piece of metal in his pasta on another occasion , than they did about the menu. Truly awful, but the Telegraph reporter doesn’t think so….
  22. Went to see The Courteeners last Saturday night and I have to say its probably the best gig i've been to at King Georges Hall, they had the place bouncing. The Doves have just been announced playing, lets hope the place can become a regular venue again like it was back in the 80's when everyone played there. The music is @#/?, but the all day sounds good
  23. The Stella isn't bad, not eaten there for years though.
  24. Back on topic I was told recently, that its gone significantly downhill, and the prices remain high. I went about 6 months ago and decided not to eat in the end, as the place was swarming with kids running around the place. Be interested to know what you think should you go, because it’s a great setting, pity if the food is poor. I went to The Toby in Edgeworth last night. We had to wait for a table, which I don’t mind, but once served I wasn’t overly impressed with the food. It was ok but I’d not go out of my way to visit again. Garlic bread Fish soup Mushrooms with spinach and parmesan cheese Chicken and mushroom risotto Greek style Pizza Glass of wine Peroni £52
  25. Was speaking to him just before you took over the Oak, he worked with Debs for a while.
