  1. I would be happy with the Gallagher signing. He’s still young and did well in his loan season here despite being part of the worst Rovers set up in decades. I’d guess we’d be laying around £5m for him and apparently he’s willing to take a drop in wages to come here. Raya looks like he’s on his way out of the club. I don’t think TM rates him and that was evident from dropping him from the team for the final few games of the season. I’ll be a little disappointed to see him go as I think he could become a good GK, but equally I will not be overly bothered as I think we can get a more finished article to replace him.
  2. I would be very disappointed if we had signed those five players that Stoke have just signed; they are mid table championship players. I think they've gone down the hard working, championship players route but they aren't going to get them near the top 6. However, our lack of transfer activity, and the lack of activity generally, doesn't give us much to benchmark against.
  3. I’m not too fussed about missing out on Bauer. I think we need to be aiming for better players than that if we have ambitions for the top 6. Is he any better than Downing who we let go? Downing is probably one of the best defenders in league 1 and he wasn’t good enough to get in our team. I think Bauer would fall into that same category but want significantly higher wages than Downing. Players like Grant Hanley are the type that we should be looking at signing. Proven players at this level. All very quiet from us and the championship in general. I think quite a few clubs are on the verge of falling foul of FFP if they spend big this window hence the lack of action so far.
  4. Dack is a top player, that’s for sure. Has he got the hunger and desire to be a top, top player? I’m not convinced he has. I’m not convinced he’s the type to put in extra hours when he doesn’t have to. We see the likes of Travis on Insta putting in the work for next season already, whereas I suspect Dack is more interested in living the party lifestyle over the summer with his ‘celebrity’ girlfriend. He’s perfectly entitled to do that but perhaps it gives a bit of an insight into the different priorities of players.
  5. TM wants some more technically gifted players and more experienced pros to complement the youngsters, so I imagine that's the reason he's keen on Downing. Would he be someone that would start week in, week out? No. Could he be someone that we could bring on as a sub and produce a little bit of quality to open teams up? Quite possibly. If he's our main summer signing then it would be disappointing. If, however, he's brought in to strengthen the squad then he's a decent addition (if he signs).
  6. If it is indeed the same budget as last year, that’s a decent amount to play with. As I said yesterday, I suspect TM will sell one of our assets (e.g Raya) so the total transfer spend may end up being closer to 10-15m.
  7. I strongly suspect the players we end up signing will be players that haven't been linked yet, and we probably won't know a huge amount about the players that we do sign as I think we may try the European market. I'm not sure we would have predicted many of the players that TM signed last summer, perhaps only Armstrong and Rothwell would have been predicted. I would also suspect that the budget will be about the same as last year, either room for one big money signing and several smaller purchases or no big money signing and several decent sized signings instead. I think he may sell one of our assets to add to his transfer pot, possibly Raya or Nyambe.
  8. TM has said it will be a contract until Jan. The wages I have no idea on, but I can’t imagine it will be a huge amount.
  9. I applaud the club's decision to give Gladwin some security over the next six months to get his life and career back on track. He's had an horrendous two years and that must take it's toll mentally and physically. I don't think for one second this is about giving him a chance to get into our team, it's about doing right by the player. He's unlikely to play again until 2020 so that would be many months without any income for a player who I doubt has earnt that much during his career so far. Give him a chance to get fit and play some U23 games on a very low wage and hopefully he can get himself noticed by another club. If we don't do that then his football career is potentially over. I think it would be different if it was a player like Rodwell who has millions in the bank, but this is a player who has predominantly played in the lower leagues all his career.
  10. Back to Scotland would be my guess. Is he going to want to sit on the bench for what will probably be his final couple of years playing football? He’s not getting back into this side, particularly with defensive reinforcements coming in during the summer. A subsidised loan will be the most likely outcome.
  11. Could be the final appearance for a few out there today - Conway, Mulgrew, Smallwood, Rodwell. Dack?
  12. Don’t see Joe Hart coming here for various reasons. Carson is more likely but I doubt either will end up here. The story is probably true in the sense we will enquire about both players. But that’s as far as it will go imo.
  13. I think we’ll almost certainly see some players from Europe coming in over the summer. TM has made big noises about expanding the budget to allow them to watch European games so he has to show there is some pay off from that expenditure. It’s a good idea to be looking to Europe as we can’t afford the top end players in this league so we need to find them in Europe. Pleased to hear him slate our defensive displays this season. It has been woeful and it’s refreshing to hear him pull no punches on that. I would expect one for every position back there. Big season next season. My feeling is we’re going to go for it in the transfer window and then sell off the big players if we don’t make it.
