  1. I wonder if anyone still wants to tell us Nyambe and Travis are weak links/limited/won’t be missed??
  2. And Dack could slot into the role vacated by Buckley very nicely.
  3. I think there is more to it than just league position. For too long those at the club have downplayed us. We should always be a bigger draw than Barnsley, even if we were in the 3rd tier and them the second. The 2 main signings so far in this window are finally a sign of a bit of ambition From those in power. Hopefully there’s more to come. There seems a bit of a culture change stemming from our recent good run, frankly it’s long overdue. The facilities, history, and general stature of the club have all been way above the the abilities/appetite of the decision makers for far too long. As well as on the pitch and behind the scenes we are seeing the results on Ewood, there’s a buzz about the place. It’s such a stark contrast from the decade long state of malaise and stagnation.
  4. I saw this earlier… thankfully I can guarantee Mr Markanday Sr is nowhere near as big of a wanker as the other ones Dad!
  5. Markanday seems like the exact sort of deal we should be going for at this point in time. Relatively little risk, massive potential. He’s going to be out to prove himself, but we are in a position where we are not totally reliant on him hitting the ground running. Cheaper than Jimmy Corbett 20 odd years ago too. Don’t see anything but upside to this one.
  6. I think it would be good, but not essential to bring in another option up top. I don’t think we need to fundamentally alter the way we play, but the ability to mix things up again wouldn’t do any harm. Lots of people bemoan the fact we don’t get enough crosses in, particularly from Nyambe. Having a player to get on the end of them might be a start.
  7. Time to dig out the old video footage of Tugay taking the throw onto his chest and hooking it down field.
  8. Same here. But seeing as they charged me three times for the Leeds friendly back in July, they still owe me 2p! We will call it evens though Waggott.
  9. Isn’t it nice to be in a window where we aren’t all hoping that glaring holes in the starting 11 are filled? Any new signings, or players returning from injury are coming in to supplement a strong first 11, and they will have to do the business if/when they get a chance if they want to have a hope of dislodging the first choice players. Exactly as it should be. Having Dack, Dolan, Gallagher and Markanday as options off the bench should put us in a really strong position for a promotion push.
  10. Spurs fans not happy at the prospect of losing Markanday.
  11. Nah, Burnley have money to service their leveraged takeover debt after flogging wood to the Saudis.
  12. Good to hear, and agreed! Said it before, but the most important job Waggott and Mowbray have right now is explaining the current situation to Venky’s. They have to communicate the position we are in and emphasise this is their best chance of turning Rovers from a massive liability for them to an asset.
  13. By powers that be, do you mean the owners, Waggott, the manager, or all of the above? Absolutely agree with your sentiments though. We just need to enjoy the ride and hope it continues.
  14. Yeah, I expect so. Personally I wouldn’t be signing any player who took that stance.
  15. Big sister probably gives him his pocket money.
  16. He’s probably already missed one. Can’t see him playing in less than 48 hours. Get him down to the Cathedral as soon as it’s signed.
  17. I reckon Nyambe could do a good job on the right hand side of the three. Ayala and Van Hecke both look like they can only play in the middle. Fingers crossed we can keep the established back 5 together as much as possible though.
  18. There isn’t any! Anyone know what the hold up with Zeefuik is? Apparently he has been over here for a good few days but nothing announced. Why do our dealings always seem to drag, apart from a frenzied last couple of hours on deadline day?
  19. Why is Nyambe the only one considered a contract rebel, and why is he the only one whose commitment is questioned? What differentiates Nyambe from Rothwell and Lenihan? Nevermind the fact that we are again using loanees heavily, and the fact the bloody manager will be gone before these players as things stand.
  20. Oh it’s definitely still a factor. Maturation is a big buzzword. Kids scouted on the back of scoring bucketloads for junior teams having their adult height predicted and being converted to a goalkeeper because of it. Frightening really.
  21. I don’t actually disagree with this, but I think that’s more of an indictment on where the game is going. I think we will see more and more young defenders released by academy sides over the coming years for not being as technically proficient who will go on to establish themselves in the lower leagues before moving back up the pyramid. It’s already quite frequent. Another discussion for another thread on another day, but there is a real danger technical proficiency is being valued over being able to influence games.
  22. Well he needs a job more suited to his talents and experience. Him and Benson should be in each other’s roles.
  23. I’m basing mine on how horrific he was when called upon last season, as well as Saturdays debacle. In the previous games this season there were some worrying moments caused by his poor positioning. Fortunately he was very well protected by our superb first choice back 5.
  24. I’m fairly confident he’d still be better than Pears.
