  1. McNamee was a proper old school hard man centre half who was instrumental on and off the pitch to Rovers' 1970s revival in the old third division. Sometimes he crossed the line into being "dirty" but players knew where they stood with him and were in for a tough afternoon . I don't think they played in the same team but McNamee and Glenn Keeley would have been an "interesting" centre half partnership. Opposition centre forwards would have got mysteriously injured before those games. Good memories. RIP
  2. Travis is in the best form of his career and will be a big miss for us. Hopefully we can keep it tight at the back again and sneak a goal from somewhere because we're unlikely to beat any team easily with our current impotent forward line. Better to play safe. Hull 1 Rovers 1
  3. Waggott must be worried sick sitting in his multimillion pound home somewhere down south tonight. Eustace making Rovers into the a top-6 challenging outfit wasn't in the masterplan at all. He thought he was getting a manager to keep our heads just above relegation trapdoor. He thought selling the free scoring Szmodics and signing 2 non--scoring forwards, one of whom is among the worst players to wear the famous blue and white halved shirt, would secure his vision This wasn't how it was meant to be. At this rate Rovers could be in the playoffs, and then, horror of horrors, within a couple of games of the Premier League. How can he get his plan back on track? How can he scupper this feelgood factor among the fans? No doubt he'll be working feverishly over the weekend with another plan. Watch this space.
  4. Cracking win, 2 wins in a row against difficult opponents totally unexpected
  5. I should do if more often. Trouble is, I like the atmosphere among the Rovers fans at away matches and it’s always interesting to visit new grounds. Luton and Oxford could be the next ones in the new year.
  6. Very good win, unexpected on form but maybe not because we usually do well in the north east for some reason.
  7. It was only last season we had one
  8. Nope, not this time. The albatross is on domestic duties
  9. We have a good record against the north east teams IIRC - don't know why but we generally do well against them. Boro blow hot and cold so I'm hopeful we could get a draw out of this.
  10. Mourinho said once there was a microclimate at Ewood. Perhaps he was right. One of only 3 matches across the top 4 divisions postponed at present
  11. Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the England match last night - and I wouldn't have said that with the first XI and many of the games under Gareth Southgate. The team were up for it from the kickoff and apart from 20 minutes in the second half and one or two chances, were too good for a very decent Greece team. Hall looks a player
  12. Rock Your Baby - George McCrae
  13. I hope it can be binned. But there's the realism with this team of what it is more likely to happen. Promotion ain't one of them
  14. Ignore the league position, we're not pushing for promotion.... we're really not. This team is is not good enough to finish in the top 10 IMO. I look at today as a welcome 3 points in the season-long battle to stay in this division.
  15. After some horrible results that’s a welcome and unexpected 3 points. It sort of makes up for the Watford game, which we didn’t deserve to lose. The team still has significant weaknesses that need addressing but that’s a big confidence boost today
  16. There you go, goal made by Joe. After all the adverse comments
  17. Johansson looked an excellent keeper for Rotherham in the game at Ewood last season so I'm not surprised he was outstanding tonight. He should have been a big target for the club in the summer
  18. Back by (un)popular demand - the latest edition. This is a poor team in dire form that cannot score goals and is in freefall Can anyone see how we're going to avoid another relegation battle?
  19. Rankin-Costello is strange. He blossomed under Tomasson and looked a potential Premier League player, yet seems to have gone backwards since. Injuries haven't helped of course Brittain had a good game and was one of our best players at Watford last week yet at times he can be a liability. The team's form is dire. Where's the next win (or goal) coming from?
  20. I see Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic are beating the champions, in front of a crowd of about 12,000. Brilliant management and ambition. But too difficult for us apparently
  21. If Sigurdsson is the answer, I’m not sure what the question is. He gets better every time he doesn’t play with some fans but might as well give him a go, after nearly 6 hours without a goal the team can’t do any worse
  22. Another day, another defeat, another abject performance And the realisation it's another season we have absolutely no hope of getting back to the Premier League The years go by and PL seems to a distant memory now. For many of us older supporters, it's obviously not going to happen in what's left of our lifetimes Fans were singing Jack Walker's name at Vicarage Road last week. Watford fans were rightly asking "who?" It's that long ago. The club's a shell of the one from those days. It's all so sad.
  23. It was woeful at Watford last week too. The squad is lacking quality and the manager doesn't have much idea. This lot are unlikely to score in a month of Sundays. I think we'll be near the bottom by the new year
  24. We're well and truly on the slide now. Time for the relegation thread?
  25. Where are goals coming from in this team? None of the forwards look like scoring and the loss of Szmodics is really being felt now. Two new strikers needed in January - good ones
