Rovers V Norwich 22/12/18
jim mk2 replied to Bigdoggsteel's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Norwich have learnt how to win ugly and grind out results. They've also got momentum behind them rather like us last season. And then in Jordan Rhodes there's the immutable law of the ex. Rovers 0 Norwich 2 (Rhodes 2) -
Let's face it, the £7m figure wouldn't be mentioned if the lad looked a player. The problem is, he not only isn't good enough for the first team but the raw potential doesn't seem to be there either. Based on his performances to date, I struggle to see why we would have signed him on a free transfer.

I never mentioned if he were injured - you're making it up again. A tired Graham is better than no Graham on the pitch - look what happens when he goes off. Yesterday was another example. The best manager at Ewood since Hughes is Sam Allardyce. No one else gets near. -

Mowbray isn't the man to take us forward in my opinion. You have to be a tough nut in he warnock mould or a very good coach to get out of this division and Mowbray is neither. Where is the evidence he can solve the continuing defensive weakness ? Why can't he see graham has to stay on the field even if he is tired? Then there's the brereton farce and the poor summer transfer window. So many question marks over the manager I don't see why you have such blind faith in him -

Lift and dust I'm afraid. There have been too many individual errors while the team as a whole has looked rocky defensively all season (and many times last season). Mowbray shows no sign of being able to resolve it. Is he content with "being where we are at"? He needs to clarify that statement because if he's saying this is as good as it gets we as fans should all be worried. -

If "that is where we are at" he should be doing something about it. It's his team and he takes responsibility. If he feels he cannot take the team forward perhaps he should consider stepping side -

A continuing saga. Too many drawn games, points thrown away, inability to see out matches when leading, a lack of ruthlessness to get the job done, because the same defensive frailties are apparent every week and Mowbray doesn't have a clue how to address them. This isn't a great division and a playoff place would surely be attainable with a manager with more nous. The club at present is going nowhere under Mowbray. -
Ambivalent really. Average sort of player in this division who we would need to replace if we had any ambitions for promotion
-
Old story. Lower league journeyman but shouldn't cost £7m
-
£7m plus add-ons, for what? Private hospital treatment to remove the splinters from his derriere warming the wooden bench ?
-
For £7m he should not only be taking Graham's place from day one he should also be looking a half decent player and scoring goals. At the moment he wouldn't get a game down at Pleasington.
-
For £7m fans were entitled to expect more than a bench warmer.
-
For Rovers, £7m is a very large sum to pay for someone who is clearly not good enough at present to play in the first team. We're not Man City or Liverpool who collect young players in the hope that one of them might turn into a good player, we need players now who can make a difference. The Brereton signing as many fans see it makes no sense at all

Absolutely no chance of top 6. The team and the manager aren't good enough. Far too many drawn games we should have won - yesterday was another example -
We concede too many soft goals - even against very poor sides. The defence is anything but "solid"

Poor result in view of how the match went. Can't see us making a tilt at the playoffs - players not good enough and manager too negative. Expect the same against Brum next -
We beat Forest but couldn't get the ball past Shilton, who was in brilliant form. Ian Miller had an excellent game and Garner should have scored at least a couple. Justin Fashanuy got the winner IIRC - one of the few goals he scored for Forest where he flopped after a big money signing

I met Bobby Saxton a few times. He said he considered it a privilege to be manager of Rovers. A very likeable man who did a very good job.

Note on title thread: It's MiddlesBROUGH not Middlesborough. Good club Boro - much like us, working town club with a loyal fan base that has produced many excellent players over the years. Watched them many times in the 1980s when working in the north east. John Neal was manager with Craig Johnston, David Hodgson, David Armstrong in the team Tony won't want to lose and will be a full negative defensive mode. We have a good record against the NE clubs but can't see better than a 2-1 defeat -

Broken legs are pretty rare these days compared to the past when cracked bones were more commonplace. Maybe the tackling technique of the players is better these days and is one reason for the decline but it's fair to say the liberal use of yellow and red cards has made the game less physical and less of a spectacle - not a good development in my view. -
I went to the West Ham replay - fantastic atmosphere on Ewood that night. Queued up to get in the Riverside and missed kickoff and by the time I got in we were already ahead. It was the relegation season - why couldn't we play like that in the league ? Memories are fading but didn't we lose 1-0 at home to Sheff Wed in the quarter-finals ?
-
Yes, letting Byrom go was a poor decision. Memories are hazy but I remember him getting a knock early in a match, carrying on throughout the 90 minutes limping and going on to score hat-trick , was it the 4-0 FA Cup tie with Arsenal in the relegation 1965-66 season ? Good local player from the back streets. Where are his successors? Britt and Gilliver were both crocks when we signed them - what was the club thinking ?
-
Horrible draw - yet again. All those minnows and the chance to have a nice run and we get that lot...away. The FA have never liked us since we beat the Old Etonians in the 1882 Final.
-
Britt had a "wonky" knee when we signed him. In other words, he'd done his cruciate, but we still went ahead and splashed out £25,000, which was alot of money in 1965. West Ham laughed all the way to the bank. O'Mara took Rovers apart in a match at Brentford circa 1971 (yes, I was there). He looked a world beater that day and I couldn't believe our luck when we signed him. How wrong I was.
