  1. You probably won't have had a chance to read it yet SG but Im guessing the 2 pages is like a "tribute" to the Rao's and not the summary of their 15 years of ownership? I wonder what the over-riding perspective on that is in the book? Is it fairly critical or neutral?
  2. Great find. More evidence the ground started at one end just the other side of Granville Rd by Leamington Rd Church. At the other end there's no earthly way it could have stretched any further than where St. Silas's Rd is now.
  3. Someone else mentioned that there was a Rover St named after the ground after it wascobbled over which was later renamed Wellfield Rd as it still is today. Wellfield Rd is a very flat bit but Im guessing it would be slightly further over towards East Lancs Cricket Club than where the pitch was or at least would have marked the boundary of the ground on that side.
  4. I was thinking the opposite about the Ipswich game in that we're finally hitting a bit of form. Ok -I know we should only have been replaying the last 10-15 mins against ten men anyway, but, I think it would have been a lot worse replaying the full 90 mins within a 2-3 weeks.
  5. It's looking increasingly likely it isn't a wind up. If it is, they'll have to knock one up for chaddy - he wants one!
  6. That's the only straw Im clutching on to. The white one shown did appear to have official Rovers branding on it though on the label and at the bottom if you zoomed in.
  7. Allegedly the blue and white one with the "150 years" on the front is unsurprisingly fake but the white thing with the over-sized Maltese Cross is the actual thing. If it is, will the team be wearing it on Saturday?
  8. Apparently O Neill has just withdrawn his interest so you can calm down a bit. Must have been reading your comments! 🙂
  9. It's hardly a surprise Carragher will stick up for O Neill given the fact they have probably worked together as pundits. I dont think O Neil was as bad at Wolves as you are suggesting. Although I do have my doubts about whether reappointing him would actually work on the basis of the general rule "They say you should never go back"
  10. I'm never generally happy going into a game saying Id be satisfied with a point but bearing in mind we beat Leicester I think it would be acceptable in this instance. Would like at least 4 points from the next two games. Not bothered which way round they are.
  11. It seems clear anyway from that picture taken at Alexandra Meadows in 1878 that we've been playing in blue and white halves since at least then if not before. So for at least 147 years of our 150 year history we've played in blue and white halves. And what do we get for our anniversary shirt? A plain white one with no relevance to the Club whatsoever. At this point they must be doing it deliberately to antagonise the fan base.
  12. The fact that there's no real evidence we ever played in white shirts apart, it wouldn't be so bad if it was a genuinely nice shirt like Herbie's 50's and 60's shirts. If it's the white shirt shown on here it looks like something generic Sports Direct would knock out for a fiver
  13. Really? I assumed it was a generic offering from Old England shirts or whatever they are called.
  14. Almost exactly what I said the other week, the ground stretching between Granville Rd and St Silas's Rd with an incline stretching beyond the far end of the pitch. The inaccuracy of the drawing is that the steepness of the incline isn't severe enough and the former Dog Inn is quite a bit further away than it looks on the picture. My only slight query would be whether the ground was slightly further over towards New Bank Rd. as someone else said I think the "Back Alley" was New Bank Rd but I remember the former TSB Bank on the corner of Leamington Rd very well so if these notes are correct, and there's no reason to suggest they're not as they're pretty detailed, we have an exact location. Good work!
  15. And add in the 45 degree slopes beyond the far side of the pitch!
  16. The blue and white one above is surely a hoax but it's an absolute joke that there seems to be no sign of an official commemorative shirt from the Club. Should have put some effort into a nice badge for the home shirt to be worn all season and there wouldnt have been this messing.
  17. No offence, and I know that's not you producing it but £90 and I wouldnt wear that in bed.
  18. Yes he does seem to have stumbled upon the 3-5-2 system more by accident than by design Still - better to be a lucky manager than a good one sometimes.
  19. As regards January, a lot will depend on whether we ever see Baradji and whether or not he's any good. If he becomes available and does OK I'd only really be desperate to add more firepower up front. Maybe a CB if Carter's injury woes continue. An injury to Gudjohnsen and we're left with two strikers who have only registered one goal between them this season. Two strikers needed imo if Gueye is sold.
  20. God - people still moaning about Dolan! Who then do you think then has been more effective for us - Dolan last season or Moreshita (who we spent £2m on) this?
  21. Im not against the appointment of a set piece coach per se but if the game in general is heading down the route of over-reliance on set plays and a return to the prehistoric tactic of hurling a long ball into the mixer then that's regression not progression in my book. What next? Stop fannying about passing the ball around at the back, and invariably giving it away, and get the keeper to launch it long in the general direction of two players up top? Now that's a back to the future change I wouldnt necessarily mind. On a similar note I went to an evening with Sam Allardyce event at Ewood after he was appointed and he reckoned if you could become the most successful team in the League at scoring from free kicks, that would put you tenth on its own. Dinosaur,or ironically now the way some trends are going, ahead of his time?
  22. As regards TGH he's not bad but not brilliant. I wouldnt be chucking my toys out of the pram if we signed him (unlike Forshaw) but I wouldnt be losing any sleep over it if we didnt either. Certainly not worth £20k p.w. if thats what it would take when deciding whether to sign him permanently imo.
  23. Thought Wharton was quite decent myself, tends to get unfairly slaughtered because he's come through the ranks imo. If we'd paid say £2.5m like we did for Hyam people would be a lot more complimentary about him. Thought it was a very good team performance on Saturday with no really poor performances. I was surprised to see VI being critical of De Neve as whilst I dont particularly rate him I thought he had a fairly good first half and I thought we were poorer for the two first half subs albeit you could see why he took Henriksson off being on a yellow. Overall I felt during the first half that for the very first time under VI you could make out a discernible style of play and tell what they were trying to do. Very early days and we're still hovering just above the relegation zone in 19th so far too early to say that lashings of humble pie are needed where Val is concerned but I hope we can continue in the same vein and he can prove me completely wrong.
