  1. Doesnt mean that the decision was correct. I mentioned before about a growing trend of data nerds overruling managers who actually know what intangibles are requires to build successful teams. Xg and the rest of it wont factor that in. I know you will say "but thats how football is now" but I am questioning whether its always a good thing. Wilder is a bell end. I dont get why you are so personally invested in Cleverley to the point where you angrily wish teams that sack him to be relegated and hope he does well at his new club rather than share the ambivalence that everyone else will have.
  2. He was nowhere near the standard, that was evident when he did play. (To all but rigger who will be expecting Dolan to be playing in the Conference next season)
  3. Im talking about from the quarters onwards. Before that, winning your group is a big factor that is in your control. A quarter final against Sweden and a semi final against Croatia. A quarter final of Ukraine, a semi final against Denmark and a final against Italy. A quarter final against Switzerland and a semi final against Holland. The exception was a quarter final against France. Overall, they are runs to the final through no control of our own that we would have absolutely taken before the draw was made. One thing I keep saying is you can be fortunate with the uncontrollables ie the fixtures but also still consider it an achievement. I said that Southgate did well and has a good tournament record, consistently beating decent/good but not great teams in knockout football is still impressive. But as soon as you mention the word luck, it seems to touch a nerve and people see it as an attempt to totally discredit anything that Southgate has done. The whole point stems from comparing different managers. Sven underachieved, Southgate didnt, but you arent comparing like for like when we had quarter finals against Brazil and Portugal x 2 under him.
  4. Merely surprised that a manager who got 92 points in 46 games has been sacked but disgusted and wishing relegation upon a team that sacked a manager who oversaw the worst second half of a season in the whole division.
  5. So we went for a player who isnt interested in a move to the Championship and bid 40% of his asking price? Yep, sounds about right.
  6. a) determined by results that we didnt control! You take the Millwall comparison that was pointed out. It was results that led to them playing lower league opposition all the way to the FA cup final. Whether the draw was pre determined is irrelevant. b) you asked me earlier if it applies both ways and I literally said that Germany in the last 16 after winning our group and also France as early as the quarters were both examples of bad luck.
  7. We do love joining a race. We dont win them when they are a race.
  8. Either way though, it was totally out of England's control. So if England get weaker opposition as a result of games in which they had no bearing on, then it is fortunate. Your problem is your seeing them as mutually exclusive. His tournament record can be good AND he could have had lots of luck in terms of fixtures, simultaneously. I have said his record was good and he still deserves credit for getting as far as he did and beating who he did beat even if most of the time he was favourite (at times considerably) to do so.
  9. Its not about whether we won or lost, but the standard of opposition relevant to the stage of the tournament. Playing France in a quarter final was bad luck. Playing Germany in the last 16 considering we presumably won the group was bad luck. All of the other knockout games I would consider to be favourable draws.
  10. Seems like Wilder is losing a battle that many managers do where it is deemed that data nerds are better positioned to build a squad over someone who has managed football teams for a number of years. Obviously a manager shouldnt select every player but obsessing over data obviously discards the important intangibles needed in building a football club. If it gets the knobhead that is Chris Wildwr out of football for a bit though then im all for it.
  11. He really is covering all bases with that story.
  12. If you are going to caveat the quarter final exit under Southgate with numerous reasons and excuses, could have gone either way, tight game, eventual finalist etc. Sven lost to Brazil who won the tournament and Portugal twice in very tight games decided on penalty with questionable refereeing decisions. Southgate's overall tournament record is good. Benefitted by considerable luck in terms of draws, but took advantage of that luck with an impressively consistent ability to overcome the lesser nations in knockout games, then came up short against stronger teams or even ones like Italy and Croatia who you wouldnt have down as the elite. Its difficult to compare tournament on tournament though. Tuchel has his work cut out because although he is a better manager, the squad is considerably weaker now.
  13. Willing and having actually offered a deal, thats a big difference. The fact that we didnt offer him a new deal a year ago, never mind now is unacceptable. Same with the others.
  14. Hes gone from a minor role straight through to an important one based on very little. Season ticket policies are piss poor and he talked a load of shit trying to justify it in that podcast he appeared on.
  15. Gestede is a novice who possibly doesnt appreciate the importance of the core of Championship proven quality we already have or the need to sprinkle some more i amidst potential signings from abroad.
  16. Hopefully Sufi got some stick from fans. A man who shouldnt be in his position and seemingly played a big part in the shocking season ticket prices, notably the hike.
  17. As you have already said, no I wont be buying it and I havent shared an opinion of it. I dont really have a strong one, looks ok to me. Which is why your angry man yells at clouds routine of slamming "unnecessary criticism" and endless thumbs down was totally unwarranted and misplaced. Most of the time, the club does deserve criticism. Here, I havent give it any.
  18. So no, you dont see a pattern, its just an unfortunate series of individual circumstances. And no, there isnt any blame on the club. And no, there isnt any blame on not getting PROPER contract offers in earlier. And even though none of these players seem willing to sign new deals. It isnt to do with us not providing satisfactory financial offers, they wouldnt have signed anyway.
  19. I think you are currently so fixated on defending literally everything our terribly run club does at the moment that youve lost all balance, I havent even given my opinion on the shirt so how could I be criticising it? The idea that I have criticised the kit and any events for season ticket holders is purely in your head.
  20. Im not basing it on whether they won or lost. Im basing it on the standard of opposition.
  21. I dont see why that makes such a difference, specific to England. England's opposition was not something they could control, so it was luck. And besides, both ways are determined by results.
