Can't we just ditch the gimmicks and go back to traditional royal blue?
-
You really think the three of them will be enough to carry us through a 46 game season if we harbour any hopes of promotion?
-
Problem position could be centre midfield. Reed & Rodwell gone. Two genuinely talented players who should've played there more. That only leaves Travis, Evans, Smallwood, and the untried Davenport. Smallwood should be moved on but if we dilly-dally this summer there's every chance he'll still be here come August.
-
Friedel was a clown pants at Liverpool until he came here and reinvented himself. With the right management, playing to his strengths, Hart could do a job. However, I don't think we have the coaching expertise to tap into that. We can find better value on the continent.
-
Never recovered after his leg break. Not sure he's what we need.
-
It was theorised that we were putting Leutwiler in the shopping window. No point, his contract's up this summer.
-
Mercer doesn't really help himself. Predicting that we'll smash every game, comparing Mowbray to Kean & Coyle, now grossly undervaluing Dack. He's capable of talking sense but I get the feeling he's on the WUM when he posts stuff like the above.
-
I do think it's going to be Bowyer all over again. We'll spend the summer talking about the pool of talent we have. Just swap Hanley, Cairney, King, and Rudy with Lenihan, Travis, Rothwell, Dack etc. "If only our manager would be more ambitious, drop the excuses, and stop picking his pets, we'll stand a chance of promotion next year!"
-
Apparently ex-Rover and Blackburn lad Frankie Fielding is a free agent this summer. Also Keiren Westwood, who I believe was on our radar couple years back?
-
Probs saving them for final game at Ewood.
-
Biggest test next season will be keeping hold of Dack and Lenihan.
-
Exactly. He's got off the mark, and long may it continue, but undue praise is just as kneejerk as those writing him off, if not more so. Brereton was a big investment for us, and fans can only judge a player from what they see. There was nothing in his appearances that justified the £7m outlay. Most of the criticism has been aimed at the price tag rather than the player himself.
-
Huh? Not denying they had their share of critics (every player does) but A LOT of fans could see Kalinic had something about him, he just wasn't suited to Allardyce's tactics. And there were many calls for King to be in the starting line up.
-
If lessons have been learned this season, I'm happy for Mowbray to carry on. Then again, I remember saying the same thing about Bowyer at the end of 13/14. Sometimes I wonder if both managers are more progressive and attack-minded when there's nothing to play for. The moment it looks like the team could mount a promotion charge it's 'backs to the walls sh*t your pants time'.
-
I think we should pimp Mulgrew to Celtic or someone in the summer and bring in a commanding centre-back. That would give us him, Lenihan, Williams, and bring through Wharton/Magloire.

*insert red & black halves stock answer*

What do we do about Mulgrew in the summer? I don't think his set-pieces are a worthwhile tradeoff for the lack of leadership and stability at the back. Williams is looking a better foil for Lenihan atm. And reductivist as it may be, statistics show we're a better team without Charlie. Of course, Mowbray might feel differently.
-
Always good to win but it's a bittersweet feeling now we have nothing to play for. If we had played like this back in February, who knows where we'd be now. Too little, too late. As much as we'd love the last few games to be a Damascene moment for Mowbray, I still think we'll see the same dumbing down of expectations and stubborn loyalty to the senior pros next season.
-
Basically, he says that Evans & Smallwood are better positionally and stopping counter-attacks, whereas Reed is a headless chicken. I hope @philipl is right and he's just trying to save face, but I doubt it.

The mysterious case of Joe Rothwell.

In 12/13, Rochina made 19 appearances, he scored 5 goals and 4 assists. A better return than Rothwell this season. Rochina was a showpony but he was undoubtedly talented. For a lot of managers though that's a luxury they won't afford. -

My worry is here is that once Travis, Reed, Rothwell have a bad day at the office, and they will, Mogga will feel vindicated for his previous selections and revert to type. -

That's the thing, players like Rothwell are judged more harshly by the manager than Bennett, Williams, Smallwood, Evans, et al. because he's a flair player. Same reason Rochina hardly got a crack here but lots of dross like Lowe, Williamson, Feeney played week in, week out. -

Great result. Pleased that Rothwell and Dack both got on the scoresheet. Will lessons be learned or is this another flash in the pan like Hull?
