  1. I feel very foolish. I assumed with the new set-up things would be different this time. But they're not, its the same every year, we'll be scrambling in the final days or even hours of the window. Nothing's changed except the calibre of the coach who sadly has to work with what he has got.
  2. We shop in Barnsley, Crewe and Peterborough these days but hope for promotion! Does not compute. We ask why do we have such difficulty signing players every window? Why do they end up somewhere else? The answer just has to be money--both in terms of wages and fees. I don't see anything changing with Venkys in charge. The caching and planning can be top class but you have to have the quality to start with.
  3. And I'll bet that Sunderland can't either. Its taken them longer than that to get out of Div 1!
  4. Well he won't get any 1st team opportunities at Spurs! I think its a matter of agreeing a wage both sides feel that they can justify and then gradually bringing him on. We'll get a big pay-off in the end and he'll be a top star.
  5. Bad guess! I think its people saying what a crap manager we had.
  6. Only 23 though. After 5 years still a very saleable proposition for a centre-back.
  7. You'd have to hope so. Dead loss.
  8. I wouldn't pay £5M for Gallacher but we did!
  9. £7M is too much. He's worth £5M imo. £4 would be a bargain. However Brighton might feel they have us over a barrel.
  10. Didn't want the journey to end too soon!
  11. Not confident about this game at all. Would take a draw right now.
  12. Puts the problem off for another year! 😨
  13. 5 year deal on a decent salary, rising with appearances, would be perfect for us. We'd sell when he's in his early 20's, should he wish to leave, and get a monster fee for him. Win-Win!
  14. I don't think anyone has said we were certs to be promoted and neither has anyone did we will be relegated. However last night was a big come-down and and puts great pressure on the team for the next game. Fans react accordingly and always will.
  15. I don't know if this has already been said ( I never read every post when we lose!) but last night's game was a mirror reflection of the Swansea game. Then we had 30%+ possession and won 3-0, this time we had 65% or possession and lost 3-0. Should we kick the ball to them or into touch when we've had it too long?
  16. OhI get it, is merely another attempt by you to justify the belief that you and others always saw a player in him despite the dire performances and that ordinary supporters who correctly identified a waste of money when they saw it haven't the foresight you have. When Brereton was doing nothing and we had nothing much upfront, the team stagnated. £7m was a lot of money then and spent wisely we might have been up. But no, it was the never-ending journey of Mowbray we had to go on. Now he's a terrific player he's off!
  17. Which you are now saying is "correct"! See below: Correct, which is why it is unfair to blame people at the club for not tying him down to a contract then.
  18. England 42-3. Root just out lb. Anyone provide a reason why Crawley is in the team?
  19. and they were all right on the evidence at the time. The change in Brereton over one season and a bit has been unprecedented in my time.
  20. Probably an interesting couple of hours before the window closes.
  21. Its a serious blow to us though if/when he goes. All that time spent developing him, we got virtually nothing from him for 2 years. Now, when we're expecting a goal from nowhere every game, he's off! If anyone says "time for Gallacher to step up" I think that would push me over the edge!
  22. Yes---no need to panic yet!