  14. He was good tonight. He made some intelligent runs into the spaces left by their fullbacks which, in turn, stretched their defence and left gaps to exploit. His hold up play needs a lot of work, though.
  15. Maybe two years as that would give him two full seasons. A lot of it is about attitude and desire with Rodwell so I think you need to keep him on his toes by giving him a short-ish deal. It’s well known he’s worth a lot of money so he doesn’t need to play football anymore, so it’s about keeping his interest alive.
  16. It’s interesting reading about ppls different interpretation of the game. I thought Buckley was very good when he came on but seems quite a few fans felt he was a little off the pace.
  17. I think Rodwell has done enough to deserve an 18 month contract.
  18. Very impressive cameos from Buckley and Butterworth - they both look like they’re going to be top players. Buckley looks very good technically and his first thought is to look forward and find a pass, rather than playing a safe backwards or sideways pass. Butterworth looks like he can pick the ball up and take players on. He will be an edge of your seat kind of player. I’m sure there are ppl on here who follow the U23s far more closely than I do, but they look ready to e regulars in the first team set-up. I would be very fearful if I was Smallwood, Rodwell, and Evans. Smallwood will almost certainly be sold in the summer, he can’t even make the squad anymore. With the likes of Dack, Rothwell, Brereton, Armstrong, Chapman, Graham, and Butterworth we have some real talent in those forward positions. Very exciting to watch and it doesn’t feel as though we’re just reliant on Dack now to create some magic, we have danger all over those forward positions. It was a training session today really. Although they gave us stick when we went down, I feel for Bolton. They are a million miles from being even a half decent team and things will probably only get worse despite their new owner.
  19. We have a good player on our hands here. It’s a mystery why he hasn’t been played more. He’s better than Armstrong.
  20. It looks like two cbs will be signed in the summer then. I think TM has given up on trying to turn Rodwell into a CH. He had a few good games in that position but also looked very lost in other games. The “big money” will be spent on a striker I’d imagine. Dack will likely go so we’ll need an “in the hole” player too. Reed will have bigger ambitions than being at a mid table championship club. I can see one of the relegated clubs spending big on him. He won’t stay here. An interesting summer ahead.
  21. Danny Graham will get it and deservedly so. He’s been good all season, whereas others have been in and out of form.
  22. I can see where you are coming from but the fact we have been well clear of relegation all season and even flirted with play off places until the end of Jan represents a lot of progress in the two years he has been in charge. The Coyle team was so far off the pace, it was scary. I’m therefore very impressed with where we are now. I fully expected a relegation struggle this season as I see a lot of “tryers” in our team but not a huge amount of quality. Yes, we spent £10m in the summer and that hasn’t reaped dividends yet but there’s a lot of promise in the players that were signed: Rothwell looks like he has something, Brereton will come good, Chapman is an exciting signing, and Armstrong has shown flashes. No idea about Davenport but he came highly rated. Add that to some of the young players that TM has developed - e.g Nyambe, Raya - and the younger ones he’s bringing through, such as Travis and Buckley, there are clear signs of a plan for the future. £10m is a lot of money by our standards but not a lot by Championship standards. Look at Norwich - they have Hanley and Rhodes who can’t get a kick for them. It shows the gulf in quality at the top and bottom at the moment. He deserves criticism for the past couple of months as it hasn’t been good enough. His performance in the jan transfer market was generally poor, as I mentioned before. The Jan activity has meant that we’ve had no defensive cover for the injuries we’ve picked up and no fresh new energy. Dack has gone off the boil recently and he’s the magic that wins us games more often than not. Without him we have no quality going forward. That has to be addressed in the summer.
  23. TM has done an incredible job this season. It’s a poor squad and he’s got the best out of it for the majority of the season. The players are being found out now hence the poor results lately. I can understand the frustration but there’s no way he should lose his job. He made some big mistakes in January - not buying anyone who could come straight into the first 11 and allowing Downing to leave. That’s coming back to bite us now.
  24. We’re absolutely sinking and the wheels have well and truly come off. Thankfully the number of games are running out and we’ll be just about safe from the bottom three.
  25. Probably already been posted but Nicko is reporting that TM wants five new players in the summer. He’s saying we want a GK, RB, CH, CM, and striker.
