  1. I can clearly recall three matches towards the end of the season when the stoppage time was woefully inadequate. We were so much on top in these matches I was sure in my own mind that had the correct time been added we would have won or drawn (the games were Huddersfield, that lot and Luton). There will be times when we lose out by conceding in stoppage time but I can tell you for a fact that Tomasson is an advocate and is giving it his full support.
  2. Has there been an explanation for Markanday's goal celebration yet? He seemed to be on an imaginary motor bike revving it up.
  3. You too Ian. Are you gracing us with your presence for the rest of the season?
  4. It does absolutely but I thought Joe had one of his quieter games by his own high standards.
  5. Absolutely delighted with the win today particularly after predicting Rovers nil scoreline. In parts we were excellent against an experienced West Brom side. One thing I do know though was that every player out in the maximum of effort, a trait Tomosson has imparted into his players. And when you do that you always have a chance. Defensively we were comfortable save for a fifteen minute spell at the start of the second half although in truth that was West Broms purple patch. Our centre backs gave the kind of performance that gets results, they won headers, tackles and some great interceptions through excellent reading of play. In midfield we just about shaded it as Tronstadt showed what an acquisition he is going to be. Everything nice and simple and always available. Leonard was really good and will benefit hugely from his excellently taken goal as will Markanday. Szmodics showed exactly why he is fast becoming a fans favourite with his work rate and attitude. I was pleased that Tomasson went early with his changes and going like for like helped us keep our shape. Adam Wharton needs game time but the pass he played to put Leonard in was world class and not many players would see the run let alone be able to execute the pass. After the summer of discontent it was delightful to walk away from Ewood with a win. Well done JDT who I thought tellingly showed some emotion after the second goal. He is normally placid but he enjoyed that 😂😂.
  6. The problem over delaying restarts has been getting progressively worse and under Mike Riley the referees were advised to manage situations rather than enforce law. Players and managers took advantage of this. Under Howard Webb they now have to do their jobs and apply law more rigidly. There will be some annoyance and lots of moaning but within a couple of months the message should get through. I firmly believe that we, the supporters will be the main beneficiaries. Edit: I forgot to add that the use of towels to dry the ball for long throws has been outlawed. It was farcical at times last season particularly against todays opponents. I think it was this game where Hedges threw their towels into the crowd.
  7. In last nights game two players were cautioned quite early on for kicking the ball away, the second one the ball only travelled a few yards. Significantly there was no more after that. Similarly cautions will be issued for players who stand in front of the ball after their team has conceded a free kick, even if the ball is passed sideways or backwards from the free kick. Every true fan should welcome these instructions but the emphasis should be about consistent application both individually and collectively.
  8. I wonder how the early leavers from the Riverside will cope with the games being extended by extraordinary amounts of time. I don't doubt there will be gasps up and down the country today when additional time is announced but it's something fans will have to become accustomed to. From memory the average ball in play time for the Championship was about 55 minutes last season - that just can't be right so hopefully what seems to some like a sledgehammer to a walnut will sort out the issues.
  9. Time wasting is an area of the game which the vast majority of fans find frustrating. Over the years the cheats have been allowed to prosper simply because the referees haven't applied law. I can recall two games towards the end of the season when we were well on top and pushing for a winner. The added time was woefully inadequate and Tomasson blew a fuse. He said something like "this is the only country where this happens". A close friend spoke to the Rovers players and staff about the changes for the coming season and he said Tomasson welcomed every one. Three players were cautioned last for delaying the restart, another thing Tomasson was in agreement with. If we end up with an extra fifteen minutes in every match it doesn't matter in my view and there will be some collateral damage but the effort to punish the cheats has to be applauded.
  10. A significant change for the coming season is that stadium clocks will keep running beyond 45 and 90 minutes to reflect the additional time displayed by the fourth official. Tonight's game at Sheffield Wednesday should be interesting in this respect as the first game is always the indicator of how law and regulation changes will be interpreted.
  11. Wolves in crisis? Echoes of Rovers here with the manager being misled. Stories like this only end one way usually. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/wolves-julen-lopetegui-premier-le this usually endague-30624754
  12. I thought Hyam defended it poorly too. Neither were in good enough positions to deal with the ball across.
  13. The story goes that the autonomy he had bestowed upon him by Anderson (and sanctioned by the idiots) was eroded by Shebby Singh. He cited interference by Singh in his constructive dismissal case.
  14. The same players are expected to defend set pieces into our box though. And in several of the earlier games Gallagher and Hedges were playing. I think it's a new tactic that Tomasson is looking at and hopefully the data tells him it's not working.
  15. I really hope Tomasson changes his mind on these short corners. In every friendly so far we have taken short corners with a couple of exceptions at Fleetwood. In nearly every one we have sent the centre halves up and the ball hasn't even got into the penalty area. Yesterday on two occasions we have handed over cheap possession to Girona who countered and created chances as our centre halves were marooned at the other end. Similarly the two free-kicks in the second half were poorly thought out and executed. Surely given our striker constraints getting the ball into the penalty area, even for a preferable would be a better option. And whatever happened to the set piece coach we were looking to appoint.
  16. It's the way that managers are misled that I believe causes them frustration. And that particular buck stops directly at the owners door. No marks like Coyle and Kean would put up with it. Managers with integrity won't.
  17. It's a myth. He was going to do it in a Central League game at Turf Mood but the West Brom chairman got wind of it and threatened him with a fine if he did do it. He told me that himself.
  18. What a welcome relief to get on Ewood again and, for a short period at least forget about the nonsense we have been going through recently. I enjoyed watching Girona immensely, really good, quick, incisive play and excellent movement all over the pitch. In truth they were far better than us and our performance didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. Our first goal was well worked and it was pleasing that Szmodics and Leonard were involved in it as I thought they were two of our better players. Getting Adam Wharton in the starting eleven next week for Travis will improve us but our Achilles heel will be scoring goals. I was pleased for Markanday who I thought showed up well particularly in the second half. Dolan is still very much Dolan and just doesn't have any semblance of a football brain. If he won't sign his new deal get shut now. He just isn't good enough to hold us to ransom. Lastly well done to the organisers in WATR, 4000 Holes and BRFCS for their hard work. We ventured around the Blackburn End pre match and the atmosphere despite a small crowd seemed really good.
  19. I could draw up a shortlist right now of managers to replace Tomasson. But how many would come here and join the circus? It's pie in the sky despite what Broughton says. Has he already approached these people, will they come, are they currently employed and will we have to pay compensation (lol)? It's another blag from GreggI think. Should it happen my money is on another jobber who has no professional pride, takes and job and puts up with the crap going on around him.
  20. He strikes me as being honourable but being misled and going public about it isn't a good sign. His stock is high in the game so I don't believe he would hesitate to resign and spend a period unemployed. In my view he is edging towards his personal tipping point.
  21. Pride. He has been misled as was Lambert. I think most principled people (and Tomasson seems to be one) would be seriously considering their futures.
  22. The multi ball system is going to be used but ball boys/girls won't be involved. Balls will be placed on cones in various locations around the pitch so the referee can manage situations better when teams are at it. I have known ball boys/girls disappear when the home team is winning and the game is drawing to an end.
  23. Interestingly at yesterday's game there were five minutes additional time at the end of the first half and eight at the end of the second half.
  24. We too were right behind the Rovers technical areas and I saw the game and performance pretty much your way.
  25. Attitude last night for me. At times he was like a petulant kid.
