If he's going to be a future star, an England player as is being tipped--yes I would match it. He plays for us for 3 or 4 years and hopefully helps us get promotion. We then get a huge fee for him. As I said, its about investment. Fail to invest in the squad and you end up where we are, losing players for nothing and scrambling around in the final hours of the Transfer Window looking for freebies. Meanwhile even more supporters lose heart and ask what the point is.

What relevance does that have? So we got some right--great. We risk losing probably the best youngster we've developed since Phil Jones. At least we got £16m or was it £20M for him? If we lose Philips are we really expected to say"never mind we kept Haddow!"

Nobody can say that anymore that you can say we'll have a good start. I know which scenario is the more likely though. We have lost several of our best players after all.

If we had the money, we'd still be reaching a decision when the player went off somewhere else. Not to say finance isn't an issue though. Always has been since Venkys rocked up. As has slow and poor decision-making.

But the good first half of the season we enjoyed last season prevented us being relegated!

Its the same for every club but you can't do worse than signing no-one! We miss the boat every year. It'll late be loans again.
