Season 2023/24…what’s in store ?
arbitro replied to den's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
How come other clubs haven't been affected by Covid as much as we have? Most clubs reported an upturn in season tickets and commercial income but all Waggott has done is nice behind it. Didn't the errant ones cover all the staff wages anyway? -
Bolton's playoff match with Barnsley is heading for a sell out. They haven't screwed their supporters over though with £20 for adults, £15 for seniors and £5 for kids. There is absolutely no reason why we can't do something similar to them with season tickets. Footnote: I'll wager anything that their Chief Executive isn't on £300k though. How many season tickets do we have to sell to cover Swags wages I wonder?

He should have called him Lopya. 😂😂

I'm not convinced by the Kompany to City theory. The chances are you will be bottom six in the Premier League and if (or when) Guardiola goes I don't think Kompany will have enough on his CV to qualify to manage City. Quite simply in my view keeping Burnley in the Premier League won't give him the qualifications needed to manage serial winners with huge expectations. I believe City will bring in a manager proven at Champions League level. It's not dissimilar to when Chelsea appointed Lampard on the basis of he was a club legend as a player.

v Millwall (a) - Monday 8th May

My nieces brother-in-law was on the coach close to the window that was smashed. It was away from the ground apparently and the Millwall fans piled out of pub to throw things at the coach. My nieces husband said no injuries were reported but lots of people including kids were shaken up by the incident. They didn't get home until the early hours though having had to wait for replacement transport. As usual some Rovers fans were goading the opposition fans. They were singing the West Ham song Blowing Bubbles to wind them up and looking at the anger on some Millwall fans faces it worked. -
Partick Thistle v Queens Park is tonight in the Scottish Championship play-off semi final. Hopefully Partick out the loathsome one to the sword. It's live on BBC Scotland at 19.30.

Would you not agree then that a seventh place finish, FA Cup quarter final and fifth round League Cup is a decent season? In my book we have exceeded where I thought we would be in what was always going to be a season of transition. The successful seasons can be balanced by the five relegations you have witnessed. Being a fan is unconditional to me. Whilst it's frustrating I take the rough with the smooth and have a good moan sometimes. -

How long have you supported Rovers and how many trophies have we won in that time? Of course I want Rovers to win every match but I accept it isn't possible. Therefore enjoyment of the day and occasion is my second priority. Otherwise I just wouldn't do it. -
I have been excited and frustrated by Brereton in equal measure for most of his time here but more recently exasperated by him. I have no axe to grind with him for going, he is doing what the vast majority of us would do. He seems a popular figure amongst the other players which is always a good sign. I wish him well for the future

I was so engrossed in our second half performance that I honestly didn't look at my phone or sense anything from both sets of fans about events at Preston and Swansea. I heard a young lad in front of me say Sunderland were one up but until we were on the train home I didn't know the full time scores, only that Sunderland had won. Unless anything was said to the players from the bench then I don't honestly know how they would have known. On the day we did what we had to do but having the playoff outcome out of our hands was something we couldn't control. The why's and wherefore's of that can be debated but yesterday was a game that I will remember for a long time. I'm sure the players will have learned a lot yesterday playing in such an important game in a frenzied atmosphere. -

A lot of assumptions there. The fact is we came back from 3-1 down to an in probably the most intimidating ground in the country. Millwall played on the break for most of the second half because we were attacking them. It was only after the fourth goal and we brought Ayala on that we sat in deeper. -

What a load of nonsense. This is the Millwall thread and a lot of the specifics were about yesterday. The manner in which we won dispelled lots of myths about bottlers. The vast majority of Rovers fans really enjoyed yesterday and if you didn't then that's up to you. As I said earlier you perhaps need to find another hobby which satisfies you. -

You are entitled to your opinion. Mine is that I absolutely enjoyed the game yesterday, the second half performance and celebrations. If you didn't then I suggest you watch another sport that might get your juices flowing. -

Wow. That was up there with some of the best days I have had watching Rovers. I think the majority of us went through every possible emotion today and that is one of the reasons why football plays such a big part in our lives. I have written several times leading up to the game how difficult it is to play at Millwall with a full house and the fans intimidating the opposition from the first minute. I thought a few of our players froze and at times in the first half and were like rabbits caught in the headlights. Each goal we conceded was down to errors and completely avoidable. I didn't think we were playing badly at all though. Who would have given a carrot for our chances at half-time? I certainly wouldn't but to be fair Tomasson made probably the boldest substitution of the season by taking Travis off and pushing JRC into midfield. All of a sudden we are at it, the pace and intensity which we know we have was back and an early goal set the tone. The rest was just fantastic as we tore Millwall a new one with JRC at the heart of everything both in defence and attack. I was so engrossed in our game that I wasn't even really aware of what was going on elsewhere. There was very little chat on the tube and train home about missing out on the playoffs such was the high we were still on. Once that euphoria wanes I'm sure many of us will reflect on what might have been but right now I'm so proud of the players, management but particularly the fans of our club. They did the club proud today. -

Optimism should be the staple diet of any football supporter, if not what's the point. Today nigh on two thousand Rovers fans are travelling to Millwall and hoping and praying things go our way. We'll know at 5 pm if that optimism was misplaced but until then COYB. 🌹🌹👍👍 -

Tomorrow's referee is Craig Pawson who is a Select Group One referee, on the International list and is very experienced. Every decision against Millwall will be met with hostility from their fans and he will need to be strong and not allow himself to be intimidated. Hopefully we are discussing the football tomorrow and not him. -

Prepare to be amazed 😃😃 Of course we can look back over the season and particularly recent weeks and ask what if but my wider point was that we are still in with a shout albeit an outside one. Who knows what will happen but it will be a nervous afternoon for the four clubs who have a chance. All we can do is control what we can and win. We are due a big slice of luck so let's hope we get our payback tomorrow. -

Dead right. For the first time in a long time we are going into the last game with something to play for rather than some of the meaningless affairs we have had in recent times. Who knows what tomorrow will bring but surely every Rovers supporter has to be looking forward to tomorrow. Otherwise what's the point of being a supporter? -
Of course it's lazy. How much market research is done, speaking to lapsed season ticket holders, advertising etc. The early bird offer must have taken a few minutes to think up after the previous two seasons had almost identical prices. There is no interaction with the fan base to simply see what they need to get the numbers up. Several thousand walk ons in the last few games tells me that the support is there. We just need somebody to drive the club properly and understand the supporters needs. And Waggott just isn't that person.
-
I saw that Bolton have already sold 15000 which is similar to last season despite them not knowing which league they will be in. I think Preston had around 12000 without checking. It's down largely to price. If you check their message boards that will be reiterated. We simply don't know if we would get to them numbers because we just haven't tried. Swag is lazy in my view, he doesn't have any imagination and shows little inclination to increase season ticket sales. He met his financial target for this season and was almost boastful about it which sums him up. We are on course for our best placed finish for years and progressed really well in both cups. We have some exciting young players coming through and a manager who is the best we have had for some time. Far from being in the doldrums we are moving in the right direction on the field. It's off the field where the club is incredibly poor. Your last sentence is nonsense and reads like you are exonerating Waggott using an expression like 'sums up the job in hand'.

I bought one because I enjoy going with family members and given my circumstances I can afford one. My (and lots of others who have also bought them) concern is that Waggott is freezing lots of fans out who can't afford them with his pricing structure and lack of understanding of others circumstances. Many would like to buy the 'product' but simply can't afford it. I complain because I want to see Ewood with bigger crowds and atmosphere.
