  1. We have to factor in the failure to produce a worthwhile product over the last 10/12 years. The performances on and off the pitch have driven people away. Those who stayed mostly did so out of loyalty, to memory of better days before. Whatever the cost of a season ticket, there has to be a solid reason to turn up. Remember we've had no FA Cup success for a long time till now. That often used to to spice up our season. At last there is something to go for, that will appeal to people who don't usually attend. We're on the up. I would be very surprised if we didn't sell more tickets for next season and arrest what's been a continuous decline.
  2. But the Club does seem to have moved in the right direction for once and at last? Somehow, what fans have been thinking for years has suddenly permeated the admin at Ewood. I'm not getting carried away, just feeling cautiously optimistic that this is a long-awaited attempt to rebuild the relationship with the fans. After so many years some positivity around the Club is returning.
  3. The 4th Round Burnley Cup tie 1958-59 that was abandoned at half-time and rescheduled 3 days later? 1 match but 2 bumper crowds at Ewood within hours of each other! That reached 50000 didn't it?
  4. Not very amicably either at times. One such instance was a game against Liverpool very early sixties. Any delusions I had about loveable Scousers disappeared that day!
  5. The Enclosure ran the length of the ground. So the JW Darwen End was part of the Enclosure.
  6. They've obviously left themselves free to hike prices if we are promoted while keeping faith with existing holders. Seems fair in principle. Not commenting on the price though.
  7. Clearly the club believes a big showing by our fans will assist us to the play-offs. Any season-ticker holder would want that I'd have thought.
  8. or "and by coincidence"
  9. He could do nothing at all for the rest of his life! How can we compete with that?
  10. Didn't know where to put this, not worth a thread of its own. Read an article Phil Jones recently. his contract is up in summer and there's no chance of it being renewed. Before we get upset for him though, he's earned (or better put received) over £42M since he joined united 11 or 12 years ago! It works out at £300,000 per game! What's most astonishing is that, despite his many injuries he kept getting new contracts and always with a significant increase. Inexplicably his last renewal was in 2019 when he actually got a big increase although he'd hardly played at all before this and hardly played thereafter The gravy train eh?
  11. 1) the privilege of watching Douglas destroy teams every week 2) Turf Moor 6th road Cup tie---0-3 to 3-3 3)1995 season 4)Cardif League Cup final 5)Spurs 7-2
  12. Didn't"t agree with that. Morton had a mixed game for me. However don't let that quote from a different article spoil the one you're half-way through!
  13. Fantastic article on refereeing in the Premiership.Great insights. Very long---I expect only Arbitro will read it! https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/mar/21/inside-world-premier-league-football-referees-pgmol-howard-webb-andre-marriner-darren-england
  14. I hope its our turn to choose the ref if we do!
  15. Yep---£100M to finish bottom plus 3 years parachute money.
  16. !969---freezing cold? I took my the fiancé to that game. The swaying on the Riverside terrace that night was frightening. She stood against the barrier and I stood behind her with both arms on the barrier, stiff as ramrods to protect her. Rather gallant I thought! Anyhow it worked!.
  17. Who's turning it into an expectation? I was expressing a hope!
  18. Do you think so? Plenty of women attend our matches, surely some of them are married. More and more Asians are following Rovers but virtually none of them are women. I was merely expressing the hope that that changes with time and whole families are mad about us. What's wrong with that?
  19. At the risk of being a bit controversial, "Asian lads" it was and great to see. Be better when they take their wives and girlfriends with them though. I expect that's s few generations away yet.
  20. Seriously mate, hats off to you! Pity you weren't refereeing!
  21. Absolutely brilliant. Brought tears to my eyes, particularly when I saw a bloke with a rattle!
  22. Priorites for summer, a recruiting team who can identify talent early, dedicated officials who can complete the formalities in time and owners who will sanction the transfers and pay the required wages. Oh---and a sensible ticketing strategy! All that and we would soar.
