  1. Yes but there is the crux of the problem when we keep bringing in players to fill spaces which our young players should be doing. Examples las season Tomlinson and Travis not getting bench places but we bring in Harper from WBA to do it. Mowbray has little confidence in our youth. Two more young players arrived this summer to compete with these two.
  2. If this is true, it is further evidence that the Championship transfer market has gone mad and that Mowbray's budget is nowhere near the going rate at present. Not worth a tenth of that.
  3. Of course Venkys have a plan.....it is the same as it always was. It was the same as day 1.....it is crystal clear. It is short term loans, cheap buys £5million a year budget tops. The fact that it was wrong then and is still wrong is irrelevent. Still believe Mowbray and Waggott have added to this by getting their sums wrong for this summer and their original sums have come in within the Raos original plans so the Raos are happy
  4. I accept we don't know the budget, that it how it should be, but the signs are there that things are not going to plan. Mowbray wanted the majority of his signings in place ealry doors but only two have arrived. There is no need to panic yet and if we spend and bring in players in the coming weeks then I'll happily admit that I was wrong.
  5. No but it may have had the possiblity of a bit extra. The charade of coming back and implying there was an adequate budget in place may have been avoided giving us fans hope of a decent summer of transfer activity. By the way I am being realistic in all of this and maybe it was Mowbray and Waggott being the ones being unrealisitic in their budget. We don't have to spend millions more, Preston proved that last season and in this close season but Bolton also proved last season that too small a budget causes major problems.
  6. Why? We are on about first team and his performances for first team not upto scratch. He can be a world beater for the under 23s but if he is not the first team then in today's finances we can't afford him. We need players for first team
  7. Two tap in does not represent being in form. His overall game wasn't up to scratch and his body language at times was just as poor as Samuel's. Granted did not see him in the under 23s but his first team performances were not upto scratch.
  8. So what you are saying is that if the general price of players does not drop we will go into the season with what we've got? I also don't think Mowbray decides what we are paying. He will have given a wish list and a rough estimate of cost. The finance people will then take over. I generally think we've misjudged the market and our buget is too low in today's market. If we had gone for Rhodes on loan for example our estimated budget would be blown on a player we did not own.
  9. Not the quickest to react or over the first few yards. For a tall player he was quick once in his stride.
  10. BOTH. Thanks to the Money floating around in the premiership - average premiership players are overpriced resulting in the overinflated prices cascading down the leagues
  11. Agree about over inflated prices but sad to say if you want a player you will have to pay the going rate. If you don't you dont get the players. If we get a bad start then panic sets in and we'll pay even more.
  12. How many times have we heard of players nearly signing extensions in the past and eventually moved?
  13. It is a bit of mis information that he couldn't win a header. He did win some but he never found a Rovers player when he flicked it on. Another player who would struggle playing the lone striker role
  14. He scored a few goals for us but sadly it was proven time and time again that he was weak in the tackle and was easily out muscled. The game at Oldham where he played up front really showed the weaknesses in his game and sadly he was physically not up to League One.
  15. Just been reading the yesterday's posting on here so sorry to bring old debates back. There were time last season when Nyambe was targeted by the opposition last season but there were also times when Williams was as well. This was because their positional sense is questionable at best. Nyambe did improve as the season progressed as his confidence improved and to call him poor is a little harsh. If we play 3 at the back I suspect this is not going to improve the situation. To move onto the 4th choice centre half, personally I wouldn't be looking at a 31 year old just relegated with Burton. I don't know the player but if we need a 4th choice Wheaton, Platt or Williams are surely fine to cover for the odd game. Signing someone who is happy to be fourth choice is wrong on all levels. If we are signing a new centre half he has to be challenging for either of the two starting positions and then Downing becomes fourth choice. It is the only way the squad improves. Previous managers have signed squad fillers and is why we went backwards. Finally Sam Gallagher is an improvement on Samuel and Nuttall but should under no circumstances be considered as a main striker. He has proved that he can play the wide forward role that Samuel and Antonnson was asked to play last season but was found wanting when he played down the middle.
  16. Just because a club says we put a bid in does not neccessarily means we have. I remember the Southend chairman saying we put a bid in for Stan Collymore which Rovers later denied. Which club is telling the truth? At the time we were a buying club and it was widely believed that the Southend chairman had used this to up the price on his star player. The reporters could have all recieved the same info from the selling club to try and create interest from other clubs in an attempt to up the price. Until both clubs have officially confirmed the story then it is just a rumour.
  17. At Ewood scored a very good goal and looked like he had genuine pace. He really impressed but every player can have one good game in him.
  18. I suspect is what we are finding out is that Mowbray's idea of a working budget for the championship is probably out of date. As a result the bids we had in have probably been laughed out by other clubs. I also suspect that any player worth a look is also being chased by several clubs as there isn't too many good players available. Those players and their agents can then hold on. As the earlier deadline looms they know some clubs will panic and spend silly money so if you were a player or agent why sign early? They will still be sorted by the start of the season. All of this is not good news for Rovers with a relative small budget. Even when the transfer deadline passes and the loan market remains open all this do will increase clubs making loans leaving the loaning club in a position of power and asking silly money.
  19. To be fair they wouldn't be in the finals without Messi
  20. Can't make my mind up with Messi. Is he the ultimate professional in that he only performs for those who pay his wages ie Barcelona or is it that he wants to perform too much for his country that he can't just relax and play.
  21. Problem is Williams isn't a natural footballer. Granted he looked better as a central defender.
  22. Possession is a funny stat in the fact we could keep the ball for 89mins and 50 secs, not hurt the opposotion then make a mistake in the remaining 10 secs and lose 1-0. Passing the ball around is fine but you need to stretch the opposition and this is where pace can come in handy. As Rogerb said we dominated in spells in games. It is just that in the same game for short periods the opposition had spells where we looked all over the place and this is where we need an experienced person in the middle to pull the strings.
  23. I agree but for every team we dominated for 20 minutes, we also had spells where we were dominated for 20 minutes.
