I’m a bit shocked by the negativity around the performance here. This fixture was the dictionary definition of a banana skin. We have just sacked the manager a day prior. The players know it’s an absolutely massive game. The opposition have nothing to lose. All that mattered is that we navigated the game and took the points. Given our circumstances, it was never going to be easy nor pretty. But we got the job done.

Valérien Ismaël: Former Head Coach

Think the news broke about 13.09 Monday he'd been sacked. It seems really unlikely to me that he'd have time to take training Monday morning have this so called massive fall out with Gestede and then thrash out and agree terms for his departure by mutual consent inside an hour or two. I think it's likely that in this instance it really is what it said on the tin. He sounded like he knew the gig was up after Saturday's game. -

I have a sneaky feeling this is going to end up going into next season if not resolved very soon, because of the appeals process. I think they may get a decision this season with the deduction applying from August, because the EFL won't want the chaos which would emerge from the scenario you painted, where clubs wouldn't know who had been relegated on the final day. -

There'll be no 'take' from Val just like the rest. He was happy going along with it up until something gave the other day, quite possibly the hearing of other potential names being banded about i'e Tony Mowbray. He's a Frenchman and his ego might have been rattled with that so he's decided to bail before he was pushed. In future he can always say it was a disagreement over transfers and not he was sacked because his win % was one of the worst in 100 years. If we'd beaten Hull but sold RA or Totth without replacement he'd still be here lets be honest. -

He's a good footballer no doubt and iv'e been impressed with his effort at times but he lacks the physicality to be a free roaming midfielder in this league. I'd like to see his talents 'on the ball' be utilsed better. -
McNulty doesn’t play anymore. He was a decent lower level centre half in his day. The Dale fans blow a bit hot and cold with him to be honest. At the moment they’re blowing hot obviously. Previously he got a lot of grief because of his insistence of playing passing football with players who weren’t quite up to it. Now they’ve dropped down the league and have bought better players courtesy of a local billionaire they can play that way successfully. Challinor is interesting but I wonder if he’s a bit like Coleman was at Accy Stanley ? Skubala, I know nothing about.

I think I agree with you there. I don’t see Ohashi having the required vision and passing ability to play in that role. -

Exactly. I think what the reason is we think perhaps his talents on the ball could be utilised better and we should't be just relying on him every game to try and put in one killer pass. Hopefully a new coach recognises this. -

Ah to be fair Joey, I think a lot of people could see Gudjonsen had the ability to link up play early doors. He was being asked to pursue the back line relentlessly and was just running himself into the ground. Jorgensen is showing similar signs of promise for me. - Today

Ive never ever understood why everyone doesnt do that as a matter of course. At least with 2. That then requires the opposition to leave 3 back. It's a pet hate of mine leaving no-one up at corners. So negative and just guarantees you're going to give the ball straight back or at best win a throw deep in your own half but keep yourself under pressure.

Assuming Gestede takes weeks if not longer to find another manager Johnson has a big job to do and could make a difference, and Scott Wharton back and playing well (and not getting injured again) will help, but the lack of quality and Championship experience will tell in the end. I thought it looked a relegation line-up back in August and nothing has changed since. We are going down -

Doesn’t look like it. The EFL publish the lists within seven days of a window closing, whether the club will let us know sooner is anyone’s guess. -
Indeed. At best we get a Watford-esqe succession of foreign head coaches who want to get into English football and perhaps don't mind working under a structure like we are trying (and failing) to impose with recruitment handled upstairs. With such a model you get a new head coach every 12 months at best. More likely that they go for a cheaper option than that which is to give it to someone like Coleman who knows he won't get back into English football any other way than accepting what we are offering.

I don't act like anything so don't be a slapped arse because your favourite is getting some stick. If he's so effective how come we aren't seeing anything come form it ? Nobody has questioned his effort but the salient point is he's too lightweight to do what he's being asked - or more likely demands - to do. He isn't Gazza he's a twig so why are they setting the team up for him to try and play like that ? -

No. What I mean is that a new manager needs to get our players to perform better, and for Cantwell, that would mean his general play must improve, AND that he produces passes like that. A good manager with a good team can help with that. Eustace had a great management team, and we should bring in someone who knows how to build a similar structure around our team. -
Any manager currently in employment (or with designs on gainful employment in the near future) will steer well clear of this club. In the past we could trick them by promising them a hands-off approach from the owners and a decent budget. We've proven that we're trying to operate with a mid-table L1 budget this season - and that appears to be only getting worse (once they get the likes of Tronstad, Cantwell et al off the wage bill). We're searching through the dregs of the unemployed managers.

All last night confirmed to me is how nailed on for relegation we are. We struggled and lacked confidence at home against a broken Sheffield Wednesday side, playing kids who at times dominated the game. Everyone else will comfortably beat us.
