The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)

Blimey, who's talking about "promotion"? The aim this season with this squad and under this regime will be to stay in this division and not get relegated. -

There's not many Tugays in football. If the new "lads" are half as good I'll be happy -

We've just signed players aged 37, 33 and 32. The optimist in me says they'll provide much needed experience in the forthcoming relegation battle; the pessimist says we've signed them because no one else wants them and they'll break down with injuries. Have to say I'm looking forward to seeing the new forward pairing - is there any chance we might sign a pacy winger too? -

Don't raise your hopes: you'll struggle to find more than a few posters who'd like him to stay -

Running around to no purpose does not constitute a "work ethic". The last paragraph is the truth. Gallagher would appear to have everything going for him - he's big, he's tall, he's a good athlete, he looks like a proper centre forward yet he does none of the above. The irony is he's often our best defender from corners and set pieces when he's often the first to head the ball away. Perhaps he should reinvent himself as a centre half because I'm certainly finished with watching his pathetic performances up front. Get rid this window please -

Even when fully fit I wouldn't want him in the team. He's doesn't like the physicality of the English game, the heart the size of a pea and not particularly talented either hiding out on the left wing offering very little attacking threat. Cue someone saying he scored a few goals last season. My is contention is that's as good as it gets with him Really, the prospective starting XI next week is so weak it would struggle to say in League One never mind the Championship -

I didn’t realise Ruddy had joined Newcastle. He’s getting on and very average - why would they want him? -

Volunteers to drive him there this evening? There'd be plenty on here -

379 pages and counting. Can anyone point me to the page with the first signing of the window please? -

The Belgian right back, Zeitflug or something, looked terrific on YouTube but turned out to be terrible. Same with Telelovic. I'm very doubtful about this Japanese lad. It's a big gamble, and in the club's present state we cannot afford gambles -

For saki's sake, 200 million seems an awful lot for a unproven player but I hope it comes off we're so desperate for any new faces. It seems he has a yen to play here too. -

Good post. Back in the day 50 years ago we got on the pitch, and it would work again. It’ll need hundreds to do it, stop the game, force it to be abandoned. The global publicity might even get through to Pune. -

A few years ago Watford won promotion to the Premier League with 4 managers in the same season! The club was obviously in turmoil yet the team stuck together and got the results. -

Of course Southgate was lucky; those posts that maintain he wasn't can be safely filed in the bullshit drawer lol He had the easier draws in tournaments but when when the chips were down, he was slow to react and shape games or create victories. His approach seemed to be one of making England hard to beat, which is not the mindset of a great coach and that negativity unfortunately transferred to the players. Southgate created a good culture off the pitch but it takes more than that to be a winning manager. Ultimately he failed. -

As it happens I wouldn’t be against Howe getting the job because he’s a very good candidate but the reality based on past performance of English coaches at national and club level is that the odds on him actually winning a trophy are virtually nil. That’s why England should consider a foreign coach because appointing an Englishman is virtually guaranteeing that the 58 years and counting since the one and only triumph will continue. -

This is old ground I know but that paragraph is depressing in light of what happened in the rest of Mowbray's reign and what could have been possible as Ipswich demonstrated by getting double promotions from League One to the PL. It also perhaps indicates that the owners do have ambitions for the club but they are being continually disappointed by a succession of unambitious managers and officials.. in Tony's case one who wanted to spin the job out for as long as he could in one of his last jobs before retirement -

Interesting comments in the paper today from a French journalist who said when Les Blues play badly the press and fans tend to blame the players whereas here the blame is nearly always targeted at the manager. -

I don't mind a foreign manager at all but an Australian in charge of the England football team is a red line for me. You'd be able to hear the laughing all the way from Iron Knob -

Just listen to your Uncle Jim I think it’s a case of thanks Gareth and goodbye. He gave the national team and the country its pride back through good man management but his shortcomings as a coach prevented him winning a trophy The biggest failure was the Euros final at Wembley on front of our own home crowd and the advantage of an early goal against a very average Italy team. That trophy should be on his CV now but his innate conservatism and lack of tactical nous cost England dear If he wants it and Newcastle will let him go I’d have Howe -

Outgoings are obviously very likely but discussion on possible incomings seems pointless to me.
