  1. Even us Rovers fans who love the club wont join for those wages Chaddy
  2. So because no one on here was naming him as a target then we shouldn't looking? Waghorn? There were many on here were horrifed we were looking at, now you are giving him as an example of someone of better value We looked at McGinn we were blasted out of the water by Villa on wages and it is possible we looked at Bamford with the same out come. Looks like they are spending less on fees but higher on wages. At the end of the player's contract the outlay will have been the same or even higher. High earning players have cost this club dear in the past and it does appear we have a rigid wage structure in place. Grabban could get you goals but £ 6 million for a 30 year old is a gamble. If he fires Forest up then its money well spent what happens if Forest don't go up? Will there any chance of getting back on a 31 year old? Marriott and Baldack time will tell and do look good value compared to Bereton. The price we are looking at does look steep and I'm very aware of recent history but if Venky's were to pull the plug again it does not matter if the money has spent on one, two, three or four players it will still be pulled and we'd still be in debt. I'm not a huge fan of Mowbray because of his over cautious approach at times. At times during the summer it appears it has cost us in the transfer market. It seems very strange that he has gone out on a limb on this one player. Why?
  3. When we signed Dack some Rovers fans said it. Dack had had a terrible season for Gillingham after winning the league 1 player of ther year the year previously. The amount is irrelevant the principal was the same in that it was the majority of a budget that many said was not there.
  4. Those saying if the player is a flop then Venky's may turn the tap off well what happens if we don't spend it? Venky's may turn the tap off thinking we don't need it. What happens if the Bereton does not move and gets in to the Forest team does well then goes for £20million. Will the doom mongers then turn and say say why did we not pay the bargain of £8 million. All transfers are a gamble that may or may not come off. We have to be cautious of course but it nice to see us even talking about such vaules being talked about again. The way Dack has started the season the £750,000 we gambled on a one season wonder at Gillingham looks like it could repay 10 times over like the the money we gambled on Davies cost us £3 million. Proven goal scorers who we could get a return on are only interested in premier league. All the multi million pound players I dare say will be a calculated gamble or are players there will be little return on.
  5. Not the first time that Bennett has missed simple tap ins. At least this time it didn't cost us.
  6. Thats the gamble in the transfer market but if manager's worried about that they never sign anyone.
  7. To be fair, LAmbert never met them at all. He was hired by their British representative and was only dealing with him. He made promises that were not met. Lambert has made a fair few quid by going to clubs mid-season and walking at the end of that season so his stock is now badly tarnished.
  8. Genuine question - which prolific strikers are going to be available on loan? It is going to be an unproven or journey man.
  9. I actually think that although Smallwood did get pulled out of position easily I think Mowbray got his tactics wrong in the first half playing too wide. Once both Palmer and Bennett played a little narrower in the 2nd half we started to get a stranglehold of the game. The sacrifice in width though caused us problems as the full backs need to get forward quicker. Rothwell looked OK for 10 minutes then disappeared and am not sure of Palmer as he looked like a player who will beat a player once then try and beat them again. He needs to concentrate on the basics first.
  10. For Gestede to have a chance of being a success we need wingers who can cross. We haven't that type of player so best to avoid especially with his injury record.
  11. Edwards and Harrison looked impressive against us I agree but Nolan had a poor game at Ewood and if Nsiala played that day then it appears he'll get mugged every game in the Championship. I agree that some players could step up but rebuilding a championship team with only league one players could result in problems at Ipswich .
  12. Garner may of been worth a gamble but not Windass. Hurst has already been criticised by his new fans They feel signing only league one players will put you in league one. I still suspect Venky's still feel you can run a club on short term signings, low wages and loan signings as they did on day one. I expected for few permanent sigings but feel we will be busy in the loan market in the next few weeks. I said a few weeks ago that Mowbray got his sums wrong at the start of the summer and had to go cap in hand for more money. By the time Venky's gave the go ahead it was too late.
  13. Neither happy or disappointed as it is pretty much what was expected. The main positive is we didn't sign Jason Lowe.
  14. Personally feel it shows that Evans plays well when we have more than one central midfielders playing. Remember he has played with Jason Lowe alongside him for the majority of the time here. Also Bowyer played him wrong as a holding midfielder when comparing his performances for Hull and his international caps Not the best player but he is one of our better midfielders. Maybe it is a sad statement about the quality of our central midfielders we have/had.
  15. Really?....personally think he is 2 million overpriced and as Tyrone said he blew hot and cold in a lower league last season. A run of games where he doesn't play and starts sulking and wants away then his price will plummet.
  16. and if he doesn't his price goes down....thats the gamble
  17. Why would Mowbray be negotiating with Ashley? Surely this would be Waggott? Stll think if Armstrong and Chapman come back, it will only be on loan.
  18. Where is the last city wonderkid we signed? Last season playing against us at Oldham so I'm not holding my breath. lol.
  19. When the likes of Bournmouth get insignificent fines several years after they had premiership riches means that many championship clubs are ignoring FFP rules in the pursuit of the premiership. If FFP is to work it needs enforcing properly not just banning a couple of clubs from the transfer market. As we blew our parachute payments we can't comment on parachute payments spiralling championship prices out of control.
