  1. He’d be ok at amateur level. The semi-pro North West Counties league is too high for him though
  2. It’s certainly not “maintenance” through overuse.
  3. They’re not true wingers in that case A proper winger beats his man on the outside and bangs a good cross in for a big centre forward - classic English football attacking play. For Rovers Ripley and Wilcox were classic examples and going back further Wagstaff and Harrison were others. In the 1960s just about every team had players like these. The modern examples you quote aren’t true wingers to my mind - they’re wide attacking forwards.
  4. I've always avoided Rovers-Burnley matches over the years because of the animosity but I've just found out we've got tickets for this one. My best memory of these matches is the 1965-66 season when Rovers were relegated from the old first division but somehow managed to win 4-1 at Turf Moor. Here's hoping for a similar outcome
  5. It’s wonderful isn’t it? Ratcliffe’s sense of entitlement (“the 11 years since Ferguson retired have been agony” -despite United winning 4 trophies in that time) was really annoying. He doesn’t know what agony is - try supporting BRFC matey
  6. Or maybe the club is ok but he’s not very good? Not surprised by today’s result - Leicester far more likely than Wolves to go down
  7. McBurnie for Ewood? Sounds like a Christmas fantasy story to me.
  8. Millwall game sounds like the last away match I saw at Watford - another one we lost narrowly and probably didn’t deserve to lose. With a low scoring team like Rovers are at present margins are very tight and it only needs one mistake or moment of bad luck for it all to go wrong Clearly Rovers and Eustace got a lot right on the 6 game winning run but if we’re honest some of those games could have gone either way and we’d now be sitting somewhere in mid table instead of 5th The point is, to be successful in this league over 48 games tight margins and a struggle to score goals means we could just as easily follow the 6 game winning run with a 6 game losing streak, and looking at the forthcoming fixtures that’s an entirely possible scenario Let’s hope not
  9. What qualities would those be?
  10. Sweet is the Night - ELO
  11. Pope is the same. One good innings in 10. And they're talking about restoring him to No 3. Same technical problems that get exposed by the best bowlers. England look as fragile as ever, just as likely to lose badly as win easily. Bazball mentality. It's not Test cricket to my mind.
  12. The last direct Blackburn - London train service was withdrawn in 1959 and it's time it was restored. The area's population surely justifies it. Blackburn used to have direct trains to Glasgow, Liverpool, Wigan and Southport, among other places. all long gone.
  13. Good luck with your 6-hour journey from hell to the New Den. I'll be having a snooze or relaxing with a cup of tea watching the countryside go by.
  14. £80 with a 16-30 railcard or senior railcard; better than missing the match because of hold-ups on the M6, M1 and the nightmare of getting across the smoke to sarf London
  15. England capitulated pretty quickly as expected. They must have had more important things on their mind. What time were they teeing off in the afternoon?
  16. Aaarrggh, someone mentioned Big Sam - cue all those who say we were right to sack him but replaced him with the wrong guy trying to justify their opinions. I still say his sacking was the worst move this club has ever made Eustace won't go to the Premier League - boards will look at his painful TV interviews and a playing style that is straight out of the Pulis playbook, and will shy away. He's the perfect fit for Rovers at the moment - and I think he knows it.
  17. Crawley is a walking wicket. Time to go, one good innings in 10 isn’t good enough. Stokes injured again too.
  18. I very much doubt Wolves will go for Eustace. The fans are a vocal lot who make their feelings known and would be totally underwhelmed for one. Mr Charisma he isn't. Wolves are almost certain to pick another foreign coach and I'm sure have him lined up already Although Eustace took us close to relegation last season and you do have to wonder about his communication skills because he makes for a dreadful interviewee, you can't argue with the job he's done so far this season and there's no doubt he's got the Rovers players playing for him.
  19. No. they'd be barmy owing to his lack of PL experience and I'm sure Wolves fans would be totally underwhelmed. John who? And if they did I'd welcome O'Neil at Ewood. He was treated badly by Bournemouth and his teams play good, attacking football.
  20. England showing the same old weaknesses - their continuing failure to bowl out the tail-enders, NZ's last 3 put on more than 100 runs owing to a daft strategy of bowling bouncers at them, and a lack of ruthlessness against a struggling team. I know England have won the series but why not go for the 3-0 and give notice of intent with series against India and Australia on the horizon. Poor effort.
  21. I ain't shutting the relegation thread yet
  22. That's not good. Should be around the 16-17 mark considering how well the team is playing. Usual brickbats aimed at the management
  23. Just saw that. Robertson's struggling for form at the moment and will also miss games as a result of the red card. He'd be a big loss if he went back Let's make this safe lads. Here's hoping for a 4-0 thumping by full time!
  24. If Brittain is fit I’d bring him back and put Rankin-Costello in the Cantwell role. That would be the only change. I really don’t like Dolan and would like to see him dropped but manager seems to like him so he plays
