V’s set the annual budget & then task Suhail, Steve & Rudy with operating within it. If they achieve that objective, they get a very good annual performance review which may have financial rewards attached. If Suhail has said “we don’t need anything..” & V’s said “sounds great” then that’s it 🤷‍♂️

I think it’s really simple…Suhail has said we don’t need to spend. We’ve brought in money, that’s going towards working capital. I really don’t think we need complicated explanations TBH.

There was a time when we sold our top scorer & crowd hero because we believed we could sign someone better to improve the team. We then dropped that strikers best mate to bring in someone better. If you aren’t improving your starting XI you’re going backwards.

Echoing this, a point I’ve made on any number of podcasts where I’ve been asked about Venky’s is your perspective of them is heavy influenced by how old you are & therefore your frame of reference. They’ve been here so long now we have a generation of support that knows no different. I recall in my formative years at Ewood hearing tales of a lost generation of support because of the 1960 cup final ticket fiasco but it meant absolutely nothing to me & didn’t influence me one jot. I wasn’t going to feel angry because of stuff that happened before I was born…I was a kid, I loved football, I loved Rovers, end of. I am acutely aware when talking to fans in their teens, twenties & now even thirties that I give off a Grandpa Simpson “old man shaking fist at clouds” vibe when referencing what we achieved under Kendall & Mackay when we hadn’t a pot to piss in. No money doesn’t mean no ambition. No money doesn’t mean no pride. It means you do things in a more energetic/creative/innovative way to stay competitive. The current board are not imbued with Blackburn Rovers in the way that Bancroft, Keighley, Fox, Jeffries & many more were. Those days are long gone & aren’t returning unless we do an AFC Wimbledon. Sad, but true.

The Cov chairman was clearly star struck & wanted a “big name” - Eustace was never a serious candidate for him.

If he applied for WBA & they didn’t appoint him, more fools them.

I think it’s really salutary to read these BTL comments because it shows that the fanbase has been largely gaslit into accepting mediocrity. The whole “know our place” mindset is really quite deflating. No ambition for better. Ever.
