  1. To take a line from Mrs Merton: So Leeds United, what attracted you to a blonde brainless bint with big boobs when you were appointing a TV presenter ?
  2. Wages are high presumably because the playing staff last season was so large - the players let go since the end of last season should see that figure reduce significantly. What it doesn't show is average player wages or the highest earners - do Rovers pay significantly more than other clubs? Swansea and Barnsley showing how it should be done - among the lowest wages to turnover yet both reached the play-offs. Well managed clubs.
  3. With white shorts and white socks with blue bands around the top, that kit is a thing of beauty. If I had my way it would still be our kit today and for all time, never to be changed Rovers are renowned for playing in halved (not quarter) shirts and for an away kit (worn only when the opposing team has blue and white) I always liked the black and red halved kit, (with black shorts and socks IIRC) They would be our 2 kits, and that's it
  4. Blame the Champions League and the wealth of European football which has lured all the best South American footballers to Europe. Apart from 1 or 2 special players it's all robot football now
  5. Harrison Barnes sounds like an estate agent. Harrison Reed was a good player for Rovers - and would have been even better if Tony had played him in the right position
  6. Sad story, Keith Treacy. Reading the article he just wasn't cut out to be a professional footballer He's right about the way the game's gone though. Watch the Rovers title-winning side of 1995, probably one of the last successful teams in the game to employ two old-fashioned wingers who banged in crosses for big strikers to get on the end of. Just doesn't happen now and the game's less exciting as a result. The odd game apart, statisticians and tactical coaches have spoilt it as a spectacle.
  7. Agree with this. As a (much) older fan than most, I don't see the sense in "boycotting". It harms only BRFC, the historic club that has been part of the fabric of the town for more than 140 years, and was here long before the current owners and hopefully will still be in existence when they finally depart Managers and owners come and go but the fans are here forever. This doesn't make me or others of the same mind any better (or worse) than other fans (what does superfan mean?); but making a stand against the current regime by boycotting games helps no one in my opinion.
  8. Alex Davies is in his prime at 26. Lancs shouldn't be losing local lads like that and him describing Warwickshire as "a massive club" (presumably compared to Lancs) is a kick in the teeth.
  9. The question was, did we try to keep him?
  10. I see Harwood-Bellis has joined Anderlecht. Did we try to keep him? Have to say he was one of the best young defenders I've seen in years at any level
  11. Thanks for the insight. Have taken note.
  12. Comes to something when we’re a feeder club for a fourth division outfit like Watford. Well run club these days but for older fans that’s where Watford belong. The best deal would they can have Armstrong in exchange for their board of directors
  13. Yep, they've done the hard years, millions in the bank, and a nice safe well-paid sinecure with no pressure to perform for a few years before they finally call it a day. Rovers Retirement Home .... perhaps that's what they had planned for Brockhall
  14. So what happened to the "superscout" at Legia Warsaw this year? https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/6542130/celtic-john-park-legia-warsaw/ The man is 63. His pensions adviser must be delighted
  15. This is probably the most damning aspect of the appointment. I bet he can’t believe his luck. Tony’s chumocracy of talentless deadbeats who can’t get jobs anywhere ellse.
  16. Good footballer and played for Chorley as a lad Plymouth had a scout in the NW which is how they picked him up The question is how did Rovers (and other Lancy clubs) miss him?
  17. It was good to be at Lord's today, in a big cricket crowd for the first time in 2 years The Covid rules didn't make sense though - everyone told to wear masks when walking round the ground and going to the loo, but no restrictions crammed into the narrow seats and sitting next to strangers Pakistan were poor for the 2nd game in a row (is that their best side?) against England's makeshift team Enjoyed watching Vince, who still looks a class batsman but did his usual trick of giving his wicket away when well set. Stokes played a dreadful shot, as did Salt. Pick of the bowlers for me was Overton, who has a beautiful action to watch from side on. Any decent club player would fancy taking on Parkinson; I assume they pick him because leg spinners are so rare in this country A big raspberry to the Lord's authorities who delayed the start by 90 minutes when it wasn't really raining at all. Frustrating for the spectators and totally unnecessary
  18. The East Lancs 1st XI is local white (10 out of the 11 last weekend). Maybe they're just not good enough.
  19. That was years ago (presumably). Crowds across the game have dwindled since then. East Lancs as a club has declined since then; clubs come and go (like Rovers). Blaming it on racist dogwhistles such as "demographics are destiny" is plain wrong through
  20. I think you've misunderstood. It's not about results, but the contention that East Lancs as a club has declined because (according to some) it's in an area that is now mainly Asian. The fact the East Lancs 1st XI last weekend had 10 "white" players seems to have passed some people by
  21. I have in the recent past and I know both clubs - which is more than you can say You don't know what you're talking about
  22. There's been a few - Rashid (sp?) and Ali of Asian origin have been fixtures in the England teams in various formats for many years. Hameed and Mahood of Lancs have been involved. I expect there to be more as time goes on. They've taken some stick, especially Ali, in racist countries like Australia, where he'd told "he's not English" As far as East Lancs is concerned, we didn't live in the area but ours and our friends' families, like many others, travelled miles to play and watch matches. Folk came from all over Blackburn to watch East Lancs, not just the Revidge area, so the idea that it depends on players / spectators / bar income from that area isn't true. Many other Lancashire League clubs have Asians populations in their environs yet still attract reasonable size crowds, though nothing like the numbers of years ago. Cherry Tree CC is supposedly in an area with a "younger British population" yet its 1st XI photo shows 3 or 4 obviously Asian lads compared to one in the East Lancs team. How does that work? The idea that Asian players don't stay behind to soclalise after a game is wrong too - they do. And a club that depends bar income for its financial wellbeing is not a well run cricket club, as East Lancs plainly isn't at present.
  23. Yes, I realise that but his views, like "demographics are destiny", are little more than dogwhistle racism. Like every failing entity,.......business, country or BRFC.....the problems at East Lancs are down to the way the club is being managed. Where the club is situated in the town and the changing nature of the local populace is irrelevant .
  24. Sorry 47er, this doesn't ring true I've been involved in club cricket for 50 years plus. A senior club such as East Lancs doesn't fail because it's not taking money over the bar., which will barely pay for the electricity and gas bills The primary source of income will come from sponsorship or, maybe a sugar daddy, probably an ex-player who has made good and wants to put money back into his club. This might explain why East Lancs don't have a pro this season A senior club like East Lancs will also traditionally have attracted players from a wide area, not just a small part of Blackburn, so the idea that because it is situated in an "Asian" area (are all the pupils at QEGS Asian now too?) it doesn't follow that all the players are now Asian. In fact, looking at the scorecard from the recent game in which East Lancs lost heavily to Bacup, 10 of the 11 surnames appear to be "British", with only one Asian player. I used to go down the nets at the Meadows as a young lad, and it's sad to hear about the club's decline, but I'd suggest the club is being badly run and needs a shake-up from the top down (rather like Rovers).
  25. Rovers outbid for Sancho. We used to compete with this lot https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57673463
