I suspect the membership of WATR & BRFCS are quite similar but I thought you’d uncovered a way of demonstrating it 😉I’ve seen this “WATR are more representative” line peddled a few times. interestingly, if you were a polling company, to get a statistically significant sample size of Rovers fans to a confidence level of 95% you wouldn’t need to poll that many people. If you assume a home crowd of 15,000, then a poll of just 375 would give you that (with a 5% margin of error). I would therefore argue that with over a thousand active forum accounts, BRFCS is actually quite representative. Although I do accept that folks who sign up to the Forum are motivated supporters as opposed to being randomly selected. But the same observation can be made of WATR.

@Miller11 Duncan - how many paid up members does WATR have, what is the trend ? If your mandate is dictated only by extant members (understandably in fairness), but membership isn’t growing significantly/quickly - (especially in current circumstances) perhaps the only way to grow your membership *is* to change your stance? This is akin to a political party - do you exist to serve only your current members or do you endorse/adopt policies that are more popular - albeit not with your current membership? 🤷‍♂️

The car example is spot on but I don’t believe it's treated the same as in investment in a subsidiary*. Venky’s convert their debt to shares at the end of each season so the capital invested in VLL is growing each season. The worth of that investment & how it’s shown in the ultimate parent accounts is then between them & their auditors in reality. The accounts are supposed to show a true & fair value of course… The only time they definitely have to face facts is when VLL is actually sold. At that point, if the actual sale proceeds are less than the written-down value in their books, then the difference is their loss. *if a practising accountant with knowledge of global accounting wants to chime in, please add to the discussion…👍

No, nobody in the real world does but the accountants in India might want to avoid a massive write off through their P&L until the last possible moment.
