I was thinking about Rovers whilst cycling home from work tonight and I got the feeling that Garrett would start tomorrow in the 10 role behind Szmodics. I like Garrett and think he could develop into a useful player for us. Not sure why JDT is trying to turn him into an attacker but your suggestion of him not being quite good enough technically as one of the holding mids seems like a fairly logical conclusion tbh.

Yeah I saw Eddie Howe mention signing Ruben Neves on loan in January, a player that moved to Saudi for £55m and they'll sign him up for basically nothing. They also managed to balance the books nicely with the £30m sale of St Maximin to a Saudi club previously. Not saying that was an inflated price, more that those kind of deals were able to happen whenever they needed them.

Do we need to pay a fee? I can't remember the situation surrounding his contract/club. I thought GB was on record saying we already had a deal in place to sign him up for the long term?

He won't come back here, I'm sure there would be more ambitious Championship clubs that would be happy to take him. He might as well join a promotion/play off push, rather than a mid to lower table battle.

Will it just be Everton that get punished with a points deduction? Surely they have now set the precedent and other clubs will follow. Man City and Chelsea are the most obvious candidates but it just feels like they will both get away with it. Newcastle? Too early to judge Telalovic, i agree. Ennis is a strange one though, something's not right there. He's 24, has over 100 career appearances at first team level, admittedly at League one level, and has made 25+ appearances in the last 3 seasons. He had his fitness issues/injuries but is surely past those now. JDT opts to not play a striker and doesn't always bring Ennis on if we need a goal. Not sure if it's caution with his previous injuries, not showing enough in training or just not good enough?

I don't disagree with what you're saying but the club's hierarchy's only concern is to develop players for a future sale. Results are secondary. 5 strikers on the books (however poor they are) and 2 keepers on long terms contracts suggests that we won't be looking at anymore for either position unless someone is sold.

Left back would be the one position I thought we might have a look at. Not to replace Pickering but Batty doesn't seem to be making much of a breakthrough, so I thought we might be looking at another youth player to bring on.

We've got 5 strikers at the club (1 being Vale out on loan), the manager doesn't play any of them, although I suspect Gallagher would have played the majority of games if he was fit. Any thoughts of bringing in a striker in January will be way wide of the mark. Gallagher the senior/experienced striker (when/if fit) and Telalovic, Leonard and Ennis to keep gaining experience/developing (if JDT ever plays them) with a view of shifting for some profit down the line. Chances of bringing in a Billy Sharpe type (I'm not saying we should be signing Billy Sharpe, just an example name), to come in and "block pathways" are basically non-existent.
